Random Single Of The Day:
Artist: Joe Diffie Single: "A Night To Remember" Writers: Max T. Barnes, T.W Hall Album: A Night To Remember Label: Epic Nashville Producer: Don Cook, Lonnie Wilson Year Released: March 9th, 1999 Billboard Peak: #6
"A Night To Remember" was the lead single for Joe Diffie's album of the same name in March of 1999. The song would peak at #6 and set up the release of the "The Quittin' Kind" (#21), and "It's Always Somethin'" (#5). The only song to flounder was "Better Off Gone" which never charted. Joe would crack the top 40 two more times with "In Another World" (#10) in 2001, and "Tougher Than Nails" (#19) in 2004. Joe would start his career all the way in 1990 with his debut single "Home" (#1). 9 of his first 12 singles would hit the top 10 with three number one singles including his songs "Third Rock From The Sun", and "Pickup Man". Joe has also charted four separate times with his Christmas song "Leroy The Redneck Reindeer" from 1995 to 1998.
This song was co-written by songwriter and producer Max T. Barnes who has produced Real Life by Jeff Carson and even doing the soundtrack for Major League Back To The Minors movie. Some of his writing credits include "Before You Kill Us All" by Randy Travis, "How Your Love Makes Me Feel" by Diamond Rio, and "Love Me" by Collin Raye.
Another one of those songs from 1998 to 2001 that brings back memories of my childhood. Joe Diffie had many great songs and was certainly one of the best music makers in the 90's. This is my Dad's favorite Diffie song so that's why I picked it.

Random Single Of The Day:
Artist: Bomshel Single: "It Was An Absolutely Finger Lickin', Grits and Chicken, Country Music Love Song Writers: Buffy Lawson, Robert Wilson Royer, Eric Pittarelli Album: Non-Album Single Label: Curb Year Released: March 6th, 2006 Radio And Records Peak: #45 Billboard Peak: #49
This was the debut single for Curb recording duo Bomshel. They were comprised of Buffy Lawson and Kristy Osmunson. They would chart three more singles while Buffy was part of the duo with "Ain't My Day To Care" (#39), "Bomshel Stomp" (#46), and "The Power Of One" (#51). Buffy would leave in 2008 and be replaced with Kelley Shepard who would be the lead singer for their two highest charting singles "Fight Like A Girl" (#30) and "19 And Crazy" (#31). The abbreviated version of this song was simply titled "Country Music Love Song". Kristy Osmunson would go on to be in another duo American Young with Jon Stone who charted with "Love Is War" (#42).
The instrumentation in this song is what sold me on loving it. The lyrics get a bit corny in the verses but the charisma that Buffy showed along with the overall sound is why this was one of my favorites of 2006. Here was the first chart week in April when "It Was An Absolutely Finger Lickin', Grits And Chicken, Country Music, Love Song" broke into the top 50.
Week Ending: 4/7/2006
45. Ashley Monroe - Satisfied 46. Steve Holy - Brand New Girlfriend 47. Chris Cagle - Wal-Mart Parking Lot 48. Hot Apple Pie - Easy Does It 49. Bomshel - It Was An Absolutely Finger Lickin', Grits And Chicken, Country Music Love Song 50. John Corbett - Good To Go 51. Diamond Rio - God Only Cries 52. Wreckers - Leave The Pieces 53. Scotty Emerick - What's Up With That 54. Emerson Drive - A Good Man 55. Ray Scott - Gone Either Way

Random Video Of the Day:
Artist: Joe Nichols Single: "Brokenheartsville" Writers: Donny Kees, Blake Mevis, Randy Boudreaux, Clint Daniels Album: Man With A Memory Label: Universal South Video Director: Trey Fanjoy Year Released: November 4th, 2002 Radio And Records Peak: #1 Billboard Peak: #1
"Brokenheartsville" was the second single off Joe Nichols debut major label album Man With A Memory. The song was co-written by Randy Boudreaux who is known for co-writing "Alibis" by Tracey Lawrence and "Goodnight Sweetheart" by David Kersh. Another co-writer Clint Daniels had a record deal himself with Arista Nashville and later was moved to Epic Nashville. He charted with "A Fool's Progress" (#44) and "When I Grow Up" (#53) on Arista in 1998 and "The Letter (Almost Home)" (#56) on Epic in 2003 but was dropped soon after. He has co-written songs like "Roll With Me" by Montgomery Gentry, "I Can't Love You Back" by Easton Corbin, and "Cold Beer With Your Name On It" by Josh Thompson.
Joe would have two more singles off Man With A Memory with "She Only Smokes When She Drinks" (#17), and "Cool To Be A Fool" (#18). Since "Brokenheartsville", Joe has had three more #1 singles with "Tequila Makes Her Clothes Fall Off", "Gimme That Girl", and "Sunny And 75". This remains one of my favorites from Joe along with all of 2003, and is a pleasure to hear when it comes on the radio which isn't very often anymore.

