Hi, I guess this is my first post. For some reason a lot of British/Euro bands don't like Mariah (Coldplay, Aqua and now Oasis). They can't stand a woman singlehandedly trampling their existence. I know this probably stemmed a lot from her being known as a diva, but frankly they are just so gullible. I'm glad Mariah has the longevity that none of them have, and she has AIWFCIY which lords over the continent every year. They wanted Mariah to eff off like 2-3 decades ago... Too bad she'll probably outlast them all.

He says he loves Mariah, so there's that! His issue is he's stupid and thinks only rock and roll artists should be in the rock and roll hall of fame. Like how does this same dumb argument keep popping up year after year? They really need to rename that place the music hall of fame or something.

Yeah it seemed to be more about her style of music than him not liking her. And yeah, these white men really need to get over their [racist] notion that "rock & roll" is just white guitar rock. It's also definitely not just him; there are a lot of people on social media griping about the non-rock acts. It's no wonder Ozzy, Foreigner, and the other white male acts are leading the fan poll. That's all despite acts like Janet Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Gladys Knight, The Spinners, Whitney Houston, etc already being in the Hall of Fame.

I also posted about my frustration with this issue here last year, and in particular I dislike when people say "Rock Hall" because the "Roll" part of "Rock & Roll" is what makes it obvious that R&B, gospel, etc are part of the basis of "Rock & Roll."

It’s so weird because not even a couple weeks ago Liam tweeted: Not as much as Mariah she smashed it. Talk about bizarre. I’m hoping no matter what happens Mariah releases new music that has people gagged. There are quite a few people in the industry that need to choke on their words about her. I hope she gets in this year to make a few people angry.

Interesting, I don’t think she has been on Kelly’s show yet for any type of promotion. I wonder if she will make it on eventually. I’m surprised she hasn’t. It sounds like the Mariah’s favorite type of promo where the host does all of the talking.

If she was already ahead of Mariah in August 2005 by 600K, TEOM had just sold 2-3 million copies the past few months, whereas Celine's sales would have been a few hundred thousand, so Celine would have had more distance between them prior to April 2005. But like we've said, it's all silly when debut definitely 'would have' scanned 3 mil+ in 1990 had the technology existed.

Re: Miley, I'm so happy to see it! The reality is that Mariah is a sensitive soul; the juxtaposition with that and her larger than life 'diva' personality is why we love her. So I think having someone be *so* effusive in their praise really touched her. It was so genuine (and at a huge scale event to boot) that I think Mariah couldn't help but be totally charmed. I am such a fan of this new friendship.

One issue as of late has been that Kelly's show is in NYC and Mariah lives in L.A. So, for instance, when Mariah did her promo this past holiday season she did shows taped in L.A.

Celine may have been ahead in Soundscan for a brief time, but so what? I don't understand the relevance. (I know you didn't bring this discussion up, so that's a general statement by me.) This discussion stemmed from one site updating their totals for Mariah. The reality is in terms of RIAA certifications, Mariah is the top selling woman in the U.S. Whether or not Celine was ahead of her at some point in Soundscan is irrelevant because, as has been said, for one Soundscan only represents a specific period, and for another it leaves out music club sales.

Side note, but I am still confused about what the Soundscan total we have for the debut represents. Billboard didn't start incorporating Soundscan in its charts until May 1991 (and even then not all major chains had it, for instance Tower chains did not). Presumably Soundscan existed before then, but I've heard that Soundscan totals for albums actually don't include most of 1991. Does anyone have an official source on that? The 4.9 million total for the debut surely includes at least some of 1991 since most of its sales occurred in 1990 and the first half of 1991.
