I really wonder how Mariah feels about Caution. She doesn’t really talk about it much. I love that album it is one of those albums that is such a Mariah album, but it also doesn’t feel like one because the production on it is so nice, lush, and slightly skirts conventional production for her. I think she uses her voice in such a beautiful way on this album. I’m such a whore for Mariah using her lower register, and I love it on this album.

Sadly, I don't think she gives it much thought or thinks highly of it (hope I'm wrong). It was not a commercial juggernaut like Music Box was, nor is it considered as artistically important for her as say Butterfly. It doesn't even really have as much of an under-dog/fan favorite narrative as something like Glitter nor does it have a comeback narrative like TEOM does, even though I absolutely do it as a return to form of sorts. I remember reading a headline that says that Caution was Mariah staying current without losing her charm and that is a great summation of what is great about the album.

I imagine is sort of gets lost in the shuffle for her considering all the other albums in her discography. Plus, the last time I remember her talking about it was about how she disliked how rushed the process felt making it and how she wished she had more time with it. If it had been more commercially successful (at least at the level on MIAMTEC), it might have gotten more attention. A shame since it could have fared much better had the single choices been better.

I will never understand how she considered Caution rushed when it came out almost four years after her previous album. I don't know when she started working on it but she definitely had plenty of time lol.

She definitely doesn’t dislike Caution, she said on Twitter she liked working with the people she worked with on the album, if nothing else, but I bet it wouldn’t rank at the top top tier of her personal MC album ranking. She has said she disliked how the label/roc nation “pressured” her to put it out and that if it had been on her she would take more time to do more songs and beef up the vocals. Something about her giving more belting and layering, and basically giving it more of the Mariah treatment vocally. She also said she didn’t end up liking the campaign to launch it… with a promo single being put out each week until the album’s release; she said, that way, about half the album had come out before its actual release date, and she hated that. She’d rather a more old school approach.

Tbh I don't think Mariah ever really sees an album as done. Since leaving Sony/Tommy, she's taken years to make most of her albums, and most of them have been delayed from when their original release date as well. We know Mariah is a perfectionist, so I don't think she's ever fully satisfied.

Yeah, but I also wonder how much of her comments about the campaign are just because the album didn't sell well. Like many lambs, Mariah tends to blame something underperforming on it not being promoted properly. That may be true for some things, but at the same time not everything that's promoted is going to catch on. It's also tough to promote something when you aren't confident it will be finished on time (look at the messy promo campaign for Me I Am Mariah, which was messy entirely because Mariah wouldn't finish the album).

Mariah Carey's mom Patricia and sister Alison died on the same day over the weekend, PEOPLE can confirm.

"My heart is broken that I’ve lost my mother this past weekend. Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day," the Grammy-winning singer, 55, said in an exclusive statement to PEOPLE.

"I feel blessed that I was able to spend the last week with my mom before she passed," adds Mariah. "I appreciate everyone’s love and support and respect for my privacy during this impossible time."

No other details, including Patricia and Alison's causes of death, are known at this time.

Yeah this is wild. She says she spent the past week with her mom, so I'm glad to know they found some measure of peace. I know there was at least speculation Pat hadn't been involved in Mariah's life for awhile, though I don't think it was ever proven.

She does refer to Alison as her sister, which is not what she was doing at the time she wrote her memoir if I'm not mistaken.

Oh man…that’s awful. Both on the same day. Such a deep, double loss for Mariah. Wishing her nothing but strength.
I remember Mariah saying in the introduction of the book that she will always love her mom to the best of her abilities and dedicating the book to her. We all know, having read Mariah’s memoirs, that Patricia was what she was, but she is partly responsible for the birth of a legend and the songbird supreme, so rest in peace Pat.
And Alison… :( Mariah says she thankfully had the chance to spend the last week with her mom, but I wonder when she last spoke to her sister? sigh I remember reading in the booklet of Mariah’s debut that it was dedicated to Alison… I truly truly hope Alison’s soul finds peace.
