I think they're just doing it because Thirsty is definitely more instant for Urban, I believe. They have not been playing Mariah as of late so they need something to make them play her again for this era and Thirsty might just be it. You Don't Know What To Do can definitely get played at Urban as it has that multi-format appeal but it's probably less instant as Thirsty for the Urban audience.
But I agree, they're wasting a potential BIG single. I wish Def Jam would release one single (You Don't Know What To Do) for ALL formats but I'm just happy they're still releasing singles for this album after the recent lackluster success at the radios.
On an unrelated note, the World Music Awards will air on NBC on May 28th at 8pm! Here's to hoping Mariah has one HOT performance to gain more sales! Preferably You Don't Know What To Do after seeing that fabulous Today Show performance. Thirsty will NOT translate well live.

I would be OVER THE MOON if this era produced:
USA: #1 Album, sales of 2 million, one #1 single Canada: #1 Album, sales of 100,000, one #1 single UK: #1 Album, sales of 100,00, one #1 single Japan: #1 Album, sales of 100,000 Australia: #1 Album, sales of 100,000 Brazil: sales of 50,000
To me that would give MIAMEC a "TEOM" like era.

How does this woman tease us all for weeks, keeping so quiet doing exactly what I knew she was doing, preparing her an amazing album thats gonna throw her forefront of the scene. While all the lessers declared her down and out and a flop, and now what :giggles: she had me quenched for a sip of anything, so damn thirst....then whats she do? She quenched that horrendous thirst with Thirsty, it was like I'd been lost in the desert for days with no water than Mariah came with a whole gallon to quench my thirst and save me. Then she took it five steps farther and performs You Dont Know What To Do, the perfect jam with the potential to be her largest hit since We Belong Together. So I was so team Thirsty until I heard this masterpiece. Now this has to be pushed to pop asap. My only concern is Wale, what success has he had on pop? I know he threw a track out with Gaga, dont think it did anything. Mariah Carey served us all to floor this week, so haters try and go running or something to calm yourself down cause this woman is about to takeover the summer, sorry for your faves.

I think the news of the label sending like 6 songs to radios for feedback is a brilliant idea. If the material is really good, this will encourage radios to play whatever she releases because there are lots of potential hits kind of like what happened with It's Like That

I am going to be honest. While YDKWTD is the better song, I can actually remember "Thirsty" and sing along to it without hearing the music. I have to replay YDKWTD to remember how it goes.

Well keep in mind, you have yet to hear the studio version... Meanwhile, what is this primetime special I've been hearing about?

Meanwhile, what is this primetime special I've been hearing about? May 31 at 8PM EST on NBC. She's being interviewed by Matt Lauer. No other details yet. She's also being honored by the Fresh Air Fund on May 29.

The song has great lyrics, she sounds amazing singing it(imagine the recorded version), and it's very catchy. Also, the song has a throwback feel yet it feels current and fresh. MC has done it again folks, this album is going to be something special. Right now all I want for her is to open at #1 on the albums chart. That will be an amazing start.

There wasn't a thread for "Can't Take That Away" (that I could find), but the Morales Revival Triumphant Mix ranked #5 on Slant's Top 10 Greatest Mariah Carey Remixes.
Thrilled to see that mix get some recognition, because it's one of my favorite remixes by her ever (and I don't like the album version). Also one of the last dance mixes she's done that I really loved. Her post-Sony dance mixes have been really basic and boring for the most part. It's easy for someone to overlook what a force she was with her house mixes in the 90s.

The release schedule for next week is pretty light, so the chance of a No. 1 on the albums chart is pretty good. I'd be surprised if the Austin Mahone or EDIT: Cher Lloyd (not Cheryl Cole lol) albums sold that impressively.
In this climate, if the album can scan 1m when all is said and done, that would be a great feat. But, realistically, 500K-750K would be decent.

I enjoyed the Slant list because it underlined one of the best aspects about her artistry, though I was pressed about the omission of 'TGIFY/Make It Last' and some of the rankings.

Mariah pretty much only attends award shows if she's performing.

^He's relatively new, let's not pick on him. There haven't been any reports of Mimi shooting a video or anything, so I guess we shouldn't expect one for at least two-three weeks, at the earliest.

My rankings:
1. "#Beautiful" 2. "You Don't Know What To Do" (HQ album version could move to #1) ... 3. "Thirsty" ... 4. "You're Mine" 5. "The Art of Letting Go" (I love the instrumental and lyrics, but needs a melody)

The art of letting go is a master piece . It stands on its own , not commercially successful but musically it's a gift for us

She's not been confirmed for tonight's billboard awards wtf??? Where is Mimi??? I wish she would attend more award shows and do more red carpets but lately and even during the height of career she would rarely attend award shows. But I think it would help her. I mean it couldn't hurt.

Mariah still had quite a few great dance remixes in the 00s.
The Jumpsmokers H.A.T.E.U remixes obviously and I love some of the Obsessed remixes.

Just gotta re express how much I love THIRSTY. I had previously posted I wish Mariah' make a song in the veign of TIP TOE by Tamar, and even though they don't sound alike, they've got that same energy. The melody during "you thirsty for a dream, leaving me drowning" is so addictive!!!
They really need to push this at radio.