Random Video Of The Day:
Artist: Pam Tillis Single: "Don't Tell Me What To Do" Writers: Harlan Howard, Max D. Barnes Album: Put Yourself In My Place Label: Arista Nashville Video Director: Gerry Wenner Year Released: 1991 Billboard Peak: #5
Pam Tillis is a 56 year old singer from Plant City, Florida, but grew up in Nashville where her father was already a well respected recording artist. She's the daughter of country music hall of fame singer Mel Tillis. Pam signed with Warner Bros. in 1981 but would not have a top 40 single and only one released album. Her highest charting single with them was "Those Memories Of You" (#55). Then she signed to Arista in 1991 and that's when her string of success started. Her first single for Arista was "Don't Tell Me What To Do" in 1991 which would be her first top 10 single, peaking at #5. It would be three singles later that Pam would score her signature hit "Maybe It Was Memphis" (#3) in 1992.
She would score ten more top 10 singles from 1992 to 1997 including "Shake The Sugar Tree" (#3), "Spilled Perfume" (#5), "Mi Vida Loco (My Crazy Life)" (#1), "All The Good Ones Are Gone" (#4), and "Land Of The Living" (#5). Her final charting single was "Please" (#22) in 2001 which was off her final album for Arista called Thunder And Roses. She has since made two more albums; one was off Epic/Lucky Dog called It's All Relative: Tillis Sings Tillis, and one off Stellarcats Records called RhineStoned.
"Maybe It Was Memphis" was obviously the song that first introduced me to Pam's music but "Don't Tell Me What To Do" still might be my favorite of hers. She certainly is one of the most overlooked artist when country fans talk about the 90's.

With the top/bottom Martina songs starting to come in, I feel obligated to put this up. This is very early Martina McBride with a song from her first album (and vocals from a surprise guest...without looking it up can you tell who???). It charted outside of the top 40, but the video caused a little buzz back in 1992. I was still very young when this came out myself, but I have memories of this song because of CMT and TNN back in the early days. edit: sabre14, love Pam Tillis! I'd put "When You Walk In the Room" and "The River and the Highway" at the top of my favorite songs from her. She certainly has become almost a "forgotten" act of the 90's if you will. 2nd edit: that's Garth Brooks on background vocals.

Random Single Of The Day:
Artist: Carolina Rain Single: "Isn't She" Writers: Philllip Douglas, Ron Harbin, Rhean Boyer Album: Weather The Storm Label: Equity Music Group Producer: Clint Black, Robert Ellis Orrall, Justin Niebank, Stephony Smith Year Released: December 11th, 2006 Mediabase Peak: #25 Billboard Peak: #26
I believe this video was posted a while ago somewhere, but I love this song and this band so much, I did it anyway. "Isn't She" released as the follow up to "Get Outta My Way" by Equity Music Group Carolina Rain. They are a trio comprised of Rhean Boyer, Jeremy Baxter, and Marvin Evatt. Each one is from a different area (Tennessee, Virginia, South Carolina). They were the first act signed to Clint Black's label in 2004. Their first single was actually "I Ain't Scared" (#41) in 2004 which did make their debut album. The next two singles were never on an album with "Louisiana Love" (Did Not Chart), and "Let's Get It On" (#52 on R&R). "Get Outta My Way" spent well over 30 weeks on the charts in 2006 and peaked at #25 on Mediabase in November. "Isn't She" peaked at the same position in May of 2007. Unfortunately "Dealin'" did not chart and was the final single from Weather The Storm.
They recorded their second album with "American Radio" being the album's lead single in the summer of 2008. It would however only reach #50 on Mediabase, and follow up "Weight Of The World" was only at radio for a few weeks before Equity closed it's doors.
This is one of my favorite country acts ever in country music. Their harmonies, songwriting, and production were spot on. The first song that I actually heard from them was their third single "Let's Get It On" in 2005. After that I went back to the first two singles and have been hooked ever since. Such a shame that they couldn't hook on with another label. My biggest complaint is that they never made anymore music after "Weight Of The World" (which is also a great song). They did turn down a major label offer in 2003 because they said that unnamed label wanted to make them more pop leaning with their music and they stayed true to who they were and said no.
Week Ending: 6/1/2007
20. Eric Church - Guys Like Me 21. Little Big Town - A Little More You 22. Luke Bryan - All My Friends Say 23. Cole Deggs and the Lonesome - I Got More 24. Random Single Of The Night:
Artist: Andy Griggs Single: "She Thinks She Needs Me" Writers: Shane Minor, Sonny LeMaire, Clay Mills Album: This I Gotta See Label: RCA Nashville Producer: Randy Scruggs Year Released: February 23rd, 2004 Billboard Peak: #5
2004 nostalgia coming straight your way. ;)
"She Thinks She Needs Me" was the lead single from Andy Griggs third and final album for RCA Nashville entitled This I Gotta See. It was co-written by Shane Minor and Clay Mills. Minor was a recording artist himself on Mercury Nashville in 1999 and charted with a top twenty single "Slave To The Habit" (#20), and "Ordinary Love" (#24). There was also "I Think You're Beautiful" (#44) in 2000. Since then he has numerous single writing credits such as "International Harvester", "Beautiful Mess", "Fall", "Brand New Girlfriend", "Playing The Part" by Jamey Johnson, "His Kind Of Money (My Kind Of Love)" by Eric Church and "Keep In Mind" by the LoCash Cowboys. Mills writing credits include "Don't Think I Don't Think About It", "I Got Nothin'", "Heaven, Heartache, And The Power Of Love", and "I Don't" by Danielle Peck.
Andy would score one more top 10 hit off the record with "If Heaven" (#5) in 2005. The title track bombed at radio, only peaking at #51 on R&R, and he left RCA Nashville. He briefly signed to Montage Music Group and charted in 2007 with "Tattoo Rose" and "What If It's Me". "Tattoo Rose" was co-written by Cole Deggs. His latest album was Naked in 2013 off Little Hannel Records.
This song brings back flashbacks of the 8th grade and that 2004 Summer for me. Such a distinctive voice and a overall underrated artist of the early 2000's.

