Her son would like Drake cause he’s forced down our throats but Mariah doesn’t need to collab with him.  I hate when people say a popular artist should collab with the current artist o’day because they are it right now. It wouldn’t even sound right. I would prefer a Kendrick Lamar collab over a soccer mom loving Drake one. 

What about Drake ft. Mariah produced by Walter A?

Amazing to see her at #1 again. I truly believe AIWFCIY is one of the greatest songs of all-time (not just *holiday*). It’s the perfect tune, start to finish, and it’s become a timeless anthem. It’ll live on forever and will likely go #1 again and again and again, as her legacy continues to grow even more.

Wham!’s “Last Christmas” was always one of my favorite ones growing up. It came out when I was still in school. I would love to hear her rendition of "The Christmas Song" someday, maybe playing into a more jazzier sound. (and no, we don't acknowledge that live performance) I feel like it would suit her current tone so beautifully.

As far as 'under' certifications go, we have long guessed that #1's and RAINBOW could be upped by 1 (the latter would be especially satisfying, giving her NINE consecutive QUADRUPLE platinum albums and a perfect streak for the 90s). I don't have a good grasp on some of the later albums being closer since streaming is not my area of expertise, but I wonder in MOAIA could be close since Obsessed had that TikTok moment?

While we would all love the debut to be certified, it has had historically poor sales after the compilations were released, and none of the singles are in the top ten (maybe even 15) most enduring Mariah songs. I do wonder if MUSIC BOX or DAYDREAM (especially) could ever hit 11x, since they have enduring hits on them.

The RIAA site is weird and inconsistent. If you go to the Top Tallies tab and then Top Artists by album, it now shows Mariah at 68.5 million albums total and tied with Barbra. If you go to the Artists tab, though, it shows her with 66.5 million albums total and behind Barbra.

Either way Mariah is actually behind Barbra Streisand as Barbra should be at 72.5 million total. Her Star is Born duet album with Kris Kristofferson is 4x platinum but not included in her Artist totals on those pages.

Your math is off. Is totaling 67.5...Emotions is 4x Platinum not 5.

Thanks for the information regarding where to search in the site. That’s such a mess on their part.

In conclusion, after all this research the RIAA has left me no choice but to go with what’s truly right to me...

I'm confused about some certifications. The RIAA website lists Emotions and MTV Unplugged both at 4x platinum, while I found a Billboard article from 2005 with Emotions at 5x and Unplugged at 3x (this is how I remembered things, but edited my prior post to reflect the RIAA website listing). I wonder what gives.

You are absolutely right, "Up!" has the benefit of being a double album. I think that the post by Me. I Am l!nk!nfan815 at the top of this page is as close as it gets to whatever the truth is at this point.

Do you remember MTV Unplugged at 4x though? RIAA lists its cert date as Dec 1994. So Billboard would have been making 2 errors in the 2005 article (not impossible at all, just pointing out).

Mariah’s Magical Christmas special soundtrack was affected. Instead of #99 it’s now #100.
