Was this always the plan though or just a cockamamie scheme when everything else fell through? Either way, I hope it's true because I would love to get ahold of this before I leave for Sydney on the 2nd. As much as I hate ephemeral files that can dissipate into Cyberspace (nu Mimi lyrics?!), I would totally illegal download this and then buy it when the physical comes out!

Why is everyone just accepting this all as truth? Didn't the UK press release supposedly say it would drop sometime next month? And didn't Mariah just say 1-2 weeks ago that she was still recording?
I don't know that I buy that press releases exists, though, as surely it would have gone public by now.
Anyway, if it is true, it's a terrible strategy. Mariah has never been a great digital seller, so she is likely going to have a very low debut if the album is digital-only at first (and considering there is no hype/promotion for it). If it's released this week, they have already missed the traditional Tuesday release so it will have a short week of sales to boot. And then when the physical CD is released a week or two later, it will obviously have a lower total because some people would have already bought it online. It just seems like a weird strategy.

It is a definite risk, but if she drops a great single and the album combo then perhaps it could work. She isn't faring well with just her singles, so maybe dropping a single and the album at the same time will give her nice talking points to help sustain interest in her for more than 3 or 4 days. If she wants it to work, then she better have some killer promo lined up for the entire week after it drops. |

Exactly. We just need the songs to be finished and mastered and mixed. Hell, in some cases, we have gotten albums that were presented in physical form and weren't cleaned up properly.

I think releasing it first digitally is smart especially if they are unsure whether a physical copy can be created by May 6th. Then, neither she nor her label would have to eat words, and everyone printing that the album is going to be delayed can eat crow. It makes her look better and those printing negative things about her look terrible.

I don't think she will get her name dragged through the mud for releasing it early digitally. Well, it beats the alternative as people are already dragging her name down saying it will be delayed, so she can stick it to those people by delivering it early on some level. |
