Fui a Torremolinos por primera vez el año pasado y me encanto!!! Cómo se llama ese bar frente a la playa, con todos los gays? Uff quiero volver!! What a small world! Let's see... Edens? Or maybe El Gato? Eden's is right on the beach. El Gato is the one across the street, in the cliff side. Where did you stay? In la nogalera? Eden!! Eso es. Yeah I stayed in la nogalera, and obv went to Centurion every night I was there. Epic!!

Not surprised in the least either. W/out ever needing to be a fly on the wall during the IDJ executive meetings lol, Mimi def. wants all the focus to be on Thirsty. While I objectively think YDK is a good song and has more hit potential, it's truly not 'her kinda sound/thing' anymore. While she def. had input on the song it's prob. not on the upper tier of her personal favorites on the album due to giving her instant, awful memories of the early years of Sony/ Tommy Motolla :/. My gut tells me she def. would've preferred to sing Thirsty on the Today show but caved due to IDJ. The overall sound/vibe of that song easily could've been from one her albums during the period when she was most unhappy due to the crazed controlling Motolla

Honestly, I think she needs to win back support from urban radio. Overall, I think urban markets have shown a positive embrace of "Thirsty" while I think the overall Mariah fan base is divided over the song. I think if pushed she can get an instant urban hit with "Thirsty" which would pave the way for a follow up like YDKWTD to smash on all formats or another song for that matter. Not, that I don't think she can get a hit with YDKWTD, I just don't know that it would click with Urban as readily as she would need it to click, but it might click faster following another urban hit from her. She does need a solid radio hit though as no matter whether the material is great or not people don't seem to embrace her unless she can claim a hit to her name. I don't think this album is as accessible to the CHR format as some of her fans might be thinking it may be. I am hearing things like slow 90'sesque R&B jam for Supernatural, so it might be wise for her to probably focus on the Urban market with singles and get urban smashes that might just cross over onto the CHR format, but if they don't then she can throw something like a YDKWTD at CHR which is reminiscent of some of her past songs.

Why should she be catering to urban radio? Why one specific genre? It's not like her future in music (as an aging pop artist) is urban radio.. so, I don't see why she needs to be doing them any favors. She needs genre-bending songs, not ones that cater to only one format. I don't mind Thirsty; but, I have some mariah fans in my life who've specifically said they "hate" it. It just concerns me when even fans aren't somewhat feeling the song.

That's probably for the best.
It'll be like twins in the womb.... One will overcome and eat the other eventually. #ThirstyWillLoseThisWarButRadioPlayIsRadioPlaySoLetsBeThankfulForAllWeCanGet

For best case scenario, I say they should go with You Don't Know What To Do for Pop/Hot AC/Urban AC while Thirsty gets Urban. Rhythmic will play them both at the same time, i.e. Stay & Pour It Up.
I also think sometimes when Thirsty is done at urban, considering if Thirsty has a strong run You Don't Know What To Do would probably crossover and do its business there as well.

I wasn't aware that twins cannot co-exist in the womb. So glad #DEMBABIES made it out alive. Not only is Mariah the only woman to be pregnant with twins, she apparently is the only woman with a full set of surviving twins! Legend.
In other news, I kept trying to get these wack DJs in the Gold Coast to play Thirsty in the clubs to no avail.

Looks like we may have a single off where they might be sending Thirsty and YDKWTD out there and letting them fight to the death to see who wins.

In one way or another, this is what is happening. But I actually think that can only benefit the album. The more non and casual fans that you can convince that her new album is the business, the better.

Putting out both "Thirsty" and "YDKWTD" would be a good thing- "Thirsty" would work well on Urban radio, and "YDKWTD" would be good to send to Pop. Or, if one gets a much better response, then that song would be fully backed as the single.
Edit: Oh, it looks like they picked "YDKWTD." Good choice, as almost everyone, fans and non-fans, have responded well to it. Other than "We Belong Together" and "#Beautiful," none of Mariah's singles have gotten that kind of response since 2000 or so.

^True. If just one track is promoted and it doesn't do much (coming off of "You're Mine"), there will be little to no chance for the next single, whatever it is. This way, maybe one of the tracks will click and perform decently at a format (or two)- or maybe both will (top 20 at a format would be a decent showing). And then maybe the next release won't be as DOA as it would have been, otherwise.
On the flip side, it's possible that neither will do a heckuva lot of anything, but may as well give it the ol' college try.

If she can't get a minor hit out of at least one of "YDKWTD" or "Thirsty," then I'm not sure what else she could release that could be a hit. "YDKWTD" seems to be giving fans of Mariah in the 90s and 00s a sound they want to hear, so that may have more potential to be a hit than "Thirsty."

Mariah's winging it this time which is different for her. I'm proud she's at least recording great songs this album #Beautiful, Thirsty, YDKWTD". Those 3 songs along are promising and should help album sales. Her team is clearly focused on strong album sales this time

I agree that it could smash on pop, but why don't people think YDKWTD would be well on urban? Or is it just that they think Thirsty would do better?
I think Wale's rap is actually HOT (and I don't always love rap) and it fits in perfectly with the song. Does this not make it suitable for urban radio?

I honestly think YDKWTD would do just fine on Urban as well.
The dual strategy irks me, but I get why they do it. It really just doesn't make sense to me in this case though since, YDKWTD could easily cater to all of her core formats. It's like wasting a potential single that could easily be released following the single that's chosen.
