Now that I think of it, I think we've seen this early on in the announcements.

#13: "My All"Album: ButterflyFirst Reached No. 1: May 23, 1998Chart Run (courtesy of MariahDaily): 2-2- 1-2-4-4-4-4-4-8-9-9-18-22-26-31-33-38-51-51 Replaced: "Too Close" | NextReplaced By: "Too Close" | NextSomewhat surprisingly, neither "Singles Spotlight" nor "Chart Beat" made any mention of Mariah the week that "My All" fell from No. 1. Must be some kind of shade toward 1-week-No. 1's... {May 30, 1998 - "My All" Falls From No. 1}

Please leak single, my God. I don't have a subscription to Billboard magazine or. Whatever for a reason. Dahhhling, this upcoming album IS a collection of her Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 hits, you know - so why not relive those memories in this thread while we wait for the song to surface? Your remarks did inspire me to start using Spoiler Tags, so that I'm not consuming quite so much of each page - so thank you for that.

Speaking of Mariah's chart domination in the '90s, can we talk about how Daydream only fell 3.6% in sales in its 2nd week?!?!

#11: "Always Be My Baby"Album: DaydreamFirst Reached No. 1: May 4, 1996Chart Run (courtesy of MariahDaily): 2-2-2-2- 1-1-2-2-2-2-2-4-5-6-7-11-14-17-20-20-22-24-26-31-31-32-42-41-41-43-44-48 Some interesting Hot 100 Airplay stats about this one: It debuted on Hot 100 Airplay when "One Sweet Day" was still at #1 (its 11th week at #1 to be exact) It spent 40 weeks on the Hot 100 Airplay chart It was #1 on the year-end Hot 100 Airplay chart; it debuted before "Because You Loved Me" (the song that blocked it from #1 on Hot 100 Airplay) and passed it back months later

I looked at the chart run for Mariah and Luther's "Endless Love," and it's very puzzling. It debuted and rose very quickly, but by week 6 it was already on the decline in airplay! It was #2 in sales for a solid month, though, so there was commercial interest. Additionally it fell from 47 on Hot 100 Airplay to off the chart (a 75 position chart) but was #23 in sales.
I wonder why the bottom dropped out at radio, especially since Mariah had typically had the favor of radio then.

^She did a little bit of it when she was overseas for the troops. But, post-Glitter, note that she hasn't performed anything from the album.

I was looking at the chart info for "Underneath the Stars," too. It had a chart run on R&B Airplay of 74-0-0-72-0-69-70. We know it had a remix, but was it sent to radio? I'm assuming that airplay was due to some type of push to radio, but maybe not? If it was promoted, then it obviously flopped. If it wasn't promoted, it's cool it charted at all, but then why was the remix made?

but then why was the remix made? I ask myself that a lot. Maybe, just for fun? I don't particularly like the remix.

re: UTS, a few years ago she Tweeted about an official video having been filmed: So if they bothered to shoot a video + commission the Drifting Remixes, it must've been planned as a full-fledged single at some point, but then got swept under the rug? Maybe because "Forever" "only" made it to No. 9 on Airplay, or as a way for Tommy to "punish" Mariah as their marriage crumbled (since I believe UTS was/is her favorite track on the album)? I don't know much about how radio adds worked in the 90's (or now, for that matter), but I guess enough stations got ahold of it that it got some spins, but without any promo/push from the label whatsoever, it quickly drifted to another place in time... (well, off the charts entirely.)

Glitter is as much a Mariah album as her others. And it even has some stronger tracks than what appeared on some of the others. I just think the bad rap associated with it is why she ignores it when it comes to live performances.
jeng- "Endless Love" probably didn't have strong feedback from radio listeners, hence the relatively hasty descent down the airplay chart.

IMO, Mariah and Luther's version FAR exceeds the original version. Luther sounds strong and soulful, Mariah angelic and sublime. Their voices blended perfectly-- I would have guessed that would have been huge at the time. It remains one of my favorite live vocal performances from Mariah ever-- stunning.

It's possible, but it seems odd since sales held up much better than the airplay. As in, people were still buying the song so someone was feeling it.

I think she could have had even more synergy with the Vegas show, and chosen live performances for each of the No. 1s and made it a (mostly) live album. That's a fine live version of "Someday," but the credit makes it stick out like a sore thumb among the others.
"I'll Be There" live is understandable, given that's how it was released. And the Bad Boy version of "Fantasy" is a win-win for all, given that she's partial to the ODB version, but included a version that also contains the winning chorus.
