Hurray for "Soothe My Soul", "Panic Station", more Sheepdogs, "Babel" (my favorite track on Babel), NIN, "Tightrope", "I Love It", The Mowgli's, and "Thinking About You" (was one of my favorite discoveries from your 2012 countdown)! Of the ones I hadn't heard, "Until the Sun Comes" and "Red Hands" were my faves. Two for two for Walk Off the Earth tracks.

"Let Me Go" - It's my favorite single off her self-titled album, I even like Chad's vocals on it.
"Elephant" - I heard this song, but it wasn't anything special for me. That's maybe because I'm more into poppy rock songs.
"The Mother We Share" - It's new for me, I'm late in the game. It's already charting on my personal chart, I definitely like it.
"Team" - My favorite song on Pure Heroine. The production and her vocals are everything.
"A Light That Never Comes" - I was a big fan of them, but I don't feel this. Not surprising since I wasn't that big on "Burn It Down" neither. That was a grower.
"Thiskidsnotalright" - I'm ashamed that I don't even remember how it goes.
"Out Of My League" - Yeeeees! I love this. It wasn't instant, but it took only a week or so to warm up to it. I play it a lot now.
"Reflektor" - I prefer "Afterlife" to this, but it's quite good.

Hurrah for "The Mother We Share", Lorde, AWOLNATION, "Out of My League", and "Reflektor"! Heard the Tame Impala songs on radio a couple times, but only paid it so much attention; good song, though. Rah Rah joins the list of bands I've never heard of, but that's my favorite new discovery of this most recent set.

10. Haim - The Wire

With a song whose influences range from Fleetwood Mac to the Eagles, Haim knew what it took to blow me away
with their debut US single. The breakdown at the end gets me every time.


9. Bastille - Pompeii

Eh-eh-o...eh-eh-o. It's a song you're not even sure you like, until next thing you know you're obsessed
with it. Does it get any more feel-good than this?


8. The Killers - Shot at the Night

M83's production knew exactly how to make The Killers' most inspired song in years. Too bad it's been
delegated to nothing more than a footnote on a greatest hits album.


7. Lorde - Royals

Love it or hate it, it's hardly the most predictable song you've heard this year. With an attitude so
anti-pop it is pop, it's probably stuck in your head as I'm writing this.


6. Grouplove - Ways to Go

Possibly the most hit or miss band I've ever heard, but when they hit, they hit. Again, this is
another song where the production puts it over the top.

Yay for Swift, Eminem, A7X, Haim (I only finally listened to "The Wire" a few days ago and it's completely great; well summarized), Bastille, The Killers, and Lorde! I hadn't gotten around to checking out the Grouplove track before, but it's quite good upon first listen.

Aptly titled, this is the sound of a band that's perfected their formula.


4. Diamond Rings - Put Me On

After the first two singles flopped, the label made no effort whatsoever to promote this. It's a crying
shame, as Depeche Mode could've made this in the 80s without a hitch.


3. Phoenix - Entertainment

Still convinced that I'm the only person in the world who loves this, this underrated and
underplayed sophomore flop grew on me so much that it's #3.


2. Capital Cities - Safe and Sound

Although its performance on my chart was during late 2012/late 2013, its surprise success as one of the
biggest hits of the summer is what kept it on my radar and made Pop radio more bareable.


1. The Colourist - Little Games
With a song that's just now catching on with the rest of the world, it's simply as perfect as indie pop
gets. With a burnout rate that's non-existent, its inclusion in the AT&T ads simply made me want to hear
it more and remember just how good it is. With 3 of the top 5 being songs from new bands, clearly this
wasn't the year of the established artist. Thanks for reading!
