Is that NY Times review the only one that was very critical of opening night?

Is that NY Times review the only one that was very critical of opening night? I'm not sure. I personally haven't found any in the sea of amazing praise she's been getting. But since you're out looking for the negativity, let us know if you find it.

^Actually, I hadn't seen any reviews; my other half pointed that one out to me and I was just wondering. Thanks, though.

Is that NY Times review the only one that was very critical of opening night? I googled reviews yesterday and the only "critical" one was from NYT. Supposedly there were 2 reviews from NYT and the other one contradicts this one. lol.

^Thank you. :) I glossed over the Times article when it was brought to my attention- the review probably made some valid points about her as a live performer (things we already know), but it was unnecessarily harsh in many spots.

while there is validity to parts of the one negative review out of many end of the day she hit notes and sang songs others wish they could.

Mariah To Tyson I Know Where to Stuff It!!! www.tmz.com/videos/0_2hdf6r4xMariah Carey helped out a dude in need by stuffing some bills in Tyson Beckford's underwear, and it looks like she got a load of the full Monty. Mimi unwound after her show Thursday night and went down the strip a stretch to take in Tyson's Chippendales show at the Rio. Armed with $300, Mariah was lured onstage and deposited the cash, but only after she played a round of butt bongos. Read more: www.tmz.com/#ixzz3ZZFvxW9dI love naughty Mariah

Per Billboard, "Infinity" sold 26,000 last week and had 1.8 million U.S. streams. The latter is a pretty impressive number- the song not leaking before its official premiere and having a lyric video released right away worked in its favor.

FWIW the version of this in the actual issue of the magazine is terrific. It gets 4 pages; the first page is the intro and part of a large photo, the 2nd page is the rest of the photo (a shot from the "Fantasy" video shoot) and the "Fantasy" write-up, and then the next 2 pages are the other songs along with small pics from the "Honey" video and Unplugged. They also include two celebs saying what their favorite non-#1 by Mariah is: Lee Daniels has a quote about "Make It Happen" and lamb Charli XCX has a quote about "Through the Rain." Go ahead and stan, EW!

This is sort of true; they just ran the AP review: www.nytimes.com/aponline/2015/05/07/arts/ap-nv-mariah-carey-vegas.html?_r=0Interesting news about the BBMAs performance.

I don't know if I like the selection of Emotions as the song choice with Infinity. I think I would have preferred something like Always Be My Baby and Infinity. I think there is a lot that can go wrong with Emotions if her voice isn't there that night versus another song choice.

She sang Emotions during the Xmas shows and sounded strong consistently. She's probably very confident in those high notes. And she'd have a few practice runs from Vegas by the time this show came around so she would be thoroughly prepared.

I wouldn't exactly call Emotions the highlight of her #1s show. She might sound better on it in a couple weeks, but something geared more in her middle/lower range would be smarter as that part of her voice is less likely to have issues.

Ugh, I'm Vision of Love. Edit: I like it but wouldn't rank it in my top 50 Mimi songs. @touch @antigonerising @jessielou what are your reactions to this? Virgo: โVision of LoveโPlease, I mapped out my perfect love life. I over-analyzed it. I know it is the perfect love. Why? Because Iโm a Virgo and this is what we do: plan.

I think Mariah equates people's perception of her vocal condition with her ability to hit whistle notes, and the criticism over the "AIWFCIY" performance where the whistle note is what she missed didn't help. She might be doing "Emotions" to show off whistle notes, but I think most people actually don't care a ton about the whistle notes. I prefer her lower register in terms of being impressive, and it's her mid-range belt that has that glorious timbre people love.

Ugh, I'm Vision of Love. Edit: I like it but wouldn't rank it in my top 50 Mimi songs. @touch @antigonerising @jessielou what are your reactions to this? Virgo: โVision of LoveโThis is pleasing, and honestly the song does fit our stereotypical quest for perfection (as well as the reality that there is no such thing..."and that is all that you turned out to be"). But I probably would have picked different songs for many of the signs. It's Friday and my car has finally given up the ghost on me and I don't have the money to do a damn thing about it, so like any typical Virgo who isn't good at coping with things I can't control, I'm going to do the only thing I can do: nitpick the hell out of something trivial and meaningless to everyone else but me. First of all, it really irks me when things like this start a list with Aquarius first. Aquarius is NOT the first astrological sign, Aries is. And Mariah is an Aries, so they need to get it right. Start with the queen! So on that note, Aries should have been either Vision of Love (first sign gets first #1 hit, duh) OR Fantasy (because that's Mariah's favorite so it's only right that she gets dibs on whichever song she likes). And Fantasy is so fun and in your face and just loving life, just like an Aries Taurus - I'll Be There because Taurus is extremely loyal and dependable. And also not one to get in a hurry about anything, so you know if you leave for a little while they'll be in the same spot when you get back Gemini - Touch My Body, with its slick pick-up lines and fake admonishments not to tell anyone about you two. Note they didn't say "there better not be a camera up in here." They said "If there's a camera up in here..." Gemini couldn't give a damn about being recorded. You see, Gemini already has plans to sell your sextape to the highest bidder and doesn't want you to cut into their profits with a leak. And also because they have at least ten other suckers just like you that they're stringing along and they don't want to get caught up...until they've gotten the goods, of course, then it's on to the next. This song perfectly encapsulates the zodiac's best con artist. Cancer - We Belong Together. Is it love or just the worst level of codependency? Who knows, but either way Cancer doesn't like being alone, and they can be pretty dramatic about it when feeling defensive. Leo - Don't Forget About Us. Leos like being the star and think they're the center of the universe so this would be their literal mantra. Virgo - probably should be I Don't Wanna Cry, b/c we hate showing emotion (and as the polar opposite of Pisces this is a perfectly contrasting song) but we hate wasting time on things that don't work even more. After three breakup songs before this, we are just OVER it and ready to move on to something we can actually fix. Libra - Honey, because Libras just want to have sex, and this song is about blowjobs and facials and pearl necklaces, oh my! sex. Probably more addicted to the idea of you - and sex - than to you. But addicted, nonetheless. Scorpio - Someday. Vengeful and vaguely threatening in that way where you don't know if this song is just a regular dis or if you're going to wake up one night to find them standing over you with knife saying 'boy, you're gonna pay, 'cause baby I'm the one that's keeping score' *cue horror movie music and blood-curdling scream* Sagittarius - Always Be My Baby - If you stay with them, that's great! And if you leave, that's cool too. Sags are the most carefree sign of the bunch. This isn't to say they don't care, but unlike Cancer, if you try to walk away they're not gonna be pressed about it (I seriously think this sign is incapable of being pressed) because they know you'll be back soon enough anyway. Capricorn - I'll assume Mariah snatched Fantasy for Aries, and give Cap Vision of Love. Cap rivals Virgo in planning out entire lives down to the timeline of events, then calling other people out for screwing shit up and not being on time. Aquarius - Hero pretty much fits Aquarius' inner need to be president of every nonprofit organization and inspire others to find their own inner do-gooder heroes deep down inside of us all. Pisces - Emotions was also 100% accurate. The sign most likely to be in love with love.

The lambs go HAM each and every time she hits that whistle. She's not misinterpreting anything - that is HER note. She should fucking trademark it.

Emotions is a great choice for the BBMA. It was probably my favorite song (legit) at the Xmas shows and she seemed totally comfortable singing it.
