 I would be happy if it was, but I think it will join a long list of songs that I have liked that ended up as a bridesmaid and not the bride.  My guess is that "Timber" will be #1 again with "Dark Horse" as the odds on favourite to be the next #1.

I know this is a bit irrelevant, but I couldn't help but notice that on genre charts as well as the component charts (i.e. Streaming Songs), when some songs go recurrent on the Hot 100, they are kept on the genre charts and component charts but others are removed from those charts as well when they go recurrent on the Hot 100. Does anyone here know why that is or what the logic behind it is? I really want to know!

I think the benchmark is that old songs have to be below the top 10 on the genre charts (as well as reach pass the 20-25 week mark on the charts) to go recurrent.

What is a Clear Channel promo? Do labels pay these stations to play a particular single? Is it allowed?

^Specifics are not known, there's some sort of deal that Clear Channel works out with the record label. Billboard often describes it as Clear Channel promotion, and the company flexing its "considerable muscle." It made a lot of sense for something like Madonna's "Give Me All Your Luvin'," as it was leading up to the Super Bowl halftime show. So, it made it an event weekend for the track. Of course, it didn't sustain very long after that.

It's a great way to get initial exposure for a track.

One of the loopholes in the payola laws that they've taken advantage of is by announcing to listeners that the airplay is paid for by the label. That's why you'll usually hear something like "Brought to you by Interscope Records" before the song plays.

Yes; I don't remember hearing such a message for all the CC-promo tracks, though. With GMAYL, I do recall a message that had Madonna saying not to miss her performing the song at the halftime show, and maybe a mention of Interscope (forget the exact wording).
