Yeah i cringe when people discount her hip-hop influenced singles/ songs as some are the best work she put out.

Patrick better watch his mouth, using the word "regressed" with hip-hop when it comes to Mariah. If she hasn't already worked with him and she catches wind of this comment, I doubt she will, and if she has, in fact, worked with him on this project and she catches wind of that comment, he will be relegated to the Walter Afawhatever dust bin before he knew what hit em.

Based on the writing credits, the song sampled on track 8 is likely this one:

Well if I recall, didn't she say the JD tracks leaned more midtempo/uptempo.

Glad to see the Deluxe price is coming down on Amazon. Hopefully it'll come down to $13-15 at least by release day.

^ Are you kidding me? She injected so much emotion into Without You. +1 I'll Be There as well. She slayed. I'll never forget the moment I heard her sing 'I'll Be There'. And 'Without You' for that matter. It reminds me, has anyone seem that vid on YouTube of other singers trying to sing Mariah's version of I'll Be There?

Also in the climax when she just burst out with ...eeeyeah, eeeyeah, eeeyeah, eeeeeyeahhhhh, I'll be there baby. I mean, mind blowing the way she sings that. It's powerful, raw, and emotional.

Based on the writing credits, the song sampled on track 8 is likely this one: Not the original though? It's not like a sample, it's more like she made an interpolation from I'm Caught Up In A One Night Love Affair in You Don't Know What To Do. There is a featuring rapper in this song.

For someone that was a balladeer, I never understood the criticisms of her performing abilities. What was she supposed to do? She never seemed particularly stiff or uncomfortable outside of her very first performances. She quickly got into hand and arm choreography and very obviously felt the music (thinks to "Can't Let Go" on Soul Train).

Terri was the original writer of the song with Patrick Adams, however Inner Life recorded and released it. Terri released her own version the following year. Terri's version was re-released in 2001 with a remix by Junior Vasquez. The Inner Life (with vocals by Jocelyn Brown) recording is the most famous version of that song. She's sampling Inner Life and one of my favorite disco songs? YASSS, MIMI! I love that song too!

As much as I love to listen to Mariah, sometimes it makes me uncomfortable to watch her perform. She clearly enjoys being a vocalist more than a performer. It's all in her posturing and her mannerisms. Sometimes, she looks like a deer trapped in the headlights and doesn't know what to do with her body. It's all very awkward. I think a lot of that stems from her physical insecurities. The threat of unflattering angles looms so large that she spends all of her energy trying to get into the right light. That said, when she is on tour for her fans, that stuff seems to pretty much disappear. When I saw Angels Advocate tour, she was at her most comfortable and relaxed that I have ever seen her. I'm guessing it's because she has a lot more control over the things that bother her/distress her when she is on tour vs. when she is on TV and falls victim to the people out to make her look bad, LOL.

Idk. I feel like that is only true for later half career Mariah. My post referred to first half career Mariah. I, personally, didn't see those qualifies.

Oh good point. I was thinking of latter-day Mariah when I wrote that. It's weird. Even as a hardcore Mariah fan, I haven't watched much of her televised performances pre-Rainbow, which is shameful. I'm like that with a lot of artists I like though. I'd rather just see them in concert. I do remember seeing her Merry Christmas performances though and she really did seem to love performing and had such a joy about her. Emotional/mental abuse coupled with insecurities is no joke, people. Definitely not to be underestimated. *sings Side Effects*

apparently Mimi really went in on Track # 8 on the album!!! That happens to be a Jermaine Dupri track so if one of his songs is actually good then that's great to hear!!!! I'm hearing some amazing things regarding this album that my excitement level went from a 5 to 9 in matter of a week. Where are you hearing things? This is what Patrick Adams had to say about Mariah: "I had to ask if there were any special people he admire or would like to work with that he hasn't already. And he says; "I would love to record Mariah Carey. Take her back singing great songs with great arrangements. She has so much to offer the world and had just begun to scratch the surface before she regressed to hip hop." While I like the general sentiment, it's so when people disregard hip-hop like that. There are plenty of great songs and arrangements in hip-hop, including Mariah's catalog ("The Roof," "Crybaby," etc). Um The Roof is a straight up R&B joint (a rap verse on the remix doesn't make it "hip hop"). Don't mix your genres.

The Roof is a hip-hop/R&B hybrid. That Mobb Deep beat is pure, unadulterated hip-hop.

It's probably been discussed but is there going to be another single before the album is released?

Sorry not sorry but if I wanted Mariah to interpolate some cornball disco, I would dust off my Glitter soundtrack...and that Got To Be Real performance was amateurish at best. Was that during Rainblow era? She sounded drunk AF.

I don't think Mariah is going disco on us. She more often than not is clever about how she uses the samples she uses. I hope she really does have a good uptempo or two with some solid vocals. I can live with an I'll Be Lovin' You Long Time tempo.

Those runs toward the end! :o Anyway, Mariah has never had the same command of the stage as a Whitney or Beyonce, but for most of the 90s she was fairly comfortable on stage and did deliver vocally. Just look at any performance of "If It's Over," for example, including this one: Or think of when she almost ran over a backing singer during "Make It Happen" on Divas Live ;)

I just had a dream that I was with Mariah, we talked for a while, she was actually pretty down the earth, we talked about so much, even the online message boards. It was so real.