^Did you know sabre14, that Andy Griggs peaked at #2 in 1999 with You Won't Ever Be Lonely? Keeping him from the top was Tim McGraw's Please Remember Me. The following year, he collected his biggest hit, She's More (#2 for five weeks). Holding him from the top was The Way You Love Me by Faith Hill. I wonder if he likes that couple.

Random Video Of The Day:Artist: Sara Evans Single: "Saints And Angels" Writers: Victoria Banks Album: Born To FlyLabel: RCA Nashville Video Director: Peter Zavadil Year Released: September 3rd, 2001 Billboard Peak: #16 "Saints And Angels" was the third single from Sara Evans album Born To Fly in September of 2001. The song was released a week before September 11th. The song was written entirely by Canadian singer/songwriter Victoria Banks. Banks has had three albums herself including her most recent Never Be The Same which was released via On The Ramp Records. Banks also has many writing credits including "Dance With Me" by Johnny Reid and "Come On Over" by Jessica Simpson. This would be the only single to miss the top 10 from Born To Fly. The fourth and final single "I Keep Looking" would peak at #5 in 2002. Sara would continue her success in the mid 2000's with a top 5 in "Perfect" (#2), and two #1's with "Suds In The Bucket" and "A Real Fine Place To Start" in 2004 and 2005 respectively. That success helped her finally win the Female Vocalist Of The Year award at the 2006 ACM awards. One of my favorites from Sara and one of her overlooked singles in her career. Also got to give a shout out to .indulgecountry since I did a Sara song today. ;)

Saints & Angels is a beautiful song. The video is also very well done. Its a shame it performed so much lower than the other singles from BTF.

^Other than "Backseat of A Greyhound Bus," this is my favorite Sara Evans song. I agree with .indulgecountry that it is a shame that this underperformed on the charts. This was released just a week before 9/11 so I'm not sure how that played into the performance of this song, but for some reason I thought it would've performed better.

Random Single Of The Day:
Artist: Cole Deggs and the Lonesome Single: "I Got More" Writers: Jim Collins, Rivers Rutherford Album: Cole Deggs and the Lonesome Label: Columbia Nashville Producer: Rivers Rutherford, Mark Wright Year Released: January 22nd, 2007 Mediabase Peak: #23 Billboard Peak: #25
Cole Deggs and the Lonesome were a 5 member band comprised of Cole Deggs (lead vocals), and his band members Brian Hayes, brothers David and Jimmy Wallace, and Cole's brother Shade. Cole started out as a songwriter in Nashville. He co-wrote Tracy Byrd's top 50 single from 2006 called "Cheapest Motel". He and his band for whom they named themselves "The Lonesome" signed to Columbia in late 2006 and released their debut "I Got More" early in 2007. The follow up "Girl Next Door" wasn't released till late October, which was quite a while after "I Got More" went recurrent. The song only peaked at #47. The band would be dropped soon after. Cole also co-wrote Andy Griggs' 2007 single "Tattoo Rose", as well as Gary Allan's single "It Ain't The Whiskey".
This song is one of many that brings me back to the spring and summer of 2007. Definitely gets my vote for one of the most underrated singles of that year. Here's the Mediabase chart for "I Got More's" final bulleted chart week (it had reached a peak of #23 a couple weeks earlier).

