YOUR TOP 15: As the Frozen DVD flies out of stores by the millions, the soundtrack is set to rule next week’s chart with a total that will likely exceed twice what it sold last week. In the modern chart era, the Frozen soundtrack is well on its way to setting a record for the most units gained by a soundtrack in the week of the film’s home video release, increasing by more than 100k. Previously, The Lion King and Twilight were leaders with increases of 50-55k. Here’s how it looks headed into the weekend: 1 . Frozen (Walt Disney) 200-225k 2 . YG (CTE/Def Jam/IDJ) 55-60k 3 . Foster the People (Columbia) 55-60k 4 . Skrillex (Big Beat/Atlantic) 45-50k 5 . Pharrell Williams (Columbia) 30-35k 6 . The Pretty Reckless (Razor & Tie) 28-32k 7 . Rick Ross (Def Jam/IDJ) 25-28k 8 . Lorde (Lava/Republic) 21-24k 9 . Enrique Iglesias (Republic) 19-22k 10 . Now 49 (NOW) 19-22k 11 . Taking Back Sunday (Hopeless) 19-22k 12 . Luke Bryan (Capitol Nashville) 18-21k 13 . Eric Church (EMI Nashville) 16-18k 14 . Beyonce (Columbia) 16-18k 15 . Kevin Gates (Atlantic) 15-17k 16 . Aloe Blacc (XIX/Interscope) 15-17k 17 . Florida Georgia Line (Republic Nashville) 15-17k (3/20p)

Jesus. This could very well be the #1 album of the year. Adele and Taylor could be it's only competition.

LOOKING FORWARD: With this week's chart still building, here's a glimpse of what to expect from some key debuts on next week's chart, with the usual caveats about how the picture could change in the interim.
Foster the People (Columbia) 55-65 YG (CTE/Def Jam/IDJ) 45-55k Skrillex (Big Beat/Atlantic) 45-55k The Pretty Reckless (Razor & Tie) 30-35k
In other news of the future, Putin will annex Poland, prompting a very sternly worded letter from the State Department. (3/18p)

Looks like Frozen is headed towards 2 million scanned.
#1 album of the year? Too early to say that...

Early in the year, I suggested that Frozen could end up as the year's top seller. Every week, that's looking more and more possible, barring monster-selling release to come (i.e. perhaps if Adele releases an album before year's end). It's not likely that the album will just collapse in sales- it probably will see gradual declines from here on out after the home-video release.

^Which Adele probably will..
And Taylor Swift. Her last album sold close to 3 million before 2012 was up.

"Frozen" will also probably pass "Beyonce" as the #1 album on the year end Billboard Chart.

"Frozen" will also probably pass "Beyonce" as the #1 album on the year end Billboard Chart. Well, at least she won't have Taylor or Adele taking up too much of her time. Adele's album is coming out later in the year like Taylor so she might have time to outsell them. I'm here for Frozen being #1 though.

The DVD is going to be huge. The store I bought mine at today indicated they have been selling rapidly
This should carry Frozen(the music) for weeks. Then of course the Disney will eventually show it which should add momentum through the summer. Then there are the inevitable sing-along editions as well as other variations

Yes- Frozen will not be stepping aside easily to let any of the wannabe top sellers take the year-end crown.

Guess i'll have to see this movie cause I just don't understand. If you like the movie, you're gonna love the music. I thought its one of the best Disney movies in a long time. Very creative. I didn't get the music until after I saw the movie.

I really enjoy the song now. :) Film wise, I thought the movie was different from other Dsiney films, and the message of the story in the end was actually refreshing.

HELL FREEZES OVER: We assumed yesterday’s Blu-ray/DVD release of Frozen would further goose the momentum of the Disney soundtrack album, which was already the bestseller of the year; the question was how much the movie would boost album sales above this week’s chart-topping 96.6k. The answer—a lot, more than double, to be semi-precise, as in 200-225k, according to our midweek reads. Looks like we’ll be challenged to continue coming up with hot/cold metaphors for the forseeable future. A tip of the Mouseketeer cap to Ken Bunt and his animated staff. (3/19a)

I don't understand the fascination with the music from the movie. Maybe I need to see the movie.
But on their own, they're pretty mediocre to average on the whole.

I think the music is pretty amazing from the film and definitely one of Disney's best recently. But, I also heard it first in the movie so that is probably why I love it. I imagine Want To Build a Snowman would be sort of stupid if I didn't see the context behind it and how well-done and poignant that sequence is.

Wow! This will push it's 2014 sales to over 1.3 million! Week 7 is now locked, and I don't see any of next week's releases hitting 100k, assuming Frozen drops more than 50%.
Frozen could challenge The Lion King's 10 week reign at #1.

But so many people posting here how it didn't all work until they saw the movie. Once you see the movie, and see the way the songs are incorporated, it's all pretty much flawless. I couldn't help but think how much it seemed like an animated Wicked (i.e the sisters, the casting of Idina, the teenage girl target audience, etc...) It's going to be overkill having both shows running on Broadway when Frozen eventually happens.

YOUR NEW RELEASES: The top of next week's chart will, as we've repeatedly noted, be covered with snow. But let's take a look at how the week's debuts are likely to fare, with the usual caveats about early data, projections likely to be revised, yada yada. YG (CTE/Def Jam/IDJ) 60-65k Foster the People (Columbia) 50-55k Skrillex (Big Beat/Atlantic) 50-55k The Pretty Reckless (Razor & Tie) 30-35k Enrique Iglesias (Republic) 20-25k Taking Back Sunday (Hopeless) 20-25k Rend Collective (Integrity) 16-18k You're probably aware by now that The Pretty Reckless is a gothy alt-metal band fronted by Gossip Girl star Taylor Momsen. What is a Rend Collective, you ask? Why, a Northern Irish Christian experimental folk-rock worship band, of course. But is it the best Northern Irish Christian experimental folk-rock worship band? That's not for us to say. (3/19p)

None of the songs could even rank by Disney's standards and Disney is good at churning out those corny yet memorable ballads.

Enrique doing better than Kylie in the US too. (His single just sold more than hers in the UK).
