Is Pharrell really in danger of losing #1 in sales so soon? That iTunes chart shows a 23% drop this week but last week had the Oscar boost. AOM is still at 0.6 on kworb.

13 songs in the top 20 all losing AI Yet, the entire top 5 is gaining somehow... Is Pharrell really in danger of losing #1 in sales so soon? That iTunes chart shows a 23% drop this week but last week had the Oscar boost. AOM is still at 0.6 on kworb. All of Me is gaining on Happy kworb. It was at 0.5540 32 hours ago .6057 now. It still has a long way to go, though, so I wouldn't bet on All of Me taking down Happy.

I don't think the audience has been recalibrated on media see since blurred lines but can anyone confirm? At least major changes that we would obviously notice.

Wayy off topic but the question just kinda floated in my mind, I Gotta Feeling was #1 for the year end in Canada in 2009 and then #10 for 2010, has any other song matched such a high year end peak (ruling out Candle in the Wind as it's sales were really just because so many people watched the event) apart from Just The Way You Are. Party Rock Anthem #2 of 2011 and #29 of 2012 (don't know if that counts)

Top 10 prediction:
1. Happy (this week the lead over the next song will shrink to a still very large 45% approximately) 2. Dark Horse (probably its last week in the top 2) 3. All of Me 4. Talk Dirty 5. Pompeii 6. Team (as much as I wish it could hit the top 5 I don't think it will do it...maybe next week) 7. Drunk in Love (streaming is keeping it in the top 10 for so long) 8. Counting Stars 9. The Man 10. Timber
Let It Go will fall to #11 and Best Day of My Life will rise to #12, maybe top 10 next week...lack of streaming is holding this song back (it's pretty much top 10 in sales and radio) and #selfie will probably be in the top 15 this week...I think it's headed for #10 :/
And it looks like an identical top 10 to last week's except for Let It Go falling out of the top ten from its #9 spot and The Man replacing it... 1-8 and 10 are exactly the same (even though I was hoping for Team to hit top 5, something Demons failed to do...and just like with Demons (held back by Royals) Team is being held back by a fellow alt rock song *gasp*)

"Happy" and "All of Me" are sucking up all of the airplay growth, hence the losses in the top 20. :)

Other than that, I can't think of anything remotely close.

13 songs in the top 20 all losing AI Because Happy and All Of Me are stealing them all. Thats radios fault. Radio is being lazy... instead of trying to break in something new they just overplay the two most popular songs. Eeeek! It's going to be one of those years. I wonder how much higher the streaming on these songs would be if radio wasn't overplaying them? Wouldn't that allow artists to make more money from streaming or is that radio's goal to try to kill off their competition by playing it super safe. I think that may be a miscalculation long term if they are tho. The less variety radio plays they less potential audience they can reach. It actually forces people to the Spotifys of the world.

Maybe radio hates certain songs so they play them every 15 minutes in an attempt to make people sick of those songs and so those songs would die out soon and stop being popular? LOL

Songwriters / artists get paid more for radio play than streaming. They want airplay

I'm sorry but i cant be mad at radio for playing the hell outta Happy! That song is literally perfect and evokes feelings. If radio is gonna play the hell outta song they picked the right one love hearing music on the radio, where were all you when Roar was smashing, didn't hear shit from y'all other than YASSS QUEEN. Well?

Well? It seems like rather than try to break a new song radio wants to keep the old ones going for as long as possible. Maybe there was a calculation made that playing the older material for longer is better for radio. I still think the radio impressions are overinflated in terms of actual audience reach. equalizermag.com/features/global-radio-audience-officially-restricted-to-commuters-stuck-in-traffic/Despite radio audience size going down the audience impressions continues to shoot up. hmmmm????

I think that may be a miscalculation long term if they are tho. The less variety radio plays they less potential audience they can reach. It actually forces people to the Spotifys of the world. It depends how you look at it though. To someone who listens to a wide variety of radio stations, and flicks through channels and what-not, then yes, it will probably seem overplayed to them. But for someone who listens mostly to just one or two stations (I think most people probably fall into this category), then it probably won't seem any more overplayed than any other big hit in high rotation. So what I'm trying to say is, I don't think it's that each radio station is playing the song more, it's that there's a huge range of different stations playing it. The stations that normally play Drake and A$AP Rocky are playing it, and also the stations that normally play OneRepublic and Michael Buble are playing it, which is why the airplay is so high.

It's a bit of both, actually. Looking at pop radio in particular, we're seeing songs now easily get 17,000+ weekly plays but what's happening is you've got 170+ stations playing them up to 100 times a week. So yeah the increased number of stations 'helps' but all of those stations have a rather high threshold of spins for power rotation. Six years ago it was a major feat to even break 10k, let alone 11k, and that was easily enough for #1. Nowadays that won't necessarily get you into the top 5, maybe even the top 10 depending on how airplay is being distributed.

I was actually going to make this point too. It's somewhat valid as it relates to Pharell. Given the fact that people listen to radio much less than say 10 years ago about half and the fact that of those people who listen to radio only 6% listen for the music.... yikes... I don't think 200 million + in radio airplay is valid. I think it's better to go with the streaming and the sales for the HOT 100.

www.billboard.com/articles/news/5937701/frozen-returns-to-no-1-on-billboard-200-for-sixth-weekOver on the Digital Songs chart, Pharrell's "Happy" is steady at No. 1, selling another 364,000 downloads (down 26 percent). The next two titles are both non-movers, as John Legend's "All of Me" ( 215,000; up 3 percent) and Jason Derulo's "Talk Dirty," featuring 2 Chainz ( 198,000; up 1 percent) are Nos. 2 and 3, respectively. "Talk Dirty" also crosses the 2 million sales mark this week (2.2 million), becoming Derulo's fourth song to do so. His biggest-selling song is "Whatcha Say," with 4 million sold. Katy Perry's "Dark Horse," featuring Juicy J, rides 5-4 with 165,000 (down 9 percent). The song jumps past the 4million sales threshold as well (4.1 million), marking Perry's seventh song to sell at least 4 million. Idina Menzel's "Let It Go" falls 4-5 with 122,000 (down 34 percent). The Chainsmokers' viral hit "#SELFIE" climbs 10-6 with 111,000 (up 26 percent). Bastille's "Pompeii" descends 6-7 with 106,000 (down 9 percent), Blacc's "The Man" is stationary at No. 8 with 97,000 (down 10 percent), and DJ Snake & Lil Jon's "Turn Down for What" jumps 15-9 with 83,000 (up 10 percent). It's the first top 10 for DJ Snake and the first for Lil Jon since his "Snap Yo Fingers" hit No. 9 in 2006. American Authors' "Best Day of My Life" also nets its first week in the top 10, stepping 11-10 with 82,000 (down 3 percent). Digital track sales this past week totaled 21.8 million downloads, down 5 percent compared with last week (23 million) and down 11 percent stacked next to the comparable week of 2013 (24.6 million). Year-to-date track sales are at 268.9 million, down 11 percent compared with the same total at this point last year (303.4 million).

I know I've mentioned Wake Me Up a lot lately, but I wouldn't be surprised to see it go back to the top 10 based on everything else falling.
