It would've been nice to have gotten a few more weeks at #1 this season, but this should take the pressure off her at least. I hope she takes it as a sign that she can feel free to release non-Christmas related music as well. It looks like a lot of her non-Christmas hits are getting boosts on Spotify, which is great to see.

Is this real?! As a pretty hard core Lamb and DC/Bey fan since the 90s, I have NEVER seen this. I mean considering they were both on Columbia it kinda makes sense but also looks a hot mess. LOL Same here! Lol I love both so I was surprised I have never seen this before. It’s a Japan only Sony promo so that explains it, but I found it fascinating to see lol definitely a mess.

I posted in another thread that Apple Music has MC deluxe album AIWFCIY track as that super festive version that doesn't count towards the streaming numbers (but they have it named the original version). Is that the same over at Spotify?
Definitely contributes to the streaming gap between her and Brenda last week.
Can someone else confirm that I'm not just losing my mind? haha

There may be some playlists where the duet version is used, which would make sense if it's a Universal-controlled playlist since that's their version of the song. Still #1 worldwide on Spotify:

It's not the duet, but rather the later version from MC2Y album that they removed from streaming. Which is why I found it bizarre that it ended up here. I still went back and it's the newer version that plays on the album when streamed.

I am pretty bummed tbh, not that we lost out on a week, but that it's likely going to be the whole holiday season. I'm all for sharing the wealth and mixing things up, but I also was really looking forward to Mariah's reclaiming her perch as longest running number one eventually.... Things can change, so hopefully we'll see her back up again, if not this year then next.

Yeah it's a bummer in that things were really well set up for Mariah to reclaim the longest-running #1 of all-time next year on the 30th anniversary of "AIWFCIY." That clearly isn't going to happen now. This was always the danger of 'Let Brenda have a week at #1' as now "RATCT" has all of the momentum. It will now also be tougher for "AIWFCIY" to claim Song of the Decade and give Mariah her third one of those. At the same time, it is what it is and more so we are so fortunate "AIWFCIY" has done what it's done as for most of the lifetime of "AIWFCIY" we didn't think any of this would happen. In 2005 we would have taken a top 10 peak.

I always think back to that week in 2005 when AIWFCIY was the No. 1 digital seller of the week and it wasn't allowed to chart. Now we've gotten 12 weeks at No. 1. All in all, not bad!

She's sounding so good. In particular the hits section seems to be a hit. Maybe "AIWFCIY" dropping from #1 in the U.S. will allow her to put more focus on her catalog of enduring hits, as well as new music.

She's still lip-syncing a fair amount but I did think she sounded good when singing live in Toronto.

Do you think she would ever consider having her nodules removed, or will she just live with them for the rest of her life? I have to admit I am curious what she would sound like if she had the surgery.

I don't think the problem can be blamed strictly on her nodules. She's had periods where her voice was clearly getting better. The voice is a a muscle and you need to use it to keep it strong. She clearly favours writing-recording over performing which is her prerogative but she could certainly sound better live if she wanted to. She seems fine with lip-syncing, most fans seem to be or pretend it's not happening and that is it.

If she's going to lip-sync, then I at least want her to move around more on stage. More often than not, she stands in one spot because of her outfits.

Yeah her voice is clearly delicate, but can still be stellar. Additionally I think she worries if she has the nodules removed, she'll lose her whistle register since that's sort of her trademark. As a fan I'd prefer a more consistent vocal state than whistle notes, but that's me. Of course, Julie Andrews had her nodules removed and now can't sing at all so there's that risk as well. I also think her nerves are a lot of it, too. Obviously the more nervous someone is, the tighter their muscles get. That will of course affect your vocal muscles. I assume increased nerves are also why she seems so glued to the stage as schnetzka references. It's sort of wild how much more relaxed she was on state in the 1990s, even though she had less experience then. Of course, Barbra Streisand's stage fright increased as she got older as well. Meanwhile, Mariah stays classy AF:

Mariah is classier than all of us combined. Given how shady Ol' Miss Brenda has been, Mariah could (and honestly, should) have paid her dust, but...The Queen of Christmas is benevolent and kind.

I feel like Mariah's voice is like an aging athlete ... you have good days and you have days when it's just not there. I work in sports for a living and I've never understood why we expect so much from singers as they age. The voice is a physical thing. Yes, there are people that can sound great as they age, but voices change, and some may deteriorate worse than others. It's natural!
I'll NEVER understand the flack Mariah gets for not being able to sing now the way she did in the early 90s. Do we ask Michael Jordan to play basketball the same way now that he did in the 90s? No. That'd be ridiculous. But what she gave us at her peak was an unparalleled body of work that'll live on forever. As she ages, nobody should expect that from her. And she's proven she can still make great music with her voice as it is now. "Caution" is in the upper tier of MC albums for me, because I thought she used her voice well and sang material well suited for it.

Her song’s good, too. I love her singing.” I’m over the whole Brenda thing. I’m happy to see Mariah send her congrats, super classy. I do wish people would talk about MC more respectfully…in general. But it is what it is.

Ugh. I can't get over just how good "#Beautiful" was/is (though I could do without the corny hashtag). What an absolute classic Mariah song. It has everything going for it and should have been another #1 for her. EVERYTHING from the single to her look during AI and that whole period was absolutely stellar.

I just got home from the Cleveland she and I LIVED!!!!! Hearing her voice live is a magical experience that is just not the same as listening to her records or watching recordings of her. Being in the room while she uses her amazing gift nearly brought tears to my eyes several times. She looked snatched AF, wasn't too stiff, and sounded fantastic once she got past the first act. Her stage banter was funny too. And I was floored and GOT MY LIFE when she played A No No during the hits medley! I started dancing and singing with hand motions and revitalized energy. All and the people around me were like "Get it boy!" The arena was quite full too, so I can't wait to see the boxscore numbers. EDIT: Oh and I posted in the Pulse Discord - Mariah had her sound people play "Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree" as one of the last songs before the show actually began so she stays classier than some of her fans.

Rocking Around The Christmas Tree was EASILY my favorite Christmas song before AIWFCIY, so I am actually happy for Brenda. I just think that she shouldn't have fed into the shadiness at all, but at least she has this accolade to her name now.

They must have changed up some things depending on venues or evolutions on the tour, because not everything in that video is what I saw. It doesn't properly show the video screens while Roc & Roe and their little band are performing "Christmas Wrapping", that's a special treat.

New RIAA certs: Merry Christmas - 9x platinum “AIWFCIY “ - 14x platinum “O Holy Night” - 1x platinum “Hark! the Herald Angels Sing” - 1x platinum
That makes 4 platinum songs from Merry Christmas. “SCICTT” has to be close too. Maybe Merry Christmas and the debut can be certified Diamond at the same time. That would be iconic. Surely Mariah has the highest certified holiday album by a woman. What does she have to get to to have the highest by any artist? These are ones I know of:
Elvis' Christmas Album (Elvis Presley) - 10x platinum Merry Christmas - 9x platinum Miracles (Kenny G) - 8x platinum Christmas (Michael Buble) - 6x platinum (should be 7x platinum, could eventually pass Mariah) The Christmas Song (Nat King Cole) - 6x platinum Noel (Josh Groban) - 6x platinum These Are Special Times (Celine Dion) - 6x platinum A Christmas Album (Barba Streisand) - 5x platinum A Charlie Brown Christmas - 5x platinum
