She better hurry up and release whatever she is releasing. I believe it has been confirmed J-Lo also worked with Nas for her album. New Glitter scandal part two ;)! I think she is just going to release everything within the same week new single and album. She can't seem to maintain any momentum when she releases her songs, so why not release the new single and album the same week and maintain the buzz for more then 3 or 4 days.

If the music is good and has hit potential I think she can still crank out a few hits. Shes 43 not 50. With Mariah ANYTHING is possible IMO

ET Canada is airing their half hour-long interview with her from several weeks ago. They said they waited six hours for her, presumably because she was busy with other media outlets. So far, she has mentioned she's trying very hard to finish the album but is frustrated because nobody cares about it as much as she does, and she always feels pressured because of her previous success. They also reiterated that the release date is May 6.
ETA: "I still want to be able to do things that make me happy. Mid-tempos make me happy." "I have to deal with companies where I give my music over to them, and then they do what they want." "There is (a title selected for the album). I'm still going back and forth with, like, three titles." "(There is a song called) 'Supernatural,' it's basically like 'our love is supernatural.'" "I'm going on tour, and I cannot wait to go to Canada, and I hope you guys take a second to come out and see me."

"I have to deal with companies where I give my music over to them, and then they do what they want." Record companies' only goal is to make money. Almost 25 years into the business and she still doesn't understand the concept. If record companies are such a burden for her and it's all about art and expression, then why doesn't she release the album for free?

She'd have all the artistic freedom in the world, and we'd probably get a lot more music from her that way. ... And I think she understands the business side of it, but she shouldn't have to compromise her art for the sake of other people making money. I think she accepts the reality, but she doesn't have to agree with it.

No taking the bait for multiple comments that normally would warrant response/clarification. I guess we should not expect any physical product to come out in two weeks, unless there actually is a firm title and it just hasn't been announced.

She had her own label, right? Crave?
The group Allure was signed to it.

I believe MonarC and Crave were nothing more than vanity imprints. Even worse, Crave was a nepotistic one, given a relative (I believe) was in Allure. That was a great album, even tho I had already had most of the songs from mix tapes.

She'd be better off giving away her album for free to generate a buzz and then go on tour and make money that way than to start her own label. The music business is a dying phenomenon and starting her own label again would be a waste of her time and money.

Mariah's not a highly successful touring act though, and it's obvious she's not a big fan of it. She'd probably make the most money this year by doing something new with her Christmas music.

Just because she doesn't like greedy, predictable record companies doesn't mean she doesn't understand the concept of it. I'm sure she gets it more than you or I ever could. And she couldn't release this album for free even if she wanted to. Something called a "contract" prevents that.

Took a listen to E=MC2 today. Brought back so many memories. So many gems on that album. Sucks how poorly it was handled.

Maybe she should seek a Vegas residency.

"I have to deal with companies where I give my music over to them, and then they do what they want."
The thing is record companies want to make money as ANY industry out there, so Mariah, what's so chocking about that? And by wanting to making money, the rec. companies have to make sure that the product they're selling WILL actually sell and make profit. But it very much seems that Mariah is stuck in the year 1998 where R 'n B and Rap was actually very popular. In 2014, I'm very sorry, but the general public doesn't care for that type of music anymore, and most of her fans are also sick of it, too. Only very tiny niches of market do care about that stuff. Mariah is extremely stubborn, doesn't want to do music that actually sell and put her back on top, she keeps redoing the same old lame R 'n B mid-tempo stuff and it's obvious that the record companies might not be happy with that, because that won't make any profit... Triumphant, YM(E), hello??
I'm a Mariah fan since the very beginning, I love her, but annoys me the fact that she tries to blame the record companies, when she is the one who chooses to stick to same old, WBT formula, even the end of those type of songs are the same: long, fade-out belt.
Edit: And by "making music that actually sell", I'm not saying she should go on to the Rhianna's route or Katy Perry's, but Beautiful was proof that it was a fresh new sound and if it would had been promoted a little bit more and if she had released the album then, it would probaly would have gone #1 or at least somewhere in between the 5 first spots.

I don't know that I agree with everything that you said. I agree that her sound could use a face lift, but I think she could sell an R&B album. It just takes the right material. Beyonce is doing just fine with her R&B album. If Mariah did a straight up pop album, it would flop because she really has essentially removed herself from that market aside from a song here or there. She can do an R&B album, but she does need to throw caution to the wind and work with new view points. When people can pretty much guess the sound and vocal stylings of your songs before they are released, then yeah you are doing it a bit too much. Also, everything needs to be on point for any album to work for her.

So this is totally off-topic, but thought I would share. I am more of a casual fan of Mariah. Like if she has an album out I may or may not get it. I mainly know her songs that are the big hits. However, I was just re-visting the E=MC2 album. There are some really good songs on there. Some were singles, others were not:
-I Stay In Love (love the mixes) -I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time -I'm That Chick -Migrate
I don't really like the song that was the big single (Touch My Body). But the songs above are really good.
Anyway, there you go. heheh

And, no, she shouldn't have to compromise her art, but having deadlines doesn't inherently mean your art is being compromised. She has been working on this album for years. The label has been overly generous in releasing random songs like "Triumphant" simply because she wanted to, and they already lost money when she pushed the album back last year. Not many labels would have been this supportive, especially since she hasn't had a true hit album in nearly 10 years. Mariah clearly has a bias against labels from her Sony/Tommy days, but record labels aren't always bad. To support artists they need to make money.

Maybe she should seek a Vegas residency. I think this would work if she did a #1's set only. People crave vintage Mariah as well as some of the new. The theme of the show could play on her evolution from girl next door to untouchable diva. But honestly, I don't see Mariah doing a residency show. She's kinda lazy when it comes to touring and putting a production together.

She would have to put songs like Someday, Love Takes Time, Can't Let Go, Emotions, etc. on a set list to make that work.

Also, I think people have very unrealistic sales expectations for Mariah. She is never going to have that Daydream, Music Box, TEOM moment again because nobody is getting that even people who score smash after smash like Katy Perry and Rihanna. I think Mariah with good material can go gold-platinum(if the material is great). I am looking for gold albums from her platinum if she can manage and the material is great. Mariah would need to have everything align perfectly to ever have a shot at a multiplatinum album again. The material, her look, the videos and critical/award notoriety would all have to be there for her to have a shot at that.
