"@muumuse: . Mariah Carey's "Thirsty" is already the most important gay anthem of our time." I can't at this twitter comment, lol.

Better be the next single. It sounds like it's going to be amazing, definitely gives me "Migrate" vibes.

She's not going to release it. She wants the album to be heard all at once because it tells a story. So forget about it!

It's probably smart to let the album drop, and then push whichever song gets the strongest reaction as the single. I had to pop on to youtube to remind myself what One More Try sounds like...I could not for the life of me remember. I kept thinking of another song by the same name from that time period...I don't remember the artist. Shame on me, I owned the Faith album...on cassette no less.
It will be interesting to see where she takes the song.

Anyway, I think Michael's song is terrific, and Mariah has a lot to live up to in covering it.

LOL I'm not worried about her doing it justice in the studio...but depending what she does with it, it could be a toughie live. I'm about ready for a pleasant surprise from Mariah...

Hahahahaha! I remember when she said Rainbow told a story if you listen closely, lol. lol please the bish says every album tells a story or takes you on a journey and is the most personal, I stopped listening to her talk years ago unless it contains shade or things backed up by numbers or facts. some other things every album release will bring forth - A story about how she never sleeps or her night owl ways - a story about how she was a drop out of beauty school - a couple jokes or two about her marriage to Tommy - a couple of jokes about her attire back in the day - her numerous morsel diets and diets in general and now we have the benefit of listening to her bitching about how she carried not 1 but 2 babies and how it was a ordeal that NOBODY else can understand, forgetting she isnt the only one who had twins just shade everyone and gimme that hot music mama!

I am worried that she will whisper her way through it, and that she will include fake finger snaps. Honestly, what was her last great cover? Do we have to go back to the 90s? I liked the concept of "Bringin' On The Heartbreak," but it's held back from greatness by her lack of full voice singing.

The only cover of hers that I actually like is The Beautiful Ones.

The only cover of hers that I actually like is The Beautiful Ones. Really? Wow. Early on I thought she made great choices in cover songs; "I'll Be There," "Without You," and "I Still Believe" all had great melodies that really suited her voice. I actually like her version of "Open Arms" (it's like her "Un-Break My Heart" to me in that she elevates a sappy song with her vocal), and I do love "The Beautiful Ones" (which still remains one of her most surprising choices). Since then, though, her track record has been spotty. If we include live covers, though, she's aces. Her fusion of "Love Hangover" with "Heartbreaker" was genius. I loved her Patti tribute medley, and "With You I'm Born Again" with John Legend was aces.

The Beautiful Ones (even though it was a cover with...Dru Hill) was easily in the top 5 of the album. My favorite songs from Butterfly are: 1. Close My Eyes 2. Breakdown 3. The Beautiful Ones 4. Outside 5. Butterfly
The Roof gets honorable mention but those other songs give me chills.
Now that I am revisiting Butterfly, that album really was pivotal. The only weak link was Whenever You Call, clearly a leftover from Maudlin Mariah days.
I have every confidence in the world she will send me to heaven with One More Try. The finger snaps is distinctly a Dream thing and he is nowhere to be found on this album.

The Beautiful Ones was the first cover of hers that I actually felt she injected some emotion into a cover. Her recorded covers while she generally sounds nice on them are pretty basic paint by numbers Mariah.

YESSSSS @ Bliss making that Slate list. That song is probably my favorite off Rainblow, along with Cry-Baby. I also love It's A Wrap, which is my 3rd favorite after H.A.T.E. U and Angels Cry. Good on you, Slate!
I need more info about this album. I need more snippets. Now that the release date is finalized and so soon, I am going RABID with anticipation.
Edit: I agree with Angry Lamb. Without You was one of my favorite Mariah songs as a kid. Same for Open Arms. I still love that song. It's one of my favorites on Daydream, actually.

The Roof is a Mariah essential not just a Butterfly essential.

Being "Thirsty" for album info, I went on to the Wikipedia page for the album, and looked at the tracklist. Yes, I know, Wikipedia, not reliable...but some of the writing credits are quite promising. They are probably samples but perhaps she worked with these people - there are lots of names that when you click them they are associated with Philly soul.
Listed on "Make It Look Good": Walter Felder and Bunny Sigler
On "You Know What to Do" someone named Patrick Adams
Both of those are Dupri tracks so, probably samples, but I'd say still a good thing.
On "Meteorite", which is the QTip song, Norman Harris and Ron Tyson
On Money, this guy is on the writing credits:
Edwin L. Birdsong (born August 22, 1951)[1] is a keyboard/organ player who was known in the '70s and '80s for his experimental funk/disco music. He never achieved chart success, but developed a strong fan base, and has also been sampled by other artists many times, most famously by Daft Punk who sampled "Cola Bottle Baby" in "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger", and Gang Starr who sampled his single "Rapper Dapper Snapper" for their song "Skillz".
Reading that stuff is definitely building my anticipation!

See her voice wasnt perfect but this is the kind of real, honest, raw and energetic type of performances i want to see from Mariah, she just looks so relaxed and let it loose. Just have fun with it and go with the flow like this......... Vocally heard better from her but it was still good. The queens slayed me.

Interesting she sampled something he produced again.

apparently Mimi really went in on Track # 8 on the album!!! That happens to be a Jermaine Dupri track so if one of his songs is actually good then that's great to hear!!!! I'm hearing some amazing things regarding this album that my excitement level went from a 5 to 9 in matter of a week.
The 5 year drought is almost over girlz!

This is what Patrick Adams had to say about Mariah:
"I had to ask if there were any special people he admire or would like to work with that he hasn't already. And he says; "I would love to record Mariah Carey. Take her back singing great songs with great arrangements. She has so much to offer the world and had just begun to scratch the surface before she regressed to hip hop."

There are plenty of great songs and arrangements in hip-hop, including Mariah's catalog ("The Roof," "Crybaby," etc).
