As promised, here's the news about "Lose Yourself." The hip-hop anthem tops the 6 million mark in digital sales this week.

It's plummeting on streaming, already peaked on radio (sooner than most of us expected) and sales (which is ironically usually the first one to go but in this case it's the last) will obviously start to fall soon...I give it 3 more weeks atop the Hot 100 (since it's still pretty far ahead of AOM on radio so it will take longer for AOM to catch up in airplay than it will be in sales, and it's already quite far ahead in streaming) There's no guarantee that AOM will catch up to "Happy" in either sales or airplay. It might or it might not. Keep in mind just how high "Happy"s sales were at their peak. And as far as airplay goes, I don't see AOM getting as high in airplay as Pharrell's song has. Which isn't to say that I think "Happy" will stay on top for a lot more weeks either; maybe 8 or 9 overall, possibly 10, but it definitely won't tie or beat "Blurred Lines" 12 weeks last year. Yeah, I'm really sad because it's pretty obvious now that Happy won't beat BL's AI record even though many of us were truly counting on it...and now that streaming is in the equation it won't be a One More Night-Gangnam Style issue where GS didn't reach the top due to poor airplay and since All of Me is (and this is probably permanent, unless a viral video for Happy is released which I think would be nice) way ahead of Happy in streaming, and I'm pretty sure it will get a #1 peak in sales as well as Happy is burning out in that aspect as well, then even if in the end it doesn't catch up to Happy in radio I think it will still get ahead in overall points in a few weeks time...think back to almost a year ago when Can't Hold Us failed to surpass Mirrors (despite doing better on the pop format, due to Mirrors's multi-format success outside of just Pop and Rhythmic) on radio but Can't Hold Us was the one that came out on top and was #1 for 5 weeks while Mirrors only peaked at #2 behind it (I know Mirrors ended up outlasting it on the Hot 100 in the end, but that's a separate case) |

Soko's "We Might Be Dead By Tomorrow" drops out of the top 10 after debuting last week at #9. You may recall that, despite that lofty Hot 100 bow, its digital sales were meager last week (Digital sales rank: #157, 10K). Amazingly, they dropped this week (Digital sales rank: below the top 200, 3K). Wow. I thought its top 10 Billboard placement would lead to greater awareness for the song. Seems it didn't. |

Chart Watch: After “Frozen,” Here Comes “Summer”Songs from "Frozen" are moving back up the Hot 100. In addition to Idina Menzel's "Let It Go," which leaps from #14 to #5 this week, Demi Lovato's version of the same song rebounds from #71 to #52 in its 17th week, "Do You Want To Build A Snowman?" by Kristen Bell, Agatha Lee, Monn & Katie Lopez rebounds from #79 to #62 in its 13th week and "For The First Time In Forever" by Kristen Bell & Idina Menzel rebounds from #85 to #65 in its 13th week. These three songs have climbed as high as #38, #55 and #57, respectively. The "Frozen" soundtrack tops The Billboard 200 for the seventh week this week and is assured of an eighth week on top next week. But the weather is bound to change. Calvin Harris' "Summer" is this week's top new entry at #69. It's the lead single from his upcoming fourth studio album. This is the second song titled "Summer" to crack the Hot 100. War took a song by that title to #7 in September 1976. War's song was released on the first day of summer (June 21), and was the second highest new entry on the chart dated July 10. Harris is trying to get a jump on the other likely summer-themed songs by releasing early in the spring. This week's big chart news is "Let It Go" leaping into the top five, where it joins another movie-derived smash, Pharrell Williams' "Happy." Billboard can't pick and choose which songs to let chart based on viral popularity- so, that wouldn't work.

The closest I think of is the Jonas Brothers' "A Little Bit Longer" dropping from #11, and I believe a T-Swift promo single did the same. Soko's song now holds the record from the biggest drop off (9-X). No other song has dropped off after charting within the top 10 the previous week. |

redseagulls, Jonas Brothers also debuted at #11 and fell off the Hot 100 after 1 week on 8/23/08 with "A Little Bit Longer"
(Erroneously not listed in the Wikipedia article)
