This is a pop song. It does not belong on the Alternative charts. Thank God it is only going to AAA, which isn't even a "rock" format. Fuck Billboard for using Triple A data in Rock Songs.

How is AAA not a rock format? It often has a lot of the more traditional and career-rock acts as well as the acoustic and folk side, which are arguably rock genres.

Ehh, I consider AAA to be the gap between Alternative (which might not even be a "rock" format these days) and Pop. You got pop songs like "Happy", "The Man", "Girls Chase Boys" and OneRepublic mixed in with songs by veteran rock acts like Springsteen and U2, along with stereotypical AAA material like The Head and the Heart. While I wouldn't go so far as to call it a "pop" format, there is pop music on it.

There's pop on every format.
I used to consider it a hybrid of rock and country. Even though there's rarely any proper country on it, there has been some bluegrass and other extended genres based around singer/songwriters. It's definitely a hodgepodge format but it almost always came back to the more genuine, true-nature, rootsy method of music crafting. It's one of my favourites because of it's allowance of folk-influence acts that rarely ever get played anywhere else.
I don't think it's fair to link it to pop over any other genre or format because it happened to be the place where some acts who later saw pop success like Adele or fun originated.

Not to mention AAA gives artists like Frank Turner, The 1975 and The Unlikely Candidates a place to score top tens even if Alt isn't fully embracing them (which they should, by now).

I don't even listen to AAA. I hope Tennis Court goes to Alt eventually, though.

Here's to hoping the two songs cannibalize each other.

Surprising to all of you I'd assume, I actually grew to really like Lorde's music over the last few months and think this is probably the best song on her album. However, listening to her entire album for me straight through is a bit of struggle. I can only take music like hers in small doses I guess.
5-10 years ago, I would have said her music belongs nowhere near Alternative mixed in with bands like Staind and Mudvayne, but now since Alternative is 80% indie/pop, it makes sense. Not that I really want to state that or agree with the way the current state of Alternative is, but that's where we are unfortunately at the moment with music.

Glory & Gore isn't going to hit #1 on Alt this time around, regardless if it can bounce back out to a triple digit bullet. If Tennis Court starts to catch on, hopefully they'll both steal spins from each other and neither hits Top 10.

Much superior to G&G. Definitely my favorite Lorde song.

I like it. For me, Lorde has been one of the few bright spots of the indie era. I wouldn't call her indie tho I actually agree with you on that. To me, her album is a straight up pop album (with some rap and rock influence) and me liking it is in line with other girl pop that I like. That being said, her success on alt is definitely a by-product of the current climate if you ask me.

I don't hear a rock influence. What about in the previous singles? I hear lots of hip-hop beats, but not rock.

It's more to the tune of ALT/Indie Pop. That's probobly the reason it breaks into Alt/Rock charts. She isn't straight out pop. Leave that tag for Katy Perry and Pink. "Tennis Court" is catchy, but It's never been a crime to include catchy rythmic songs on the alt charts. It's been like that since 80's New Wave. Alternative songs are actually sounding better now adays thanks to the indie pop/rock movement. At least that's my opinion.

Also, what constitutes "straight-up pop"? There's lots of things that could classify as pop, as Lorde is one of them.

Lol, yeah, I agree that Alternative does NOT sound better thanks to indie pop (It's mostly indie pop, most indie Rock isn't even doing well).
As for this song, this isn't horrible, but the chorus is kind of irritating. I just don't know why she's the artist to get four Alternative Top 20s when pretty much every other artist struggles to get two or three.
