I Hope she doesnt do them in Chronological order. Thats Too Boring and obvious. I hope she mixes them up and comes up with a Theme to make them all flow together but not CHRONOLOGICAL> No. Dont Do it Mariah. and I would love for her to throw in Remixes of MY ALL - and Thank God I found you instead of the Originals.

I feel like a flop fan for not knowing there's a video for this song I hadn't seen that in years. Isn't the production a bit different, or am I just not remembering that 1st verse being so low key cinematic?

I feel like a flop fan for not knowing there's a video for this song Not sure if you knew, since you were surprised by its video - but "There's Got To Be A Way" was released as the 4th and final single from her debut in the UK (and several European countries, I believe) in 1991, in lieu of "I Don't Wanna Cry." Not sure if a US release was ever rumored/considered. UK Chart Run = *54* - 57 - 71 - OUT

I listened to Butterfly in full for the first time in a while the other day. Such a flaw-free pop/R&B crossover album - not a bad song on it. But Emancipation remains my most-played from her. There's just such a thrill in listening to an album where the artist and her team pull out all the stops and just deliver. I stan for a new track with every listen - currently, it's "Say Somethin'."
I also have a newfound appreciation for Charmbracelet. It sorta serves as a sonic bridge between Butterfly and Emancipation; you can hear elements of both, albeit in subtle ways. Although the cut/paste vocal segments on "Through The Rain" are far too obvious, it's a well-written song. And apart from that horrid chipmunk effect, "Boy (I Need You)" and "You Got Me" are bona fide bops.
Memoirs though... I can never remember anything from that album apart from the first three tracks, "Standing O," and "I Wanna Know What Love Is." It's just so forgettable in the grand scheme of her discography.

I agree Butterfly is flaw-free. I think the only thing that keeps it from being my favorite is the lack of a real jam in the way "Emotions" and "Fantasy" are jams. Butterfly is mostly warm/sad. In terms of the songs themselves, I like Charmbracelet a lot. There are a lot of good lyrics (Clown, You Had Your Chance, My Saving Grace, I Only Wanted, Sunflowers) and melodies (The One, Boy, Clown, My Saving Grace, Lullaby). It's too bad she sang every single on in her airy voice. Songs like "Bringin' on the Heartbreak" and "Subtle Invitation" are crying for full vocals, and ultimately it's too much of the same. I don't think most of the songs are bad with the airy vocals; it's just that hearing it on song after song becomes tiresome and drags the album down. I think "HATEU" is a legit classic in her catalog. It's so good! I can see where the album as a whole has a sameness to it, though, and I think that was actually on purpose (it's a mood album).

NOT at the "When I Saw You" hate. I will not accept that. That was one of my favorite songs when I first heard the album and actually remains one of my favorite Mariah tracks ever. It's just so, ugh. Perfect. Emotional. Serving vocals, serving drama. Maybe I can just really relate to that type of over the top sentiment but idk that's a fuckin jam to me.

Mimi shading Robin Leach and his observation lol
What's the story behind "Infinity" because I read all those rumblings today (about the Nick Cannon breakup)?
You read all that, but you missed the Brett rumors, so that's pretty amazing. No, the story behind "Infinity" is really about loving yourself first because "Infinity" loving me more and more, that's the motto really.
It's about no matter what you go through, the ups and downs in life, you have to put yourself first and love yourself first and get through anything that way. That's the message.

