Tone as in the emotion of her voice, or tone meaning the timbre/sound of her voice? TBH I thought the sound of Carrie's voice was pretty similar to Ronstadt's on the song, but I can see where she didn't bring the same sexiness to the song. I definitely hear Carrie sort of dominate the harmonies on "Blue Bayou," but I'm not complaining. I love Raitt's verse on that one. Carrie must have been flipping out getting to sing with all of those legends!! Again, I'm not sure if it's the video quality, but her tone during 'Drum' is too nasal for my liking, especially for the song. On the other hand, IMO, Carrie sounds phenomenal in 'Bayou'. I absolutely love her higher register harmonies- definitely a standout in all of the group performances. Because Carrie is so tragically underrated as a harmonizer, I want performances like these to be viewed more often by the mainstream public, labels, and artists, mostly because I want to hear her voice on so many duets, especially with my favourite artists and groups. Amazing the different things people hear, even when they're all listening to the same thing. Anyway, I didn't hear the nasal thing you heard, and I wasn't aware that Carrie is "so tragically underrated as a harmonizer". Given her numerous duets with artists in and out of country I find that statement incongruent with her history. I was glad to see that Linda's fans loved Carrie's ' Different Drum' as did the audience and fellow artists. Carrie was the lead voice in a number of the group songs. She is the hub of the wheel, if you will, the harmonies are grounded by the lead voice. Applause and kudos to this fabulous quintet. Comments on Message boards always remind me that what we hear is affected by what and who we like, so this difference in opinion is perfectly understandable. Makes life interesting if at times annoying .

I can see Carrie being "underrated" as a harmony vocalist simply because she's obviously mostly known as a powerhouse lead vocalist. Saying she's underrated as a harmony singer doesn't mean she's bad and there's no reason for fans to be a little sensitive about it. But I would agree she isn't generally known as a harmony singer the way Emmylou Harris, Alison Krauss, Patty Loveless, and so on are. Things like this HOF performance will help earn her even more respect in that regard, though.

Since you didn't make that statement, your interpretation is nothing more than assumption.2. No where in my post did I say that using the term 'underrated meant that Carrie was bad, those are your words. I pointed out that Carrie's numerous duets with icons appear, to me , to contradict the poster's statement.3.Why is it that when someone responds to a post that has questionable comments they are accused of being too sensitive? i didn't accuse Neally of cruelty, meanness or insensitivity. My point is, that I personally do not agree with the comments made in an earlier post. The number and frequency of duet gigs she's had tells me she already has respect in that area,. I don't believe Carrie has plans to abdicate her post as a powerhouse soloist anytime soon, to concentrate on being a 'harmonizer'...but perhaps in 30 years.....maybe.

According to Carrie's interview in Austin, her album will be out this year. I'm guessing a single out by summer.

Link (question pops up at very end of interview) Now that I think about it, it's about the exact same length of time between PO and BA -- 2 and a half years (assuming the album is released in Q4). Excited, nonetheless, and I'm really curious to see what direction this album goes in.

She also alludes to the fact that she is taking her time with things to make sure everything is just right, which should make a number of people (including myself) very happy. But yeah, I'm thinking a November release with August/September single; assuming "Something Bad" becomes a Summer hit for Carrie and Miranda. "Automatic" is nearing its end, and I'm almost positive that "Something Bad" is next considering how much the song has been talked about; and how Carrie mentioned she was performing it live "soon", AND how she mentioned in the interview they were brainstorming ideas for the song... I'm getting very excited!

It would be interesting to see Carrie Underwood's lead single from her upcoming CD be the duet with Miranda Lambert. Underwood has never done that before.

A duet released on one highly-anticipated CD won't pop up on another highly-anticipated CD whose release date (probably) isn't even a year behind the first one's. If it happens, it'll be a bonus track, kind of like how they treated "Don't You Wanna Stay" back in 2011 with Kelly Clarkson's Stronger release. Just because they share a label doesn't mean they're going to share the same album cuts, too.

Don't You Wanna Stay was on deluxe versions of the Kelly Clarkson CD which was released WAY after Jason Aldean's My Kinda Party CD.

Exactly. 14887fan is predicting that's what's happening to "Something Bad."

I don't think the duet will appear on both cds, but jmo
By the way, I can't wait to hear the Hall of Fame concert on HBO on May 31. Stevie Nicks complimented Carrie on A Different Drum. I think she slayed that song and her harmonies on Blue Bayou was excellent.

Carrie releasing "Something Bad" as her lead single would be an absolutely terrible idea in every way. The song would have already been released as an album track for Miranda's album, so there would be literally zero hype around it because everyone would have already heard it. It also wouldn't sell nearly as well because of how many people had already purchased the version on Miranda's album.
It would have been a very similar situation to if Carrie would have released "Remind Me" as the lead single for "Blown Away" (except with less time in between this time). It is absolutely a disastrous idea that Sony is much too competent to even dabble in the idea of happening.

Got a notification that FC Forums are going under maintenance for a brand new layout. The last time FC got an update was when they changed to the "Blown Away" format...

To add, they've changed it with every new album since "Carnival Ride", the change between "Carnival Ride" and "Play On" was the most significant. Perhaps the new format will provide some insight as to the direction and theme(s) of the new album! :)

I feel like it's still too early for them to have an album title, cover, theme, etc., however they very well could have a cover for the lead single and change the layout in that way.

t.co/aahWyq50iQThe dog slightly embarrassed. I know, it's quite in Carrie world. The Sound of Music Live, well the recorded version, will be shown in the UK today. Julie Andrews is a legend there, hopefully people wont be making comparison to the movie. We'll see.
