Was just listening to The Art of Letting Go. I'd rather that have been the single over You're Mine.

But let's talk about "Betcha Gon' Know".
"It's too dangerous to be in the vicinity of where you are (SLUT!!!!)"
One of her best songs lyrically.

^ Yes! I love sassy Mimi.
I would have loved to hear her version of R. Kelly's sequel "I Checked".

Yeah, Memoirs definitely had her most consistently inspired moments probably since Butterfly. Obsessed, Betcha Gon' Know, H.A.T.E.U (particularly the remix - one of the best in her career), Candy Bling, It's A Wrap, Ribbon were all near stellar. And just when you think that it's worthless to do more baby making songs because she's had so many of them, she comes up with possibly the best in her career in The Impossible. Inseperable, despite how silly it is, still had some classic Mariah ad libs and vocal arrangements. The album had its duds (everything from Angel and down) and plain moments (Up Out of My Face, Standing O); but overall it was a really solid effort for someone who was entering the third decade of her career. Lyrically, it's up there with Butterfly as one of her most convincing.
Anyhow, what is frustrating about what's going on with Mariah right now is that there's so much R&B talent she could make use of, but she's still trying to stick to formulaic and convenient ways, even though it's quite apparent they haven't worked for some time. She needs to collaborate with people like Drake, Kanye, Pharell, Frank Ocean and others. Thank god that Miguel duet happened. She needs to relinquish some control of the song writing and ditch JD. But I think she's way too self-centered to take these steps. Idol was also a huge wasted opportunity. It was her ticket for exposure and renewed popularity but she chose to burn it.

Memoris was a good album but like other's have said, all at once it was boring. However I still find myself listening to O, Standing O ,Angle's Cry and Insepreble.

I hated Memoirs for a long time but over the last year or so I've grown to like it a lot more. There are some #pow moments on that album: Obsessed, HATEU, More Than Just Friends, Betcha Gon Know, Inseparable, Angels Cry and Up Out My Face (for the Harvard line alone). It's not one of my favorite albums from her but it's leaps and bounds better than Music Box, Emotions, Glitter and Charmbracelet.

Since 2009 I've seen slapping, biting and dragging all in the name of Memoirs. 5 years later I refuse to fight. I love it and I don't give a f**k who don't. Obsessed, Betcha Gon Know, More than Friends, Ribbon, Candy Bling, Hate U, Its a Wrap and that sensual Impossible with that Jodeci line is still my s**t and some of her best Urban work since Butterfly.
Its 2014 I won't go further than that but to say some might prefer basic pop albums made by a certain vocalist but this is not my bag so I don't expect Memoirs to be for everyone. I think I've grown to accept not everybody gonna like what I like and vice versa, whatever!

Memoirs works well as a whole and is really cohesive, but there aren't that many "star" moments on it. It's good background music.
I'd put it around the same place with E=MC2, appreciating each for different reasons, but behind her first five albums (yes, including Music Box & Emotions) and TEOM.

Dream shouts it right after that line....unless he is saying something else but I hear "slut" too. LOL too funny. I thought the shout after that line was just a way of saying "watch out, Mimi is gonna get ya"....I don't hear the word "slut!", lol. Mariah is directing the line "It's too dangerous to be in the vicinity of where you are" at the guy in the story, so shouting the word "slut" right after doesn't fit, IMO.

I liked about half of Memoirs. E=MC is definitely my favorite MC album post-Butterfly. It might be very of-the-moment, but so many of those songs were majorly catchy and live on in my recurrent iTunes play.
I'm probably in the minority here, but I also really loved 100% and Skydiving...wish we had an HQ version of the latter.

Nope. I am obsessed with Skydiving and it's the only time Mimi swears on record that isn't masked in some way. Skydiving is one of my favorite non-released Mariah songs ever. I also LOVED 100% for a while but got sick of it. As for the infamous "SLUT!" line (I can't believe this is a thing...), it's clearly a "pump the brakes" sound, like "Skeeert". Y'all need better speakers or headphones LOL.

Memoirs may have been an R&B album, but it was a bad R&B album. How much R&B music do you listen to though?

This woman drives me crazy. I hope she is driving me crazy for a good reason when this new material finally drops. Right now I am just going crazy because I am bored to death with this wait, and You're Mine is doing nothing to ease that at all.

Do I have to have a certain number of R&B albums and songs in my iTunes library to appreciate Memoirs, or for you to validate my opinion? If so, do you decide this number or can I find it on Wikipedia?

It's just such a typical response given this R&B elitist attitude you've been pushing for a while. I don't know when the idea that Memoirs the great esoteric R&B album that the GP just doesn't understand came about, but I just find it a little much. I'm sure, as fans (of Mariah and/or R&B), there's absolutely plenty to appreciate and enjoy, and I don't think my opinion of the album robs anyone of that, but as someone who does like and listen to R&B (even if it isn't as much as Pop), I just found it a total bore, marred by out-of-touch sounds and vocals that make me yearn for her earlier work.

I don't push any attitude on anyone, it is my prerogative to listen to the kind of music I want to listen to and I've never forced anyone to agree with me so that was out of line. I didn't call the album esoteric nor incomprehensible, but most fans like it and many people who listen to R&B music primarily do and prefer it to something like E=MC2 for example.

I'm refusing to believe she's shouting anything else but "slut". I like it better than "skirt", "skerrt", or "skeet". I remember a discussion about on here along time ago, "slut" was mentioned and I ran with it.
