I enjoyed it. I don't understand why she was so out of breath but she was clear, if behind the music a bit. I'm very happy she went live. She looked great except what was that consistently worried/constipated look she had on her face the whole time?
Honestly, I'm just glad that little blonde girl was back. She killed it again! Those pirouettes though.

I think she makes that face because US tv makes her nervous. Ever since GMA (or was it the today show she flubbed the notes of beautiful?), I would be too.
All things considered, I'm glad she did it live too. I love her.

That was a train wreck. She sounded so off key and out of breath and she missed some lyrics. At this point, she should know that song cold. She didn't forget any lyrics.

She really didn't. She sang most of the song in fine voice and it was just her falsetto that refused to work.

She sounds so bad its embarrassing. She seriously should retire if that's the best she can do vocally. She sounded like a bad karaoke version of herself and she knew she sounded horrible.

I enjoyed it. I don't understand why she was so out of breath but she was clear, if behind the music a bit. That's a big issue for her, her breath control. I noticed for the first time last year when she sang AIWFCIY at the National Christmas Tree Lighting in DC; she can't catch her breath, you can almost hear her panting at times. I get the impression that is the one factor derailing her performances (well, that and the constant ear-monitor problem ). It's like she's chasing the music. When she sits down and sings slow songs she sounds good. I wonder if her recent weight gain makes it even harder for her to breathe properly and get through a song. That said, I really enjoyed MC last night... like I said. Don't think I'm trashing the performance, because I really loved it. It was nice to see her having fun and singing fully live. I also *LOVED* the way she sounded during the a capella intro of the song.

I liked the fact that her voice sounded healthy, much healthier than a few years before. Sure she couldn't go for the high notes, but her tone is still beautiful and I'm sure she can do a lot better than this. I was afraid she would be all strained like Christina or couldn't hold a note for 1 sec like Whitney, so I'm fine with it.

I love how everyone on social media has become an expert singer all of a sudden. She does not deserve to be thrown under the bus for this performance. It wasn't flaw free, but it was a very solid performance. There are performances that she deserves shade for, but this is not one of them.

She really didn't. She sang most of the song in fine voice and it was just her falsetto that refused to work. I haven't been watching her recent performances so maybe this is an improvement, but I think she did sound terrible. Ditched every high note, no control over her pitch, no real falsetto, melodic changes that didn't work, strained... And I haven't even watched the unforgiving mic feed. My friend sent the video in a group text.

That's how bad she was. When will it all end. When will she stop pretending she's still got it. It's time for her to retire. I don't know what happened to kill her voice at such a young age. I've heard people say its nodules, drinking, overuse...I don't know. It's so sad to see her like this. I can remember when she first came on the scene. She was such an amazing talent. RIP Mariah Carey.

Girl gone. She's alive and kicking. Stop being so dramatic, it does no one any good, not even yourself.

I've had two people text me about her performance... One asked if she's sick, and other asked if she may have had the same surgery Julie Andrews had... I couldn't even defend it. Love the woman, but to Mariah standards, it was a vocal train wreck. Her voice was just not there; no range, no control, horrible breathing, etc...
I'm glad she attempted to go 100% live, but I'm now clear on why she usually doesn't.

I don't think it's a disaster. I mean, DUH she clearly had some awful moments, but her lower register sounded great!

From Marc Shaiman's facebook page (Mariah and him wrote the classics "Christmas Time Is In The Air Again" and "One Child" on MCIIY - just an FYI for all the non-lambs who suddenly discovered this thread and decided to post. ;)):

I don't think it's a disaster. I mean, DUH she clearly had some awful moments, but her lower register sounded great! When you're marketed as "the voice", "greatest voice of all time", "biggest vocal range", etc... Performances like last night's just aren't acceptable to the general public. I was ecstatic watching videos from her recent Asian tour, her voice was in fabulous condition. So I'm not sure what happened... But last night's performance was just not good.

I know, but voices deteriorate and it was freezing outside, so I can understand some moments in that performance. Others... not so much, but still it wasn't THAT awful. Now if another singer (like Ariana or Katy) gave that performance, y'all would be shitting on them so hard, I'll admit that, but oh well...

I haven't seen/heard it so I can't comment but it's all over the place and not good. I won't be able to watch/listen until tonight.

The performance was NOT a disaster cause we are here everyday seeing videos and footage from her tours so for the standards of the early tour dates IT IS an improvement
HOWEVER, to the media and grand public's eye, this is a 100% trainwreck cause people don't see her performing much often. Same happened to Whitney's last performances

Keep posting like that and that screenname of yours will be on ITS death bed. Differing opinions are acceptable, but personal comments like this are not. Obviously, constructive comments would have been better than such provocative, insubstantial statements like that "death bed" one, but please refrain from personally targeting fellow posters.

Mariah Carey is held at such a high standard, and she's performed this song flawlessly so many times that this performance is going to sound a little off, but cut her some slack. She's the most revered vocalist of all time, she's singing in the fucking freezing cold in NYC, she just got off a world tour, she's in the middle of a publicly scrutinized divorce. I'd say that was pretty damn good, I'd love to hear your favorites do better.

TMZ is gunning hard for her all of a sudden too. Unappreciative dicks, go rip someone who truly can't sing. I hope she's not subjected to seeing this shitty press.

And that's just the beginning; he'll be clowning her for years to come now that he's back in the Z-List. Mark my words.
