The sales difference between Timber and Monster was small this week, but Monster and Counting Stars are falling fast on iTunes compared to it now. I think it'll get it next week. Next week Timber will be selling around 280k I think, and The Monster is selling less than 75% of it now so that 10k sales difference could increase to 50-60k easily giving it to Kesha. Kesha? I believe the lead artist is Pitbull. I know this is Pulse Diva board, but sheesh! Ke$ha is a driving force behind why the song is being purchased. Regardless, there was nothing wrong with Codex's wording. It would be Ke$ha's #1. Pitbull's too, but he didn't find it necessary to include his name.

Kesha? I believe the lead artist is Pitbull. I know this is Pulse Diva board, but sheesh! Ke$ha is a driving force behind why the song is being purchased. Kesha was a driving force in 2010 honey. Her last 2 singles failed to hit platinum in the states and worldwide. The reason why this song sells is because Pitbull has been promoting it alone everywhere and because he has more fans now than 2 years ago. ;)

I am so glad Timber got held back again this week. I am sure it will get to #1, but if I could I would download The monster or any other song a million times just to keep it out!

Miley truly is the Queen of streaming. 23 weeks on top this Year. You'd be popular too if you took your clothes off for attention. I expect you're just trolling, so no need to debate this.

Chart WatchImagine Dragons' "Radioactive" this week pulls ahead of Journey's "Don't Stop Believin'" to become the best-selling rock song in digital history. "Radioactive" has sold 6,043,000 copies. Journey's 1981 warhorse has sold 5,943,000 (and more than 1 million additional copies on vinyl). The Fine Print: Five songs rank ahead of these two on Nielsen SoundScan's running list of the 200 best-selling rock songs in digital history. But I think they're closer to pop than rock. So did the Grammy screening committee which slotted them all in the pop field rather than the rock field. You decide for yourself. Here are the top five songs on Nielsen SoundScan's list of the top rock songs in digital history, with their sales tallies as of this week: "Somebody That I Used To Know" by Gotye featuring Kimbra (7,545,000), "We Are Young" by fun. featuring Janelle Monae (6,830,000), Jason Mraz's "I'm Yours" (6,743,000), Train's "Hey, Soul Sister" (6,417,000) and Coldplay's "Viva La Vida" (6,131,000). We could probably debate Coldplay, but Train? "Hey, Soul Sister" is pure pop. (That's no insult, by the way. It's a great record. But it ain't rock.) Across all genres, "Radioactive" is the 26th song to sell 6 million digital copies."Radioactive" rebounds from #31 to #25 in its 70th week on the Hot 100. The song peaked at #3. Imagine Dragons' current hit, "Demons," holds at #6 for the third straight week."The Monster" by Eminem featuring Rihanna tops the Hot 100 for the fourth week. This brings Rihanna's total of weeks at #1 to 51. Since 1955, only three other artists have had as many or more weeks on top: Elvis Presley (80), Mariah Carey (79) and The Beatles (59). Rihanna this week pulls ahead of Boyz II Men, which spent a total of 50 weeks at #1. "The Monster" leads runner-up "Timber" by Pitbull featuring Ke$ha by 6% in overall chart points. It had a 17% lead last week. "The Monster" tops the 2 million mark in digital sales this week. The smash is also #1 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs for the ninth week. "Timber" is #1 on Hot Digital Songs for the third week. It sold 442K copies this week, which constitutes the fourth largest one-week total of 2013. The top three are Katy Perry's "Roar" (557K in its first week in August), Miley Cyrus' "Wrecking Ball" (477K in its first week in September) and "Roar" again (448K in its third week in September). OneRepublic's "Counting Stars" holds at #3 for the fourth week. The song sold 408K copies this week, which is its 31st week on Hot Digital Songs. This marks the first time that a song that was that old has sold 400K or more digital copies in one week. The old record was held jointly by two songs that topped 400K when they were in their 26th weeks on Hot Digital Songs: "Just Dance" by Lady Gaga featuring Colby O'Donis (in December 2008) and Cee Lo Green's "F**k You (Forget You)" (in February 2011). Passenger's "Let Her Go" holds at #7 for the second week. The song tops 2 million in digital sales this week. One Direction's "Story Of My Life" rebounds from #10 to #9. The song tops the 1 million mark this week. Avicii’s "Wake Me Up!" drops from #8 to #10. It's #1 on Dance/Electronic Songs for a record-extending 17th week. Two songs in this week's top 10 rank in the top 10 for the entire year. Lorde's "Royals," which rebounds from #5 to #4 this week, is #5 for the year. Katy Perry's "Roar," which rebounds from #11 to #8 this week, is #6 for the year. Lorde squeezed past "Roar" and P!nk's "Just Give Me A Reason" (featuring Nate Ruess) just this week to become the year's top-selling song by a female artist. Here's a recap of this week's top 10 songs. Paul Grein also gives Elvis credit for 80 weeks at #1?
He must have been talking to Joel Whitburn. ;)

