There wasn't a thread for "Can't Take That Away" (that I could find), but the Morales Revival Triumphant Mix ranked #5 on Slant's Top 10 Greatest Mariah Carey Remixes. Thrilled to see that mix get some recognition, because it's one of my favorite remixes by her ever (and I don't like the album version). Also one of the last dance mixes she's done that I really loved. Her post-Sony dance mixes have been really basic and boring for the most part. It's easy for someone to overlook what a force she was with her house mixes in the 90s. Damn. I was just jamming to this today. Love the adlibs! Such an uplifting mix. *starts singing "No negative energy...No negative energy...I'm not gonna let, you get the best of meeee". YASSS! I would not mind a reunion of her Dave for a nice lil' Def Mix of "You Don't Know...".

It's pretty crazy that we'll be able to hear the album in just a few days. Who's gonna stick with me and wait till release day?!

I am going to be honest. While YDKWTD is the better song, I can actually remember "Thirsty" and sing along to it without hearing the music. I have to replay YDKWTD to remember how it goes. OK, now I am a bit concerned. It's like I have disassociative identity disorder and you are one of my personalities. :o Arrrgh...get outta my head!! Since I don't like house music (or dance music for that matter, unless filtered through a lowest common denominator pop lens), I have pretty much missed out on the majority of these great Mariah remixes that people rave about. Time to do some serious homework when I get home. Thanks for bringing this back to my attention. I read the article and was very intrigued but forgot to look up the song. I will say I loved the Say Something dance remix much better than the original (which I like) and the Heartbreaker/If You Should Ever Be Lonely remix but that's it, as far as her dance remixes, up til now. I would listen to that remix now but I can't open it on my work computer.

I mean I like YDKWTD, but it just isn't as instant as Thirsty. YDKWTD is the better written of the two and the better vocally of the two. The difference is that she sings Thirsty in a catchy manner and the lyrics are fun and catchy. I know it isn't the song Mariah probably should be delivering at this point in her career. I mean at this point I don't see what the problem is just really trying to hit urban hard with Thirsty. She needs a hit, and trying for a top 5-10 R&B hit would bode well if she can get it for a future release. I mean at its best I can see YDKWTD having a similar arch like #Beautiful under performing at both CHR and Urban. However if she can get a top 5-10 at urban with Thirsty and then release YDKWTD or something else then that bodes better for her especially if this album isn't super CHR friendly which it isn't looking that way to me so far. I am pretty sure when she drops the album we are all going to give a giant WTF anyway because there will probably be a better more obvious single choice than either of those two songs.

While on the topic of dance remixes, her "Say Somethin'" remix SLAYS and rips every other dance diva to shreds. Her 90's remixes are #pow, but this is her absolute best in my opinion. It would be top 10 Mimi songs if I actually had a list.

So it's simply being played tomorrow but not an actual 1st single official premiere (as of now)? Sounds like they're basically doing what they did with Thirsty last week. Even if there was abrupt decision tomorrow to make it the sole first single, it'll only have a week or so to generate buzz before the album drops. Can't remember anytime that's happened w/ another album. W/ the positive feedback the song has gotten makes zero sense they didn't have this out at least 2 weeks ago w/ a decent enough video but more importantly just have the song out.

With each release that I have really enjoyed from this album, I'm just grateful as a Mariah fan to be getting a varied body of work with, in my opinion, some of her best latter day output. It's all I can ask for, really. Record sales, radio performances, live performancs, etc. are just icing on the cake. Homegirl is DELIVERING that product.

Twenty five years later and when a bitch gets tired of laying in the sun with her half a billion she can still SERVE EVICTION NOTICES to your favs with not one but two #POW records! While "Thirsty" is that bop you play while you admire your ass in the mirror before hitting up the gay clubs, 'You Don't Know What To Do" is that motherfucking classic sounding song that just reminds you in 2014 why music was so GREAT back in the day, are you old enough to remember? So many influences and genres mixed so effortlessly in one record its fucking perfect. Can't wait for the studio quality. I have been reading the on going debate regarding which single to send to radio you can send both but Mariah aint about singles she is about selling records and her classics are vehicles that can transcend all genres in my mind the real single here 'YDKWTD". All week this bitch had me :'(

Yes, the QUEEN HAS RETURNED. I will only say that Thirsty is hot for ALL crowds and clubs, not just gay ones but...no matter. You are still flawless. Welcome home where you belong. I knew you would love these new jams. We have #B, Thirsty, You're Mine, and YDK all on one album...plus 10 classics we have not even heard yet!! Can. You. Take?!

YASSS all clubs but I'd like to have Mimi to myself so hence the gay club term but when the straight crowd dress better then they can apply to have Mimi played at their club.

Can I say while I understand Ariana getting compared to Mariah at the same time I don't get it. Ariana has a great voice, but she has to reach for those notes and even when she hits those notes paper is far thicker than those notes. Her voice is like a hybrid of a Mariah/J.Lo combo.

But...you haven't seen my fly alphits though. :'( LOL. I love you. As for Ariana, I love the girl but even I mistakenly bought into that Mini-Mariah nonsense early on. Her love of the 90s and mixing hip-hop and pop is very Mariah and the fact that she can hit whistle notes is also Mariah but I don't even find the tone of their voices to be that similar. It reminds me of how everyone was so quick to brand Leona the next Mariah, when she sounds completely different, tonally. I was listening to I Got You by Leona the other day and thought she sounds NOTHING like Mariah. Also, she has these weird vocal quirks that Mariah does not have. It's no wonder Mariah always shrugs off these comparisons.

I was like no matter who comes along after Mariah they will never have her butter rich tone. You can say what you want to about Mariah, but her tone is unparalleled. Ariana actually has worse enunciation issues than Mariah.

Yeah, I have ragged on Mariah for her wonky enunciation but it's only usually noticeable when the production around her is too busy (i.e. the dark climax of Thirsty). She literally could be quoting Chaucer at the end of that song, for all I know.

Can't wait a few hours until we get a studio quality of "YDKWTD" by the real billboard icon.

I think I prefer the live version of YDKWTD. I think the studio version really accentuates the disco aspects of the song more than I care for, but her voice on that track though are the best vocals released so far from this album.

Oddly enough, for me, though I also prefer the live version, it's because I thought the live version was MORE disco-ish. (no backup singers in the studio version :( ) It's still a 10. (Wale raps something like "I'll show you what a ten is, like Sampras..." clever) Sounds like the "You don't KNOW what you're doin' to me" part at the ends continues to a fade-out rather than ending too soon like the live version.
