We had talked awhile back about the "Rebel Heart" album being a bit overloaded and all over the place style-wise. I definitely think there are some filler songs on there that could have been left behind and that some of the tracks just don't feel like they are "her" and that she is chasing a trend. I believe she added almost every single song she recorded during the album development phase because so much had been leaked that she wanted to offer some things people had not heard.
If I were to strip the album down a bit and re-release it, I would narrow it down to the following tracks and it would feel more like a Madonna album:
Living for Love Devil Pray Ghosttown Hold Tight Joan of Arc HeartBreakCity Body Shop Inside Out Veni Vedi Vici Wash All over Me (Demo Version) Messiah Rebel Heart (Demo Version)

As RH came out March 2015, naturally I meant to write 2014. The typos. A lot's changed since those days- and not for the better, in many cases. At the least, I hope she will work work in a manner that makes leaks difficult. Lessons must be learned from the last outing- not that she's going to score a major hit, but at least make good decisions in regard to when you release something and when promotion kicks in- and avoid tie-ins to an album pre-order. Why LFL was not withheld in the USA as it was in the UK, I'll never comprehend. It did crack top 40 on the pop airplay and digital charts, but its peak sales showing was hindered. Those are good selections for a 12-track RH album, though I'd stick with the album versions of "Wash All Over Me" and "Rebel Heart."

The RH leaks came in December 2015, right? If she did drop a new album, it indeed would be a surprise (not like some of these other "surprise" albums, when you know the act was working on new music), as there have been no reports of her working on anything (that I've seen). December 2014. I am dying for her to release an album where we know nothing about it...no song titles...no leaks...no nothing. Where we get the first single...and they work it and she performs it in a few places..and then the album release comes maybe a month later. Back in the days of True Blue, Like a Prayer, Erotica, etc. it was like a carefully planned event. Even the reveal of the album title was careful reveal. Nowadays when an album is released, there have been like 3 or 4 "buzz singles" and there is no longer an element of surprise that by the time the full album comes along, I almost couldn't care less. I think that social media and Technology advancement is also to blame for the lack of surprise or excitement regarding a new album

Oh of course! It is very hard to keep things limited and controlled these days. It's just that even by those standards, her Rebel Heart rollout was an utter sh*tshow.

Oscars Top 10 Best Song performances ever: Bruce Springsteen, Madonna, Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston … www.goldderby.com/article/2017/oscars-top-10-best-song-performances-ever-bruce-springsteen-madonna-mariah-carey-whitney-houston/5. “Sooner or Later (I Always Get My Man)” from “Dick Tracy” (1990)
Performer: Madonna Madonna has never been an Oscar favorite. She was overlooked countless times in Best Song, for the likes of “Into the Groove” from “Desperately Seeking Susan” (1985) and “Crazy for You” from “Vision Quest” (1985), to “Live to Tell” from “At Close Range” (1986) and “This Used to Be My Playground” from “A League of Their Own” (1992). In 1990, however, the academy couldn’t resist nominating the legendary Stephen Sondheim‘s “Sooner or Later (I Always Get My Man)” from “Dick Tracy,” which meant having the film’s leading lady at last gracing the Oscar stage to perform an original tune. Her performance was a memorable one to say the least, as Madonna donned an appearance that was a dead-ringer for Marilyn Monroeand delivered a sultry, crowd-pleasing rendition of the Sondheim tune.

I used to love the song "Promises, Promises" by Naked Eyes when I was 13 (1983). I remember them playing the video on MTV a lot. Madonna sang backup vocals on the Jellybean remix, but it was scrapped. It finally saw the light of day in 2002. It is really not much of a backup vocal other than a short spoken word section about 3/4 of the way through.
Anyway, here is the 7" remix. There is a 12" remix that is essentially the same, just a bit longer.

A song that Madonna was considering for her "Ray of Light" album was a song she wrote with Rick Nowels called "Like a Flower." The song ultimately did not make the cut for the album. It was later given to Italian singer Laura Pausini. She recorded it in Italian and Spanish with the title "Me Abandono a Ti" (Spanish) and "Mi abbandono a te" (Italian).
Here is the Madonna version:

"Like a Flower" is one of my favorite non-released tracks. Just beautiful. But, maybe she thought it was one too many ballads.

"Like a Flower" is one of my favorite non-released tracks. Just beautiful. But, maybe she thought it was one too many ballads. Maybe. I know she had said that she wanted to "explode" a bit with the sound on "Ray of Light", so it could be "Like a Flower" was seen as too downbeat. I think "Power of Good-Bye" has a similar vibe to LAF, so maybe she chose to leave it out because of that. I personally love LAF, but I think "Power of Good-bye" is the superior track and one of my favorite M songs ever. I am super glad that LAF did see the light of day, even if by a different artist. I also feel the same about "Love Won't Wait" which was a Madonna reject, but a big hit for Gary Barlow.

^Yes- I had first posted about TPOG, but then edited. I also like M's recording of "Love Won't Wait." More Philly-tastic to my ears than Barlow's version.

"Holy Water" was better live than as a standalone track, so that could be the bonus 13th track. ;)

I think what made it a good song on the tour was the visuals and choreography. However, in my personal opinion of course, the lyrics are so cringe-worthy at times. I think she does best when her lyrics are flirtatious and not so literal / vulgar. I am no shrinking violet in the slightest, but I always find that it is far more erotic to hint at the sexual vs. just coming out and saying straight out that "yeezus loves my p*ssy best"

^Agreed- I also feel that way about the "My sugar is raw" lyric in "Candy Shop." It's like, a tad much there, M.

I think that, while the subject matter is pretty direct, she was way wore skillful and seductive with the lyrics.

She does look great, but I am waiting for her to change up her look. She has been rocking a variation of this look for years now. Blond waves, bright red liptick, something black and sheer, thigh high boots, and fishnets. I can predict exactly what she will be wearing to every single event. She is in dire need of another re-invention of her look. Back in the day, we used to see several iterations of her looks within a cycle.

She indeed does give good face.
I agree with a new look- especially wearing black. Why that one year Met Gala look was such a winner- so glam and queen-like.

does she ALWAYS have an Oscar party? Is it some sort of tradition by now? Her and Guy Oseary throw the party at his house. They still have it even if Madonna herself won't be there (like when she is on tour or working on something). The idea is for it to be an exclusive private party for the crème de la crème of Hollywood so they can have a good time without the gaze of the paparazzi. There was a hilarious article about Jenny McCarthy crashing the party with one of her friends wearing their pajamas.
