It’s looking like a lot more Christmas songs are going to chart on the hot 100 this year. I wonder if Christmas baby please come home as has any shot.

It’s looking like a lot more Christmas songs are going to chart on the hot 100 this year. I wonder if Christmas baby please come home as has any shot. I doubt it. It would basically need to be at least top 50 on the Holiday 100 (and more so even higher as non-holiday songs will chart). It was #67 last chart. |

I used to love both Jimmy Fallon and Ellen but you can see in their demeanor that their job is no longer fun to them and has become a routine. So their reactions and the way they interview has become forced. They look utterly bored. That energy is felt by the guest and the audience watching at home. |

It makes me think of when characters on SNL break character and can't contain their laughter. At first, it felt genuine and it was hilarious. Now, I feel they just do it because it goes viral, and it comes off very forced. It's how I feel the entire Jimmy Fallon show experience is like.

Variety: The album, “Phil Spector’s A Christmas Gift for You,” really wasn’t as well-known as it came to be later, either
DL: They tell me it took Mariah Carey 25 years to get her (Christmas single, “All I Want for Christmas is You”) to No. 1. If mine’s going to be No. 1, it’s going to be more than that. She wasn’t even born when I recorded mine. [Laughs.] But that would be a reeeeeeal big, wonderful surprise if that would happen. As long as we here and we doing it, I say never say never. You never know.
Variety: “Christmas” gets covered so much, and no one changes it very much — even when it’s U2 doing it, the arrangement is the same and everybody’s trying to copy you, basically. Are there any covers you’ve enjoyed that people have done?
DL: Oh, yeah. I really did enjoy Mariah Carey’s version. I think she stuck so close to me, I was really surprised, because that has a lower voice than how she sings. But when you have a song that has a great melody, like “Christmas, Baby” does, there’s no sense in trying to mess with it. And she has such a great, powerful voice. She did an unbelievable version. U2 was funny. (The band’s version appeared on the first “A Very Special Christmas” charity compilation in 1987.] When they did it, they wanted me to do the backgrounds — not bring in the singers, but just me doing the backgrounds, period. So that was fun. They loved the song and that’s the way they wanted to record it. (Michael) Bublé, I love his version too. You know, he gave me credit. He went, “I hope I can do this song do justice. Here we go, Darlene.” [Laughs.] So a lot of the versions were pretty good, although Mariah Carey’s sticks out closest to my version.
Variety: Now people call Mariah “queen of Christmas” because her album from 25 years ago was so big, but for a lot of us, you’ll always be the queen of Christmas. Is there any kind of any competition for that title?
DL: You know, it’s funny because a lot of her fans, for a while… You know how your fans try to protect you? They thought she was the original person who recorded “Christmas (Baby, Please Come Home).” I told them they weren’t doing their homework. I don’t think Mariah Carey was born yet. But it’s okay. You know what? It just makes the album bigger. It makes the song bigger. Sometimes on the radio, I hear they’ll do her version, then they’ll play mine right after her. It’s fun after all these years. No harm is being done to anybody, I say.Variety I love Darlene. She has always praise MC.  I just saw her in The Christmas Chronicles sequel on Netflix, she’s such a powerhouse.

Yeah, Jimmy has always rubbed me the wrong way. I'm all about paying respect to legends, but the way he does it is so cloying. Same! I have NEVER liked him and always got a phony, kiss-ass vibe. Also, I love The Roots and would have rather they back Kimmel, who isn't as openly friendly and can be a bit of dick, but doesn't pander and is more real. The WORST is the Fallon-Timberlake bromance. Jimmy is like a big, goofy kid but I can see something in his eyes I don't like. |

I overlooked "8th Grade" when the album came out but it has become my most played tracks from Caution, followed by "Giving Me Life". It's definitely a standout track. |

Every time I put on Caution, I always do a full listen-thru. I think "A No No" is the only song I play out of context, but I love every track.
In other news, I caved and bought ALL the vinyls except MTV Unplugged. The 7 Sony 90s albums plus Caution have all shipped.
Charmie, TEOM, E=MC2, Memoirs, and MIAM are all shipping in January.

So the Christmas special was fantastic! Extra festive and Mariah looked radiant as always (though didn't love her hair in the grey dress lol)! It was so well put together tbh. Queen.

The Apple Music interview was amazing. It's on par with the Genius interview. I've re-visited the Genius interview multiple times and I'm sure I will be doing the same with the Apple Music interview.
I wonder who was the artist that complained to Mariah about having to do Christmas music. I can't believe they thought Mariah would give them any sympathy. Did they think she secretly hated Christmas? Lol. |

He's complained about becoming known only for his Christmas album, and he expressed some change in religious beliefs at one point. Perhaps he told Mariah that when they met when she did his TV special. |