Artist: Rascal Flatts Song: These Days Album: Melt Peak: #1
"These Days" was Rascal Flatts first #1 single, and it spent 3 weeks atop the charts in 2002.
I thought it post this one because it happens to be Jay and Alison Demarcus's 10th wedding anniversary...some may remember they met on the set of filming this video :)

Random Video Of The Day:Artist: Faith Hill Single: "Mississippi Girl" Writers: John Rich, Adam Shoenfeld Album: FirefliesLabel: Warner Bros. Nashville Video Director: Wayne Isham Year Released: May 28th, 2005 Radio And Records Peak: #1 Billboard Peak: #1 "Mississippi Girl" was the comeback single and lead single from Faith Hill's Fireflies album in May of 2005. The song was written by John Rich and Adam Shoenfeld of the Muzik Mafia. The song is a auto-biographical one about Faith's home state and her rise to fame. "Mississippi Girl" debuted at #26 on R&R and took 13 weeks to hit #1. The single actually spent two unbulleted weeks at #1. Toby Keith's "As Good As I Once Was" was finishing up a six week #1 stay and Sugarland's "Something More" had been stuck at #2 with well over 14000 points for multiple weeks before Faith was able to benefit from fortunate timing (sour grapes ). Her other singles from Fireflies were "Like We Never Loved At All" with Tim McGraw (#4), "The Lucky One" (#5), "Sunshine And Summertime" (#6) and "Stealing Kisses" (#33). Faith has recently charted with "Come Home" in late 2011/early 2012, and "American Heart" in late 2012/early 2013. The only thing that bothered me with this song was the clunky lyrics in the verses. The song was sort of forced to fit Faith's career story, so it's understandable why that would be. But the chorus is strong along with the melody and of course Faith's great vocals makes it extremely easy to look past that. Here's the Radio And Records chart when Faith claimed the #1 spot away from Toby in 2005. Week Ending: 8/26/20051. Faith Hill - Mississippi Girl 2. Toby Keith - As Good As I Once Was 3. Sugarland - Something More 4. Brad Paisley - Alcohol 5. Brooks & Dunn - Play Something Country 6. Tim McGraw - Do You Want Fries With That 7. Sara Evans - A Real Fine Place To Start 8. Van Zant - Help Somebody 9. Montgomery Gentry - Something To Be Proud Of 10. Gretchen Wilson - All Jacked Up 11. Jamie O'Neal - Somebody's Hero 12. Craig Morgan - Redneck Yacht Club 13. Random Video Of The Day:
Artist: Jessica Andrews Single: "Helplessly, Hopelessly" Writers: Brett James, Troy Verges Album: Who I Am Label: DreamWorks Nashville Video Director: Steven Goldmann Year Released: May, 2001 Billboard Peak: #31
Jessica Andrews is a 30 year old singer from Huntingdon, Tennessee. She was discovered by Byron Gallimore after he heard her sing on a demo that was sent to him when she was just 15. She would sign with DreamWorks Records in 1999 and release her debut single "I Will Be There For You". The song would peak at #28 and be on her debut album Heart Shaped World. The other singles from the album would have much the same fate with "You Go First (Do You Wanna Kiss)" (#25), and "Unbreakable Heart" (#24). The final single though would only reach #53 with "I Do Now".
Then in late 2000 Jessica would release her biggest song as well as one of the biggest songs the entire year for 2001. "Who I Am" would peak at #1 for three weeks and be a big crossover hit. It reached #28 on the top 100 and #24 on the AC chart. For some reason it also hit the top 20 on the U.S Latin Pop chart. "Helplessly, "Hopelessly" would be the follow up but not be able to ride the success of "Who I Am" as it just missed the top 30. The final single was "Karma" (#47). She reached the top 40 just one more time with "There's More To Me Than You" (#17) in 2003 off her Now album. The only other single was "Good Time" (#49). Jessica would take some time off before coming back with "Marrying Kind" in early 2005 but it failed to chart and DreamWorks sent out "Summer Girl" which peaked at #48 on R&R. DreamWorks would shutter later that year her Ain't That Life album would be shelved. Her last charting single was "Everything" on Carolwood Records in late 2008.
This song was totally forgotten about by me until last night when I came across it online. Most of her singles I wasn't a huge fan of but this song was an exception. Her next single I didn't like at all ("Karma"). I remember "Who I Am" being everywhere in 2001. No matter where I went that song was playing on the radio it seemed. I did Jessica today after typing that old 2005 chart of mine and seeing "Summer Girl" on it. :)

