From the press she did yesterday: "I think giving your last album to a label that you're leaving is never a good idea because there's just not that incentive," she said, adding it's a new world for selling albums. "If you don't go out there and promote it in the proper way and you don't have 100 per cent of the label behind you, it's not going to work. It's just the way it is."
Carey said she's getting ready to produce a new album, although she's not sure what it's going to be yet.Typical Mariah displacing blame. The label DID promote the album. The problem is Mariah delayed it so many times that the promo done for "#B" and then "YM" (not to mention things already put in place for the album itself) were ultimately pointless. I, too, would have been out of energy - and money - for promotion by the time MIAM actually dropped.

I, too, would have been out of energy - and money - for promotion by the time MIAM actually dropped. Maybe I'm misinterpreting it but I thought she was giving herself some of the blame? This sentence: ""If you don't go out there and promote it in the proper way and you don't have 100 per cent of the label behind you, it's not going to work. It's just the way it is." Assuming the 'you' in this sentence is the same person throughout, 'you' = Mariah herself. Granted, she is still casting some blame on DJ by saying they weren't behind her 100%, but she seems to at least be acknowledging to some degree that it was also on her. Truthfully the label could only do so much without the star herself being present, so the bulk of the blame lays at her feet. But with it being her last album for them, DJ probably did feel less incentive to try to reign her in and keep her from spiraling. And we see that with singers a lot of times - take any career implosion and you can almost always trace it back to either the end of a contract or a separation from a key figure in that person's career. The impetus to hide the cracks just dissipates. I'll never quite understand why MIAM got held up so much, though. I know her and Nick's separation was going on longer than we thought so that would explain many of the delays; she was distracted and really not into doing much of anything herself. But did that situation stretch back so far that the album couldn't have been released right after #Beautiful? That doesn't seem likely, and I get the feeling that the decision to leave DJ for Epic happened after #Beautiful but before YM(E). But it's water under the bridge now, I guess it's not worth nitpicking about it since we can't change it.

It was probably a veiled reference to her being unwilling to push the project when she was having such intense personal issues in her life.

I love how that bitch told every last one speculating that if there were any doubts come to her house and sing in the shower with her.
Also, it could explain a lot of why things went wrong with MIAM if she did announce the intention to leave wih this album. Maybe that is where she is taking the blame.

Mariah is the QUEEN. She is something else, telling folks they can come sing in the shower with her. I loved it. Mariah seems happy so that's always good. I hope that this Vegas residency goes well for her. I'm liking Infinity more and more each time I hear it. I hope that she'll hurry and get the video for it out.

Infinity is a nice song but in no way does it sound like hit material. It's more like Madonna's Celebration, a nostalgic nod to past glories.

Can't help but feel a little sad that gems like " Stay the Night "So Lonely", "Migrate", and "Side Effects" didn't get to see the light of day. They'd without a doubt be a part of this package of #1s. Such huge missed opportunities! Imagine if one of those was the bonus single? Any of them would easily become her 19th #1... Ughhh, if only. I am loving Infinity

Its never HER FAULT, its always someone else's. There was nothing IDJ could have done to save MIAM with the mess that Mariah HERSELF did to it

I've never been the biggest Mariah fan, in fact I kinda wasn't one at all until about 2 years ago. So because of my lateness into her music I'm only familiar with her last 2 albums and a handful (about 5) of her older singles.
I loved MIAM enough that I started buying her older albums when I find them cheap. I got "Emotions", "Music Box", "Butterfly", & "Charmbracelet". Even owning them for a few months now I never sat and listened to them fully.
As I type this I'm listening to 'Emotions' for the first time and I gotta say I'm an idiot for not listening sooner! I'm loving this album.
With my first listen through so far I'm in love with "Emotions", "Make It Happen", "If It's Over" and "You're So Cold". I have 2 tracks left as I type this.
Which album should I buy next? and I'm planning on listening to the others I own right after this. :)

You'll be slayed!!!

After that you'll own every studio album save for Rainbow, Glitter and E=MC2. Those albums all have their merits IMO, but they're not priority listening for someone who is just starting to discover Mariah. As for the order to listen to them: I almost always tell people to listen to discographies in chronological order so they can experience and appreciate a person's transitions. With Mariah in particular I don't know that it's possible to really grasp the metamorphosis that Butterfly represented for her without listening to the album that immediately preceded it, the flawless Daydream. And you can't fully appreciate why TEOM was such a great comeback without having listened to everything that came before it. But if you must listen out of order, listen to Daydream and Butterfly back to back so you can then join the never-resolved debate over which album is her best; #1 to Infinity so that you are familiar with all the chart toppers; TEOM so that you know her comeback album; then you can go back and take in everything else.
