OMG, I love the way the violins build up as she hits that note at the end. Love itt!
In other news, is true that Mariah is gonna arrive at Caesars today on a carriage with a herd of 10,000 lambs behind her?!

No way! :o Where did "You're Mine" peak at? I thought it flopped but apparently it made Top 20. Most of her songs hit a decent iTunes position the first day due to her hardcore fans downloading them. The key is more so how long they hang around. "YM" dropped like a rock.

Who produced and wrote Infinity? Well, when you purchase it from iTunes the "Composer" box has: Mariah Carey, Eric Hudson, Priscilla Renea, Taylor Parks & Ilsey Juber I'm assuming those are the writers, though...not necessarily producers (some reviews state that she at least co-produced it herself, others cite Eric Hudson. who appears in that list.)

The production is so smooth and "bop-ish". I just don't like extended chorus. I knew the ending was going to be like that lol. She tryna let people know..

She has the top trending music video on YouTube and she's #4 on the overall chart.

Can't help but feel a little sad that gems like "Stay the Night", "Migrate", and "Side Effects" didn't get to see the light of day. They'd without a doubt be a part of this package of #1s. Such huge missed opportunities! Imagine if one of those was the bonus single? Any of them would easily become her 19th #1... Ughhh, if only.

I think the real #1 here is her marketing team.

It would have been nice to have this marketing team for MIAMTEC.

It would have been nice to have this marketing team for MIAMTEC. Eh, it's hard to know how this team would have handled all of the delays surrounding MIAM. The marketing team then did a great job setting up "#B" and in general Mariah had a ton of promo for MIAM, but Mariah's multiple delays of the album meant the promo got spread out. Plus, Mariah's poor performances on AI and other places didn't help, nor did terrible videos. You can't blame any of that on the marketing team.

This team is on point though! Yeah here is the thing though a good marketing team and staff in general would keep her on point, so there are as few delays as possible.
Yes, Mariah is to blame for it as well, but if you are hired to do a job Mariah Carey or no, you better keep her on point.

I disagree. I knew exactly what was going to happen there. Standard Mariah. I wish she'd experiment a bit with the structure of her songs. She has all kinds of different structures to her songs. Just because she ends with a big note doesn't mean the structures are the same. Both "WBT" and "DFAU" end with a sustained belt, yet those songs have very different structures. I do NOT understand these sources - EW, Vanity Fair - saying "Infinity" is '90s. Huh? What about it is '90s? That's not what I was saying at all, but ok...

You had written that you wish she would experiment with the structures of her songs, and I replied to point out a difference in the structures of two songs. How was that not relevant? I can also point out that Vision of Love, Underneath the Stars, Cruise Control, Honey, Looking In, My All, Heartbreaker, and Infinity all have different song structures from one another.

I wasn't arguing that ending in a big note = same. I didn't mention a big note ending at all. You pulled all of that out of your ass. And honestly, your examples aren't relevant to my point either. When mariah is making a certain type of record, song structure is nearly identical for that subset. Not across these boundaries but within. I could go on, but I'm not trying to get into a Stanwar over something that was a passing comment. Accept a difference in opinion and move on.

Don't most songs from any artist have pretty much the same structure? Verse, prechorus, chorus, verse, prechorus, chorus, bridge, outro? I'm assuming you mean that she came out with another mid tempo.
I don't know, I think this song is kinda fresh for her. I could see it on either TEOM or MIAMTEC in that it has lush instrumentation and fresh production for the most part. Is it my favorite song of hers ever? No, but after giving it a few listens, I'm pretty much loving it :)

No I didn't, and yes you did address a big note ending in commenting that you knew what was going to happen there (and then added your point about song structure): In that it was at the end of the song.... But the build DOWN to the whistle note wasn't predictable... I disagree. I knew exactly what was going to happen there. Standard Mariah. I can't think of another Mariah song that has the structure of "Infinity." Don't most songs from any artist have pretty much the same structure? Verse, prechorus, chorus, verse, prechorus, chorus, bridge, outro? I'm assuming you mean that she came out with another mid tempo. Maybe the poster meant that about tempo, but tempo is different from song structure. Song structure typically refers to the types of things you mentioned - verses, chorus, a prechorus, a bridge, etc. and how they work together. "Infinity" has a sort of intro/pre-verse ("Why you mad...") before getting into the traditional verse/chorus structure. I can't think of too many songs by any artist that has one of those pre-verse sections, nor do many songs have a section in the 2nd verse similar to the "Ain't no..." lines as that is a change in melody. "Infinity" then has a bridge, too, unlike Mariah singles like "It's Like That" or "Shake It Off." Then after the final chorus it has the breakdown (or whatever) section of "You're leaving..." I can't think of many songs with that type of section either. So, regardless of people's feelings about the quality of the song, it's factual that it has a unique song structure.

Yes, Mariah is to blame for it as well, but if you are hired to do a job Mariah Carey or no, you better keep her on point. This team probably has a bigger promo budget since the Vegas shows will likely bring in tons of money. The promo budget for her albums is likely small since her albums nowadays don't bring in much money. Even with the best team, they can't do much with a small budget.

I like Infinity but I'm not sure that its gonna do that well at radio. Mariah's voice sounds good. I'm surprised so many people are saying that they don't like it. Me too! I really like the song. She sounds really good....maybe some people expect more poppy song?

This is already her second highest peaking single on iTunes this decade behind "#Beautiful". No way! :o Where did "You're Mine" peak at? #Beautiful peaked at #4 You're Mine peaked at #4 as well (main version #11 and a second version at #31, if combined would be #4 overall).

I think you're misunderstanding my initial and subsequent posts. I am unable to fully articulate myself for a few reasons: I am busy, and devote myself to an online forum; and I have only been able to post from mobile as of late, which limits my patience for typing posts.
So, you may feel free to drop your crusade against an opinion that opposes your essential way of life.
But I do think it's a little naive to think that Mariah has not been formulaic with respect to her music. There are certain structural, vocal, and melodic elements that you can certainly expect of a 90s Mariah uptempo, 00s Mariah uptempo, 00s Mariah mid single, 00s Mariah ballad, etc. That's documented. And as of late, her vocal arrangements are also predictable. But this is all coming from a person with a musical ability and understanding, so it may go over the heads of those who are not as innately inclined.

Just listened to it. It's not groundbreaking or anything but it was a nice listen and would fit on MIAM quite nicely. Also, I love the lyrics. Mariah handing out a verbal lashing all over a nice instrumental.
