I think "Check Yes or No" is cute, but for some reason, my mind keeps conflating it with "Write This Down".
Come to think of it, I think I'll make King George my next Top/Bottom thread.

^ "Check Yes Or No" isn't as overrated as I think "I Cross My Heart" is, but its nowhere near my top 10 Strait songs.
Hey look at that, now there are two George singles I've admitted I'm not overly find of...

I'll be the oddball who loves "Check Yes or No." I will concede that the song has a ton of nostalgic value to me which probably colors my perspective. Come to think of it, I think I'll make King George my next Top/Bottom thread. Yikes, that's going to be a tough one to narrow down...

You know, it's funny - I can tell you exactly where I was and what I was doing the first time I heard "Check Yes or No" on the radio. (16 years old, standing on the desk in my bedroom dusting something, and I literally jumped off and ran to the living room to tell my mom George Strait had a new song out. She did not care.) I absolutely adored that song then. Now... it's possible that I'm just tired of it after 18 years, but it just feels so cutesy to me now.

The video for "Check Yes Or No" always bothered me because the little girl in the beginning is so much taller than the boy (Though I haven't seen it in forever, so I'm going on pure memory). But it's something that always stuck with me for some reason.

I remember that one of my mom's friends was a big fan of "Adalida", so we bought the CD and copied it to tape for her a bunch of times. Not one of his best lyrically, but I think it's a guilty pleasure because of the Cajun feel. Also, the line about étouffée is clever.
And thus begins and ends one of my only musical memories of 1995. 1995-96 just had so little musical memories for me, especially after the richness of 1990-94. Even 1997 seemed more memorable to me musically. And even 1998-2002 I at least had SOMETHING to say about what was out, even if most of it was garbage IMO.

But that day it was "mom! George Strait has a new song out! It's called "Check Yes or No!" and she said "that's nice, honey. Go finish cleaning your room." (I do not know why I remember this so clearly... but there you go.)

My parents are casual fans of '90s country and my uncle likes some stuff, but no one is anywhere near as passionate as I am.

My Mom (since she was a single mother and then remarried and now is raising two more children) never had time for music, she'd randomly pick one song she'd like every now and then. My Dad and I have more heated discussion of the same discussions seen here on Pulse haha. He's a Chase Rice guy, I'm not an that is our current feud lol. Much the same as y'all I'm known as the "country music guru" by my friends and family, they find it amazing when I DON'T recognize a song on the radio lol...little do they know I'm far from an expert.

My mom mostly only likes the country music I like. She has a few favorites of her own, but she mostly gets influenced by what I discover and share with her. My dad hated country music 95% of the time, except he loved the Dixie Chicks. I got away with playing a country song at his funeral by picking "Landslide" by the Chicks because it would've been the only country act that he would've liked played.

That one's not angry...that's what I don't like about the first two. I'll have to re-listen to "American Soldier", but I remember really disliking it at the time.

When you factor in the full title of Courtesy Of The Red, White, And Blue The ANGRY American, it's scary to begin with. The Lee Greenwood example I brought up is so jingoistic, it's scary. I still like it, though.

Took me a while but I found this old thread.
I was listening to Sirius/XM today and "When I Said I Do" came on. I forgot how much I disliked that song. I usually love most of Clint's output but not that one. Plus it brings back bad memories as a little kid cause it was always on the radio--and I didn't like it then either. The lyrics as a whole are cliche and nothingness to me, especially the chorus.
"When I said I do, I meant that I will. Til the end of all time. Be faithful and true, devoted to you. That's what I had in mind, when I said I do".
When I said I do, I meant that I will. Til the end of all time? Isn't that something you should have known already? That's the whole point of saying "I do" at your wedding. The priest says do you whoever take this man/women to cherish the rest of your life. Seems like you should have already known that's what saying those two words meant and that perhaps another song would have worked better at getting the message across. I understand that the song is special to Clint and his wife Lisa who helped out on vocals, but I never liked this one personally.

^Haha I'm glad I'm not the only one that dislikes "When I Said I Do." This song is just unlistenable to my ears. I get why it was popular, but wow what a corny and overplayed song. Clint has much, much better songs than this, such as "Spend My Time" which came just a few years after WISID but yet struggled to make it into the top 20. This song is still an instant radio changer for me.

I'll join those who loathe " When I Said I Do. " and " Breathe" Phill Vassar- The Hotub Song, American Child Rodney Atkins- These Are My People, Watching You, and Invisible are all dreck to my ears Sara Evans- Always Be My Baby, Perfect, Cheatin'- I've tried to like these, but I just can't Tim McGraw- Live Like You Were Dying, Last Dollar, and especially She's My Kinda Rain and Real Good Man, both of which I find unlistenable these days Rascal Flatts- Love You Out Loud, Stand, Skin, Life Is A Highway- I used to like/love all of these, but now I can't bear to hear them It's Your Love, Let's Make Love, I Need You- Tim and Faith

"God Must Have Spent A Little More Time On You" - Alabama f/N'Sync (Alabama singing a song with N'Sync. Need I say more) Just curious, would you have liked this song with only Alabama singing it? I actually like the song quite a bit with Randy singing it, I've always loved his voice. Also I know, NSYNC does mostly harmony on that song, but if you could have a version with just Alabama on it. Only version I liked of that song was the one of both of them. Have heard each do it 'solo', and didn't like either lol.

One to add to my list:
Canaan Smith - "Love You Like That"
Not a "huge" hit yet, as it's only top 20 after more than 30 weeks, and it has a decent shot to hit the top 10; but I despise this song. It's officially reached the turn it off when it comes on before it does reprehensible damage phase. It's unoriginal, cliche, and that "pretty city boy" line is brutal. Canaan's description of the song certainly didn't help me enjoy it either.

Now that you mention it, I hated all of Tim & Faith duets, especially the 90's.
I also loathe "This Kiss" by Faith.

The only Tim/Faith duet I particularly like is "I Need You," and "Meanwhile Back at Mama's", if you count that as a duet. The rest I can take or leave.
Edit: And "Like We Never Loved Before" isn't bad either. It's "Let's Make Love" and "It's Your Love" that strike me as extremely sappy, although I admit I can enjoy them occasionally if in the right mood.

Agreed on "Like We Never Loved At All", though I'm actually a pretty big fan of that song. "It's Your Love" is and has always been a station changer. If there's nothing else on the radio when it comes on, that's fine - I'd rather listen to the sound of my car engine and tires whistlin' down the road than be subjected to that song.

"Like We Never Loved At All" is the only one of their duets I never cared for, but it's been awhile since I've heard it so I don't remember it. I love all the others though, especially "I Need You." Faith's vocals on that song >>

I never disliked any of their duets lol but I understand why some wouldn't like em. How I'd rank them 01. I Need You 02. Like We Never Loved At All 03. Just To Hear You Say That You Love Me 04. Meanwhile Back At Mama's 05. It's Your Love 06. Let's Make Love Though I gotta say the best Faith Hill duet is either her one with George Strait or Shelby Lynne. :) (or "Let Me Let Go" if you count Vince Gill's backing vocal as a duet since it's more prominent than her vocal in "Meanwhile Back At Mama's" imo.)
