Sounds like typical teenage girl bulls**t. I feel that way about all of her singles. That's kind of her thing though. Her lyrics are clearly written by a high schooler for high schoolers, but the lyrics and sonic elements of her music put give it a different appeal than your average teen pop.

i'm not going to diss on her music, but it's pop music through and through. Just because it doesn't belong on the Alternative charts doesn't mean it's bad.

That's because the meaning of the lyrics went over your heads, just like the historical references in "Pompeii" could for someone who didn't know the history behind it. You might want to do some research first next time.

I prefer 'Team' over this. I like the fact her music has no true genre you can automatically label as.

This was the obvious choice. I think this is a shoe-in for the top 10.

While this is a pop song, it is also an alternative song. I don't understand why it can't be both. There are elements of both. While I don't find her lyrics to be that deep, I find her songwriting skills to be beyond her years. That's because the meaning of the lyrics went over your heads, just like the historical references in "Pompeii" could for someone who didn't know the history behind it. I find it really hard to believe that someone could not know the context of "Pompeii" 95% of my friends probably don't even know what Pompeii was. #AmericaSadly

Lorde sounds so out of place between Arctic Monkeys and Cage the Elephant. Even the poppiest bands like Phantogram or Grouplove still have small alt influences.

She's so un-pop that it is pop. That's the best way I can explain it.

Instead of the Alternative forum, it should be renamed the "Is it or isn't it Alternative?" forum at this point.

Instead of the Alternative forum, it should be renamed the "Is it or isn't it Alternative?" forum at this point. We do have the Folk/Indie forum, which no one seems to actually know how to use.

Why don't you just admit you actually don't like the alternative format rather than complaining about what kinds of songs get played on alternative radio?

The thing is, there aren't. Lorde sounds so out of place between Arctic Monkeys and Cage the Elephant. Even the poppiest bands like Phantogram or Grouplove still have small alt influences. Why don't you just admit you actually don't like the alternative format rather than complaining about what kinds of songs get played on alternative radio? Because I actually do like the alternative format. Many of my favorite songs of all time were big hits on the alternative charts, while some were more low-profile charting. The format was great, even when indie music was starting to pop up on their charts. Around 2011, the chart had a great mix of upcoming indie and veteran rockers. All of a sudden, these new indie bands are overriding the format, relegating the best bands to the bottom of the barrel. Even good indie music, like The Killers and Modest Mouse and The Strokes and Interpol and The National aren't chart successes, even when the format is at its most indie-friendly stage. My complaint is only about the songs that get played, not the format. Active isn't much better, frankly - lowgrade metalcore like All That Remains and Asking Alexandria isn't much better than Grouplove or Fitz and The Tantrums. However, the format knows its strengths and plays them well. Even if it lacks diversity, so does the Alternative charts. Where as Active is 90% cockrock and post-grunge, Alternative is 90% indie pop. Which is better? You decide.

This better be her third #1, this non-pop song is great Also, I too find it hard to believe that someone wouldn't know the context behind "Pompeii". Lorde's lyrics, yeah, I could see how the general public wouldn't understand them (Which is why I don't like that she gets played on Pop)

Bringing more thoughtfulness into the genre, proving that it isn't just vapid club anthems. I don't get the tennis courts reference though

Since AAA hasn't been so receptive to "Glory and Gore" and CHR/Pop are skipping over it altogether, "Tennis Court" seems to be the fourth single from Pure Heroine on the AAA format, at least.
Top 50 on AAA:
65 50 LORDE Tennis Court 56 38 18 0.124
