2015's best-selling single is fewer than 1 million units away from a Diamond label.Mark Ronson’s smash “Uptown Funk (featuring Bruno Mars),” which is thus far the best-selling single of 2015, appears poised to eventually earn a diamond distinction.
As of July 24, 2015, it was within a million digital units of that mark.
The RIAA confirms that “Uptown Funk” earned a 9X platinum certification on that date. A 9X certification confirms a US unit total of at least 9 million; one unit is equal to a paid download or 100 streams.
In addition to earning the 9X platinum certification, “Funk” also received retroactive distinctions for reaching the 6x, 7x and 8x platinum thresholds.

MARK RONSON: No, we haven’t. I’ve been on the road and he’s been hard working on his record and I’m sure whatever he does it’s gonna be great. Of course it’d be great to work together but I know even if he does it by himself, I mean, he’s that talented, he’s a really great arranger, musician, producer, songwriter. Huh. He was great, but that's strange as hell given the number of stars (both young and old) the Super Bowl could use as a ratings draw.
Of course from Bruno's point of view, this is nothing but a win. He currently has no new material since 2014 other than UF, but the obvious solution is to drop an album between now and February and turn the halftime show into a 15-minute advertisement for it.

2 years ago it leaked Bruno was doing it on September 7th close to the timing of this leak. last year Katy Perry was announced on October 9th.

It's the 50th Super Bowl... They have to do something big. I wouldn't be surprised if they had more than one artist perform. I actually think we're going to see select past performers sharing the stage for a medley this year.

In his case leaks barely never turn out to be just rumors... especially when it comes from a reliable source. Last time it was LA Times that was the first publication to spread the news & no one believed it for a while. NFL was really impressed w/ his halftime and what he was doing BTS. He was fully involved in the entire process. So I could totally see them making him the one to curate the entire performance. I also think they low-key regret not waiting two more years to invite him so he could perform UF! @ SB.
