Billboard The 100 Greatest Award Show Performances of All Time www.billboard.com/articles/news/grammys/7677099/best-award-show-performances-of-all-time2. Madonna, "Like a Virgin" (MTV Video Music Awards, 1984) The singing is occasionally pitchy, the staging feels a bit haphazard, and the presentation is downright low-budget by modern-day standards. But if you had to pick one four-minute clip to demonstrate what an award-show performance could and should be at its best, there'd be absolutely no debate: Madonna's "Like a Virgin," in which she stepped down from a wedding cake at the very first Video Music Awards and writhed her way into the heart of the 1980s. Before Madonna, the best award-show performances could hope for was to get people to buy the record, after her, they became the historical record; the way we remember stars at their most iconic, and the way they demonstrate their immortality, no matter whose names are on the night's envelopes. It's the veritable big bang for the format as pop art.

She had two other placements on that list: "Vogue" at the VMAs (24) and "Like a Virgin"/"Hollywood" at the VMAs (74).

Isn't it serendipitous the twins are named Stelle and Estere? The former being the namesake of M's good friend and the latter the same as M's Kabbalah moniker.
--- Has anyone seen the very end of the VMA LAV performance where they show the audience clapping? The fabulous Go-Go's were shown...I wonder what they had to say about this upstart? (Belinda herself has since said how envious she was of M and how much she loves the album True Blue.) On that early occasion, did the audience know they just saw history in the making?

celebmix.com/alexandra-stan-madonna-like-a-virgin/Alexandra Stan Has Dropped A Thrace Remix Version Of Madonna’s “Like A Virgin” It has been released as Virgin Radio has just launched in Romania, hence why Alexandra Stan has covered Madonna’s “Like A Virgin” In an exclusive for Virgin Radio Romania, Alexandra Stan has covered Madonna’s iconic song “Like A Virgin”. Thrace has switched it up to make it a catchy dance track. Talk about making an old song current once again. This Romanian superstar gained international success with her song “Mr Saxobeat“. Since then she has released club hit after club hit. This is her first officially released cover version. It has been released as an EP with four different versions of the track. Her sweet vocals with the upbeat backing track brings summer rays and ocean waves. It takes you away to that sunny holiday you had, where you ended up sunbathing on a boat in the middle of the water. Remixed by Thrace, real name Cristian Tarcea; he has remixed some of the biggest songs, mainly making his name by remixing Inna’s “Heaven” and “Rendez Vous”. Listen to the Thrace Rework of Alexandra Stan’s “Like A Virgin” here: This is the first time we’ve heard new music from Alexandra Stan since she dropped her third studio album “Alesta” during March 2016. The song totally brings summery vibes, it could be the direction she has taken for her next album. She recently released “9 Lives” in collaboration with Jahmmi; it will, more than likely, be her last single to be released from “Alesta”. We can’t wait for new music from Alexandra Stan; but, while we wait, we shall be replaying this summery club version of Madonna’s “Like A Virgin”. Bring on the summer. What do you make of Alexandra Stan’s cover version of this classic Madonna song? www.idolator.com/7657477/madonna-nipples-vogue-italia-cover-steven-kleinMadonna Does It Again Madonna is still pop's bad girl and has the nipple-exposing Vogue Italia cover to prove it. Madonna won’t be fully appreciated until she’s gone. But, one day, historians will look back on the 58-year-old’s latest Vogue Italia shoot as a perfect example of her one-woman crusade against sexism and ageism in the music industry. Pop’s baddest girl exposes her breasts on one of the issue’s multiple, #unapologetic covers and writes about encouraging strong women in an explanatory Instagram post. “Good Morning World!,” she exclaimed. “So lucky to have worked on the last issue of Italian Vogue with the amazing and inspiring Franca Sozzani.” “God Bless you Franca Sozanni not only for what you did for the World of Fashion but for encouraging strong Independent Women to take risks!” The shoot was helmed by frequent collaborator Steven Klein and shot entirely on a polaroid camera. It’s dark, beautiful and unnerving. In other words, quintessentially Madonna. With any luck the queen of pop will release new music this year. Radio won’t play it and fans will complain about it not sounding like Confessions On A Dance Floor, but her very existence at this point is an important act of defiance. Click through the pics up top

Thanks for posting those, Self-B. She really was into the Breathless character in 1990, as you can hear her almost breathless in spots for those "Vogue" vocals (which I love hearing).
That "Arioso" is nice- had never heard it.

Yeah, it was established some days back that she wasn't going to appear. Probably because of the new additions to the family?

I hope the Blu-ray does a better job with the show than the Showtime special. The cuts / editing were so piss poor and cut constantly...it was impossible to enjoy a performance straight through because it kept jumping and cutting to another angle. I also think that this was a show that played better live. In my opinion, it was far less theatrical and less of a spectacle than her other shows. It was definitely looser and more about the songs and singing along. I loved it in person, but felt that it lost something on the screen. Yes, I know nothing beats being there, but most of her shows have a fantastic TV viewing experience, this one just did not pull me in. In fact, I have not watched the concert since the first time it aired..which is something unheard of for me.

^The last release that I enjoyed the production value was CT. Since then they are just too overproduced. I have refrained from watching any of the RH clips until I can savor the entire Blu-Ray from start to finish.
--- Does anyone know if the SHM-CD Japan LAV release that was talked about several years ago will actually come to fruition? I have SHM versions of several Donna Summer reissues and they are sonic wonders. You can literally hear a pin drop (if it indeed did in the studio). I think all of M's releases should get this treatment. ROL could especially benefit from this since the album sounds like it was recorded in an underwater cave. Would love to actually hear the crispness and realness of those songs.

When I was younger..much younger...and saw her shows, I had to have a tshirt. The last tshirt I bought at a Madonna show was at the Girlie Show.

I'm ready for M to drop a surprise record on iTunes. It's been 2 years since Rebel Heart was released, nearly 2.5 years since the leaks. I need new M.

The RH leaks came in December 2015, right?
If she did drop a new album, it indeed would be a surprise (not like some of these other "surprise" albums, when you know the act was working on new music), as there have been no reports of her working on anything (that I've seen).

December 2014. I am dying for her to release an album where we know nothing about it...no song titles...no leaks...no nothing. Where we get the first single...and they work it and she performs it in a few places..and then the album release comes maybe a month later. Back in the days of True Blue, Like a Prayer, Erotica, etc. it was like a carefully planned event. Even the reveal of the album title was careful reveal. Nowadays when an album is released, there have been like 3 or 4 "buzz singles" and there is no longer an element of surprise that by the time the full album comes along, I almost couldn't care less.