Random Video Of The Day:
Artist: Trent Willmon Single: "Home Sweet Holiday Inn" Writers: Chris Stapleton, Jameson Clark, Trent Willmon Album: Trent Willmon Label: Columbia Nashville Video Director: Deb Haus Year Released: November, 2004 Billboard Peak: #49
"Home Sweet Holiday Inn" was the third single from Trent Willmon's debut album. The song was written by Trent with Jameson Clark and Chris Stapleton. Clark had a record deal of his own with Capitol and he charted with "Don't Play Any Love Songs" (#52) and "You Da Man" (#51) in 2001 and 2002 respectively. Stapleton is an artist currently for Mercury Nashville. His previous co-writes include "Never Wanted Nothing More", "Come Back Song", "Love's Gonna Make It Alright", and "Whiskey And You" by Tim McGraw off his Let It Go album. Trent's final single off this record was "The Good Life" (#38) in 2005. His final charting singles were in 2006 with "On Again Tonight" (#24 on R&R) and "So Am I" (#53 on Mediabase).
This is a song I always forget that Trent released it wasn't on the chart for very long and was easily his lowest peaking single from his debut album. Third one from Trent I've done actually.

Random Video Of The Day:
Artist: Darryl Worley Single: "Family Tree" Writers: Darrell Scott Album: I Miss My Friend Label: DreamWorks Nashville Video Director: Shaun Silva Year Released: October, 2002 Billboard Peak: #26
"Family Tree" was the only other single on his I Miss My Friend album other than the #1 title track. The song was written by Darrell Scott. Scott is probably best known for writing the huge #2 song "It's A Great Day To Be Alive" by Travis Tritt. He also is an artist himself and has had many studio albums throughout his career. Some of his other writing credits include "Long Time Gone" and "Heartbreak Town" by the Dixie Chicks, "Out In The Parking Lot" by Brad Paisley and "Born To Fly" by Sara Evans. This would be the final single for Darryl before "Have You Forgotten?"

Extra Video/SingleArtist: Craig Morgan Single: "Look At Us" Writers: Larry Bastian, Buddy Cannon, Craig Morgan Album: I Love ItLabel: Broken Bow Records Producer: Phil O'Donnell, Craig Morgan Year Released: 2004 Radio And Records Peak: #24 Billboard Peak: #27 This is certainly one of Craig's most forgotten singles, and one that WYRK loved to play when it was charting, but usually they are a pretty friendly Craig station given the fact they've driven "Wake Up Lovin' You" into the ground. The fact he was a former performer for one of their first Taste Of Country Summer Concerts is probably a reason. They even still play "Bonfire" every now and then. "Look At Us" was the follow up to "Every Friday Afternoon" and was followed by his mega hit "That's What I Love About Sunday".

Random Video Of The Day:
Artist: Sawyer Brown Single: "Some Girls Do" Writers: Mark Miller Album: The Dirt Road Label: Curb Video Director: Michael Salomon Year Released: March 4th, 1992 Billboard Peak: #1
"Some Girls Do" was the second and final single from their The Dirt Road album in 1992. Sawyer Brown had went a few years without a hit from 1989 to 1991 until they got a hit with the #2 peaking song "The Walk". That would start a string of 11 of 12 singles hitting the top 10 with the final being "I Don't Believe In Goodbye" (#4) in 1995. Their final top 10 was "Drive Me Wild" (#6) in 1998 and their final charting single was "They Don't Understand" (#36) in 2005, which was one of my favorites of theirs.
"Some Girls Do" was written entirely by lead singer Mark Miller. "The Walk" was also written entirely by Mark. "Some Girls Do" replaced "Neon Moon" by Brooks & Dunn at #1 and was succeeded by "Achy Breaky Heart" by Billy Ray Cyrus at #1. It also finished #10 on Billboard year end chart for 1992. This song was a popular all-time favorite for WYRK to play when I was a kid and was the first Sawyer Brown song I was exposed to.

It was Sawyer Brown's second #1 since 1985's Step That Step (I downloaded a video for that yesterday). Anyway, sabre14, you make me feel old when you say this is the first S.B. song you remember. I go all the way back to their beginning when Leona was a #16 hit for them in 1985, the single before Step That Step.
