If Heavy Bells can, I think this would.
But not on AAA.

If Heavy Bells can, I think this would. But not on AAA. I think AAA works for the song. The accordion riff is pretty AAA-friendly, and I could definitely see this song being played on college radio and the like, which AAA essentially is in a lot of cases.

Everything about this song feels like a cheap gimmick to me, but I do really enjoy it. Not surprised to see it taking off.

This is actually really catchy and it grew on me. It's meteoric rise to the top of Alt despite being relatively unknown is surprising though, but I guess I shouldn't be surprised.

This song's pretty good. Wouldn't mind seeing this at #1. I just wish they would've chosen a better band name.

I could see contemporary hit radio playing this. I don't particularly like it, but it's catchy.

The more I listen to this song the more I like it. Isn't it too heavy for AAA, though?

#1 on Alternative! 2 1 KONGOS Come With Me Now 2190 2016 174 10.618 I called this (as did many) when I first heard it. Its just got that special something that pushes it all the way. Great track. Not fully sold on the band yet.

hits had an article on this & how they were really pushing for Kongos to go number one. One of the reasons they give for the push: "So why such heightened tension? The song is obviously an unmitigated SMASH, jumping to #2 in only eight weeks. The reason, as our promotion peers are well aware, is that as long as we have a job with a weekly report card (the Mediabase Modern Rock chart), #2, #6 and #11 = FAILURE. Also, as anyone who does radio promotion knows, if a song deserves a shot at #1, you have to try to get it there." Also they were worried about the Black Keys and only had a little window to get this song to number one. "In two weeks, the #1 spot will be taken by "Fever," the first single from The Black Keys’ latest. It seems that the rest of us just try to find a window for #1 between Black Keys chart-toppers. In fact, the last time I was stressing over a new band going for #1 was The Lumineers’ "Hey Ho," which slid in just before The Black Keys’ inevitable perch at the pinnacle." www.hitsdailydouble.com/news/newsPage.cgi?news09801m01

That article is so inaccurate... First of all the Black Keys have only had 3 number ones. And that is a very loose definition of a "window in between Black Keys chart toppers", as a whole year passed in between Tighten Up and Lonely Boy hitting #1. And then another few months in between Lonely Boy and Gold On The Ceiling. Also Ho Hey didn't hit #1 anywhere near the same time as any of the Black Keys singles. The nearest one was Gold On The Ceiling a few months earlier. Unless they were talking about Little Black Subs, but that one didn't even hit #1!
Don't get me wrong, I love the band, but to say that they have dominated the charts over the last few years is incredibly misleading.

They've been talking up KONGOS since it first hit radio and they did the same thing for A Great Big World ever since they got signed. Another band, New Hollow, just followed in AGBW's footsteps jumping from indie label Black Magnetic to Epic, and HITS has followed suit with regular coverage of band and radio updates since then. I don't get it.

I think Hits just promotes what they think is the hot song or act of the moment and maybe Epic has just had a lot of luck with breaking artists lately. They've also done lots of promo for Sam Smith, Five Seconds of Summer and Rixton lately for instance and they've written stuff about that Selfie song as well.