The Mariah Carey Business Model Source: Bloomberg Business
If you took inventory of Mariah Carey's recent projects, you might conclude she's desperate for money. In 2011 she hosted a three-night special on the Home Shopping Network, where she modeled cheap jewelry with as much gusto as Paula Abdul before her. In 2013, she followed Abdul again, taking her seat on American Idol. Earlier this year, Carey announced a "residency" in Las Vegas, where she'll compete for ticket sales with such hot acts as Britney Spears and Penn & Teller. Then, on April 27, she of the famous five-octave range released a greatest hits album.
Called #1 to Infinity, it features songs that topped the Billboard Hot 100, starting with her 1990 ballad "Vision of Love" and ending at "Touch My Body," which held the top spot for two brief weeks ināwaitā2008? That was seven years ago. Carey has released three albums since, but they've all flopped. And yet, despite all the markers of a career on the decline, the diva is thriving. According to CNN, Carey, 45, is worth upwards of $520 million. That's more than Elton John and on par with Jay Z.
Much of her current success, of course, rests on the foundation of her earlier career. With 18 No. 1 Billboard hits, she holds the record for a solo artist. In 2001, piled high with Grammy nominations and platinum records, she signed an $80 million, five-album contract with EMI. At the time it was one of the largest record deals for a female singer, second only to Whitney Houston's $100 million contract with Arista Records. "She's the last of a dying breed," says Jeff Rabhan, chair of NYU's Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music. "A pop diva put on a pedestal. That doesnāt happen anymore."
Carey did a memorable job recording hits like Heartbreaker and Always Be My Baby, but that's not what keeps her flush. It's that she wrote her own lyrics. "If you're just the artist, you live off record sales, but as a songwriter sheās paid every time her song is played on the radio or streamed online," says Clyde Rolston, a music-business professor at Nashville's Belmont University. "That makes a huge difference in long-term financial success." With Nineties nostalgia kicking in, Carey's music is streamed on Spotify twice as often as Madonna's.
Negotiating writing credits is now de rigueur for Katy Perry, Rihanna, and other young pop starsāeven if they haven't actually penned the tunes. But Carey has always been shrewd with her contracts: In 2001, when she tried acting, in the movie Glitter, she bombed. The soundtrack album that followed sold only 500,000 copies. EMI, her label at the time, decided it would pay to never work with her again. So she brokered $28 million out of the deal. The New York Times did the math: Carey made about $25 per copy of Glitter sold at retail.
After that the singer bounced around to a few labels and released new albums with inconsistent results. Careyās also not really a live performer. She can sing, of course, but "you don't really remember when they announce a new Mariah Carey tour, do you?" asks Bob Merlis, a longtime music publicist at Warner Bros. "She's just not a touring act." (She canāt dance.) According to the music data site Pollstar, Carey's tours have pulled in $60 million since 2000. Christina Aguilera has made $92 million.
So how does Carey remain a star without big concerts or breakout songs? By saying yes, basically. A few months on American Idol netted her $18 million. Her Elizabeth Arden fragrances have made more than $150 million in revenue since 2007. She's still hawking her HSN line, and she's also got a new soft drink. Carey's most profitable partnership remains the one she has with Santa Clausāshe gets a windfall of royalties every Christmas "when All I Want for Christmas Is You" is played ad nauseam.
Now she's turning to Vegas, the only channel she's yet to milk of its money. Starting in May, she'll play 18 shows at Caesars Palace while its matron, Celine Dion, rests. If the shows sell, Carey would be wise to make the gig permanent: Dion makes about $2 million in ticket sales a night. If it doesn't work out for Carey, that will probably be fine, too. Even her failures end up making her a lot of money.

^^ The shade in that article...not to mention the incorrect facts, like after Glitter she "bounced around to a few different labels." Pretty sure she was at IDJ (or Island once the split happened) until she just moved to Epic recently?? So, from 2002-2015. Actually that's longer than she was at Sony the first time around.

Any shade to this song doesn't even exist to me. THANK YOU. So Blessed is one of my all-time fave Mariah ballads and is on the best Mariah ballads album: Emotions. Can't Let Go, And You Don't Remember, The Wind, Til The End Of Time, If It's Over..... PERFECTION. Glitter is a must-listen for true Mariah fans. Great ballads, but also some of her best (and real) uptempos: I Didn't Mean To Turn You On being my favorite along with All My Life, and Last Night A DJ Saved My Life and Don't Stop (Funkin 4 Jamaica) are both jams too. If We has one of her catchiest hooks and Loverboy is pure kitsch. The 2nd half of Want You has some of her greatest vocals.

Is there any chance of Mimi being at the Billboard awards this year since is in Las Vegas? I mean damn, 25 years in the business has to count for something right? Not to mention she's one of Billboard's most prolific chart artists. Anyhow, here's hoping. FYI, I ask this because Roger mentioned it again today, and while he's been wrong with news in the past, he's also been right... Showbiz 411ā@showbiz411 As far as I know, @ mariahcarey is supposed to participate in Billboard Awards.

I love it only because it just underscores the fact that any attempt at shading Mariah generally equates to: a) must get details wrong to even try it b) and even then, the bitch still slays all your faves with every every past, present, and future receipt. Bless their attempting hearts.
