While YDKWTD is a catchy, throwback, feel good song (and one of her best songs in a while obviously esp. after the last several lackluster/ under performing releases) I don't think it's a strong, single/pop radio friendly material. Really like the beat (basically I'm That Chicks 1st cousin) but the melody while catchy gets too repetitive and I can see it having a fast burn out rate. On Urban and def. Urban AC this has a shot, but not pop. She's put out or had other similar 'throwback/retro' sounding songs even on her recent albums. Yes, there have been retro songs that smashed in the past year but they had a contemporary pop radio friendly sound. This is pure '70s r&b disco. Even w/ that rap it doesn't make the overall sound of the song sound contemporary. Again good song but looks like they're going to go all Beyonce when it comes to the 'official' single release(s) and possibly release numerous singles to different formats and see which one clicks and sticks w/ pop. Totally agree. I like Thirsty much more. This album still needs its Obsessed/Touch My Body moment.

I hate the fact that I have to be slayed like this once in a while to remind me why I love this woman so much.

EDIT: If she gets another #1, it would be her 19th, I believe.

"Thirsty" is Mariah's choice. "You Don't Know..." is the label's choice.

Do we think that she will "leak" the studio version today? Since we all heard the song now?

Wow, if the split rumors had any truth to them, "Thirsty" will sting really hard for Nick Cannon. Because it's exactly what he is. Ha ha

"Thirsty" is Mariah's choice. "You Don't Know..." is the label's choice. How do you think they'll come up with a decision? Focus solely on the sales they garner during the release week and/or listen to the critics?

Perhaps "Thirsty" and "You Don't Know..." will be dual singles.

They probably just wanted to see if "Thirsty" and "You Don't Know..." got drastically different reactions. The label has outright said "Thirsty" is not the radio single, but they must have put it out to test the waters and see if they should change their mind. They both seem to be getting a better response than "You're Mine" but "You Don't Know..." has been less divisive.

It is very interesting that she wants to do Thirsty and the label You Don't Know What To Do. There are pros and cons to both. Thirsty is an obvious single choice, but the problem lies in performing it live and how that translates. The reception for stations that have played Thirsty seems to be positive. You Don't Know What To Do would be a somewhat risk as a single as I am not sure radio would give it the proper treatment, and I could see it under performing. However, she seems to be able to perform it with relative ease which bodes well for future performances if it were to be a single.

She's not winning over anyone new with that one who are going to go out and buy the album based on it, and she'd risk alienating older audiences and some of her fanbase. "You Don't Know..." is less contemporary and more of a risk at radio, but at this point of her career she's not guaranteed radio hits with anything she puts out. I'd rather her take a risk with radio and put out something with broader appeal that will appeal to the adult radio formats and avoid putting out more songs like "Thirsty" that aren't going to generate any more respect for her.

Love this song. It's the label pick for the next single. Doubt it will smash at radio if Whitney's "Million Dollar Bill" and JHud's "I Can't Describe" weren't big hits. She's had that disco diva inside her from day one. The Whitney and JHud singles preceded songs like "Get Lucky" and "Happy" blowing up at radio. The retro discopop/R&B sound is definitely more in now and Wale's addition adds additional encouragement for Urban and Rhythmic stations. Plus, JHud never made lasting inroads at radio outside of Urban AC and even though Mariah falls outside of radio's target audience today, she's still in a better position with both radio and the public than Whitney was at the time of "Million Dollar Bill." I agree that Mariah's disco tendencies have always been there (albeit on the back burner). "I'm That Chick" quickly comes to mind. However, I think the real reason it won't smash at radio is because of momentum. Had "You're Mine" never been released and either "Thirsy" or especially "You Don't Know..." taken its place, there would have been a much greater likelihood of another hit at least the same size as "#Beautiful." While musically there is no likeness, Mariah's radio strategy is beginning to remind me of Enrique Iglesias. They keep throwing songs out hoping that one will stick instead of rallying behind one good song. With each passing flop, there's less interest to the point that when a could-be hit finally gets released, it's too little too late.

I just noticed Heidi Klum was in the audience and had a look of awe and amazement watching the Queen perform.

To me, YDKWTD screams multi-format, summer SMASH. Her full voice is pure ear-candy, the beat is hot, and I'm pretty sure the HQ version will have some harder elements that we're not hearing- plus, I love that you can hear the classy retro-ish instrumentation that comes in at points. This is current with what's hot at radio + Mariah at her best.
Interestingly, Dedication is supposedly the best uptempo on the album. I can't even IMAGINE how amazing that song is.

^YDKWTD, #B>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Obsessed/TMB.
Not even a competition.
Also, Thirsty, TAOLG>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Obsessed/TMB.
What you are referring to is probably the success of those songs, and we don't know what could happen, but it seems like both Mariah and the label are invested in the album and will pull out all the stops to get a hit out of at least one of these incredible songs.

Regarding the Always Be My Baby performance--I wish she would have done my absolute favorite part of that song at the end the "YOOOOU AND IIII WILL ALWAYS BEEEE, NO WAY YOU'RE NEVA GONNA SHAKE MEH!"