Do Presley's weeks on top of Best Sellers and the Hot 100 total 80? I haven't counted. Though I'm sure Bing Crosby accumulated a lot more weeks at No. 1 than 80 in the pre-rock era.
Four songs from Frozen on the Hot 100.

Those five songs are from the alternative genre, and alternative is technically a form of rock (hence why it is sometimes referred to as "alternative rock") so yeah...

And Radioactive made that crossover to pop as well so it's no less of a pop hit/no more of a rock hit than any of those five songs, they're all considered alternative songs. That's what I think. IMO they've went wrong in other areas such as not considering Justin Timberlake's Mirrors as an R&B song and the fact that that was the only song on the album not to be considered R&B, even though it sounds more like an R&B hit than most of the other songs on the album...perhaps they foresaw too much mainstream success for it to be considered for the R&B chart (although Blurred Lines was on the R&B songs chart...)

Trying to put songs into one genre is a ridiculous practice that I believe needs to stop. I think that's pretty evident with those songs right there. Songs like "Somebody That I Used to Know," "We Are Young," "Blurred Lines," "Thrift Shop," and "Radioactive" don't fit into just one genre. They span multiple genres because they borrow elements from many types of subgenres of music, and these subgenres themselves branch off of several main genres. However, in the grand scheme of things, all of these genres all go back to one: rock and roll. Literally every genre of popular music we have today stems from that rock and roll genre that started making an appearance in the 1940s and exploded in the 1950s. (I mean, country came from bluegrass, but even then country takes many elements from rock and roll, especially the more modern you get.) Even then, though, rock and roll would not exist if it weren't for the genres that came before it. Music is ever evolving and ever mutating. It's just not a simple, hey this song is alternative rock or this song is pop, because the fact is that most songs aren't just one genre. The biggest and most memorable hits are the ones that don't fall into one category of music.

Hence why a song like Avicii's "Wake Me Up" is played on not only Pop and Rhythmic radio, but also HAC, Alternative, AC, etc.

Whick means I'll have to wait till 2020 to see if I can get a new Number 1 song on my birthday. Or I should just be resigned to the fact it won't ever happen due to the fact that the eligible monitoring dates are just right after Christmas, precluding such chart-altering activity.

LOL at Dark Horse being platinum already. Damn Unconditionally for breaking the platinum streak of Katy. I think Unconditionally will eventually reach platinum. It's not exactly tumbling down iTunes. What's Unconditionally at right now total wise?

The sales difference between Timber and Monster was small this week, but Monster and Counting Stars are falling fast on iTunes compared to it now. I think it'll get it next week. Next week Timber will be selling around 280k I think, and The Monster is selling less than 75% of it now so that 10k sales difference could increase to 50-60k easily giving it to Kesha. Kesha? I believe the lead artist is Pitbull. I know this is Pulse Diva board, but sheesh! Ok but I believe Ke$ha is the one that sings 70% of the song so I thought it more appropriate to mention her. :)

For the whole Pitbull and Ke$ha thing Pitbull wrote the song (which to me is more work/credit then singing the song, think about it this way. A song wouldn't exict if someone didnt write it. If someone didnt sing it then you could just have someone else sing it.) and he decided to have Ke$ha sing part of the song. Maybe it's a higher percentage then pitbull, but he wrote it. Plus it ke$ha wasn't satisfied with being featured she wouldn't do it. Also these artists like Calvin Harris and Zedd they feature these artists although they dont even sing on any of the songs. (Calvin Harris does on a few, I think.) And Some artists don't even credit them (see every song on Avicii True.) IMO Pitbull feat. Ke$ha is how it should be cause Pitbull wrote the song.
@2m where did you find the list?
