It's possible. The streaming gap is lower now (300,000) . Timber could beat TM in streaming next week . TM is falling on radio and Timber is still gaining. Timber's lead should be greater since TM has 2 versions in the top 100.

As "Monster" marks four weeks atop the Hot 100, Rihanna collects her 51st career week at the summit, pushing her past Boyz II Men (50 weeks) for the third-most weeks spent at No. 1 in the chart's 55-year history. There is still a chance because Timber is still leading in sales while The Monster is decreasing (currently no.5 on iTunes) and it's Radio airplay is almost near to peak while Timber has still wide space to increase audience...and when the gap on radio becomes smaller and smaller, the chance of Timber to hit no.1 becomes larger and larger....though it must be quick cause DH is already coming for that weave....

The sales difference between Timber and Monster was small this week, but Monster and Counting Stars are falling fast on iTunes compared to it now. I think it'll get it next week. Next week Timber will be selling around 280k I think, and The Monster is selling less than 75% of it now so that 10k sales difference could increase to 50-60k easily giving it to Kesha.

Radioactive should do well. Considering it was 31 on H100 last week. It will likely move up with airplay boost. Unless there are a TON of new entries in Top 50 during the next few weeks, it should easily hit the mark. Additionally, they are slated to perform on the Grammys. Not sure if they will perform Radioactive or Demons.

Radioactive could be at 18-25 range? Then it'll fall next week and the following weeks. I'm certain that it'll make it to the 77th week (even 80th week hopefully) as long as it would continue falling 2 to 3 spots per week.

Another "blue-eyed soul" star, Robin Thicke, has the year's #1 single, "Blurred Lines." The song, which features T.I. + Pharrell, sold 6,498,000 copies. This is down from last year's champ, "Somebody That I Used To Know" by Gotye featuring Kimbra, which sold 6,801,000 during that year.

Macklemore & Ryan Lewis is the only act with two songs in the year-end top 10. "Thrift Shop" (featuring Wanz) is #2 (6,148,000 copies sold in 2013, on top of 1,118,000 copies sold in 2012. "Can't Hold Us" (featuring Ray Dalton) is #8 (4,260,000, on top of 123K sold in 2012).

Eight songs sold more than 4 million copies each in 2013, more than in any previous year. The old record was five in 2010.

The top 10 includes six collaborations, more than in any previous year. Again, the old record was five in 2010.

Imagine Dragons is the only act to appear in the top five on both the year-end albums and singles charts. Florida Georgia Line and Bruno Mars also appear in the top 10 on both charts.


Top 10 Songs

I've already told you about #1, "Blurred Lines"; #2, "Thrift Shop"; and #8, "Can't Hold Us." Here's the rest of the top 10.

Imagine Dragons' "Radioactive" is #3 (5,496,000). This has sold more copies in a calendar year than any other song by a rock act in digital history. This sold an additional 546K copies in 2012.

"Cruise" by Florida Georgia Line featuring Nelly is #4 (4,691,000). This has sold more copies in a calendar year than any other song by a country act in digital history. This sold an additional 1,636,000 copies in 2012.

Lorde's "Royals" is #5 (4,415,000). This is the year's top-selling song by a female artist. (It edges out Katy Perry's "Roar" by just 5K copies.) Lorde, 17, is the youngest artist to have a song in the year-end top 10 since Miley Cyrus, then also 17, had the #6 song of 2009, "Party In The U.S.A."

Katy Perry's "Roar" is #6 (4,410,000).This is the fourth time that Perry has had a song in the year-end top 10.

"Just Give Me A Reason" by P!nk featuring Nate Ruess is #7 (4,321,000). P!nk had the #10 hit of 2008, "So What." With fun., Ruess had two songs in the top 10 of 2012. This sold an additional 84K copies in 2012.

Bruno Mars' "When I Was Your Man" is #9 (3,928,000). This is the second time Mars has had a song in the year-end top 10. This sold an additional 195K copies in 2012.

"Stay" by Rihanna featuring Mikky Ekko is #10 (3,854,000). This is the third time Rihanna has had a song in the year-end top 10 since 2008 (when Nielsen SoundScan's songs recap originated). This sold an additional 57K copies in 2012.

Miley Cyrus is the only female artist with two songs in the year-end top 20. "We Can't Stop" is #15. "Wrecking Ball" is #16. Cyrus had two of the year-end top 20 in 2009: "Party In The U.S.A." at #6 and "The Climb" at #12. (For Cyrus, who spent much of 2013 letting the world know that she is All Grown Up, that must seem like a lifetime ago.)

As a featured artist, Pharrell Williams also has two songs in the year's top 20. In addition to the #1-ranked "Blurred Lines," he's featured on Daft Punk's "Get Lucky" (#13).

Here are other songs, not already mentioned, that rank in the year-end top 20: #11, Avicii's "Wake Me Up!"; #14, OneRepublic's "Counting Stars"; #18, Fall Out Boy's "My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark (Light 'Em Up)"; #20, Taylor Swift's "I Knew You Were Trouble."

"Counting Stars" won't be in the running for #1 next week at all. Its sales are falling and its streaming isn't passing "The Monster" or "Timber" anytime soon. Airplay wise, it should see a good increase next week, but next week is probably the last week it will see significant airplay increases. It's pretty much maxed out on pop and hot AC at this point. It could eventually get to #2 if it holds out long enough to stay above "The Monster" when it begins to fall, but unless it suddenly sees a huge random surge in digital sales or streaming or "Timber" suddenly hits a brick wall, "Counting Stars" is not heading to #1.

Airplay chart, not Hot 100, if that is what you even mean.

It's really ridiculous. I don't understand why Radio and Digital songs were cut down to 50 positions instead of just lengthening Streaming Songs.

In a perfect world, all three component charts would be top 100s and the Hot 100 wouldn't have a recurrent rule at all.

That looks good, but I do see "Story of My Life" staying in the top 10.



Now, about "Counting Stars". It's definitely looking like a strong possibility that it will hit the #1 spot for a week. "The Monster"'s airplay is going to start falling when the freeze ends, and that should allow "Counting Stars" to take over atop radio songs for a bit. And, if it still has a radio advantage over "Timber" by the time it passes "The Monster", the stars will align (pun intended) for OneRepublic to have their first #1 on the Hot 100.

Roar still has quite a lead over SOML in airplay and the difference in sales and presumably streaming is small so I think Roar will take the #10 spot and SOML will be #11, with Dark Horse at #12...haven't checked the billboard hot 100 news yet, gonna go see if it's up now

Eminem and featured artist Rihanna tally a fourth week at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 with "The Monster," which fends off Pitbull and Ke$ha's "Timber" at No. 2, also for a fourth week. With her continued reign, Rihanna moves into sole possession of the third-most total weeks at No. 1 (51) in the chart's history.

Meanwhile, Miley Cyrus re-enters the Hot 100 at No. 22 with "Adore You," the follow-up to her first No. 1, "Wrecking Ball." The new single concurrently starts atop the Streaming Songs chart following the Dec. 26 premiere of its video.

As always, let's dig deeper into the numbers behind the Hot 100's top 10.

Rihanna's 13th No. 1 and Eminem's fifth leader holds at the Hot 100's summit, posting a fourth week atop the Radio Songs airplay chart. It slips by 7% to 136 million in all-format audience impressions, according to Nielsen BDS. On Digital Songs, which it led for three weeks, "Monster" rebounds 3-2 with 433,000 downloads sold (up 124%), according to Nielsen SoundScan; all titles on the 50-position Digital Songs chart gain this week, as consumers redeemed digital gift cards after Christmas. (Total digital song sales rise by 98% from the previous week.) "Monster" falls to No. 2 after a week atop Streaming Songs (4.7 million U.S. streams, down 38%, according to BDS) and drops 1-2 after six weeks at No. 1 on the subscription services-based On-Demand Songs chart (1.6 million, down 25%).

Still, the latter title lifts 16-14 on Radio Songs (54 million, up 8%) and gains by 49% to 355,000 downloads, despite falling 1-4 on Digital Songs. On Streaming Songs, "Something" slides 6-11 (3.6 million, down 22%).

Imagine Dragons' "Demons" stays at its No. 6 Hot 100 peak, while Passenger's "Let Her Go" likewise holds at its No. 7 highpoint.

Katy Perry returns to the Hot 100's top 10 with her former two-week No. 1 "Roar" (11-8), which claims top Airplay Gainer accolades, rebounding 13-10 on Radio Songs (64 million, up 18%). The song is one of several 2013 smashes that gain in airplay, benefitting from spins on stations' year-end countdowns and retrospectives. Also resurging on Radio Songs: Robin Thicke's "Blurred Lines," featuring T.I. and Pharrell (25-18), Capital Cities' "Safe and Sound" (39-27) and Imagine Dragons' "Radioactive" (a re-entry at No. 46).

Rounding out the Hot 100's top 10, One Direction's No. 6-peaking "Story of My Life" rises 10-9 and Avicii's No. 4 hit "Wake Me Up!" tumbles 8-10. The latter track tops Dance/Electronic Songs for a record-extending 17th week.

Outside the Hot 100's top tier, Miley Cyrus soars with her new single, "Adore You," which re-enters at No. 22. (It first spent two sales-fueled weeks on the chart, at Nos. 42 and 79 in October/November, coinciding with the first two chart weeks of Billboard 200-topping parent album "Bangerz.") With its sensual video having premiered on YouTube Dec. 26 (a day after it leaked online), "Adore" rockets onto Streaming Songs at No. 1 with 7 million U.S. streams, 82% of which stem from Vevo on YouTube views. Since the chart launched the week of Jan. 26, 2013, just three other songs have started at the top: Baauer's "Harlem Shake," PSY's "Gentleman" and Lady Gaga's "Dope."



Cyrus also ranks at No. 2 on Streaming Songs with "Wrecking Ball" (6.9 million, up 8%), becoming the second act to monopolize the chart's top two. Macklemore and Ryan Lewis doubled up at Nos. 1 and 2 the weeks of May 11 and 18 with "Thrift Shop" and "Can't Hold Us," respectively. She's additionally the first artist to collect three No. 1s on Streaming Songs (passing PSY, with two). "We Can't Stop" and "Ball" share the record for the longest stays atop the chart: 11 weeks each. On the Hot 100, "Ball" drops (fittingly, this New Year's week) 9-12.

correct me if I'm wrong but I think they made a typo in the article...it said that The Monster falls to #2 on streaming songs yet it also says that Wrecking Ball is #2 on it...I guess it was supposed to be #3 for the monster

Timber is #6 on radio though and only about 20% behind Counting Stars, plus it leads in sales and streaming (hence Timber being ahead of Counting Stars on the Hot 100)...with The Monster losing airplay, sales, and streaming, Timber has a good chance at being #1 on the Hot 100 next week.
