Lil Jon scores his first top 10 as a lead act since his "Snap Yo Fingers," featuring Paul and E-40, reached No. 7 in May 2006. He tallied his first top 10, "Get Low," with the East Size Boyz and featuring Ying Yang Twins, in 2003. "East Size Boys" And he forgot to put "Sean" before Paul, and then (of Youngbloodz). Just saying "as a lead act" really? I thought it was called "DJ Snake featuring Lil Jon"....featuring...FEATURING...FEATURING LIL JON...I'm pretty sure "featuring Lil Jon" means he's NOT a lead act...wtf...

music.yahoo.com/blogs/chart-watch/chart-watch-crank-pharrell-214404610.htmlChart Watch: Crank That, Pharrell By Paul Grein, Chart Watch Pharrell Williams's "Happy" tops the Hot 100 for the sixth week. That's the longest run at #1 for a song that an individual artist wrote, produced and performed all by himself, with no credited collaborators, since "Crank That (Soulja Boy)" by Soulja Boy Tell'em logged seven weeks at #1 in 2007. Since 1955, just one other song that meets this description has logged six or more weeks at #1. That's Alicia Keys' "Fallin'," which spent six weeks on top in 2001. There have been a few close calls. Gotye wrote and produced "Somebody That I Used To Know" (eight weeks on top in 2013), but employed a featured artist, Kimbra. Andre 3000 wrote, produced and performed OutKast's "Hey Ya!" (nine weeks on top in 2003-2004), but it was credited to the duo. "Happy" is the first song by a male solo artist (who wasn't part of a collaboration) to log six weeks on top since Bruno Mars' "Locked Out Of Heaven" in late 2012 and early 2013. Billboard's Gary Trust reports that "Happy" received 225.9 million "all-format audience impressions" this week. Only one song has attained more in the 23-year history of Billboard's Radio Songs chart. That's "Blurred Lines" by Robin Thicke featuring T.I. + Pharrell, which registered 228.9 million in its peak weak last August. ("Happy" gained about 7 million audiences impressions this week. Can it gain another 3 million next week? Stay tuned.) "Happy" tops 300K in digital sales for the seventh straight week. Only three other songs have achieved that feat. "Blurred Lines" leads the pack with 10 weeks at or above 300K. "Thrift Shop" by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis featuring Wanz is in second place, with eight weeks. "We Are Young" by fun. featuring Janelle Monae also had seven. This is the longest run at #1 on the Hot 100 for song that was nominated for an Oscar, but didn't win, since "Because You Loved Me" (from "Up Close And Personal"). Celine Dion's recording of that Diane Warren ballad had six weeks on top in 1996. If "Happy" spends one more week on top, it will be the longest run for an Oscar-nominated song that didn't win since "(Everything I Do) I Do It For You" (from Robin Hood: Prince Of Thieves). Bryan Adams' single had seven weeks on top in 1991. If it has three more weeks on top, it will tie "Endless Love" (from the movie of the same name). The smash single by Diana Ross & Lionel Richie Jr. had nine weeks on top. The record for most weeks at #1 for an Oscar-nominated that didn't win (since the introduction of Billboard's weekly charts in 1940) is held by "It Seems I Heard That Song Before" from "Youth On Parade." Harry James and his Orchestra's recording of that song, retitled "I've Heard That Song Before," had 13 weeks on top in 1943. (That song had the misfortune of being nominated in the same year as "White Christmas.") "Happy" also tops Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs for the eighth week. "Dark Horse" by Katy Perry featuring Juicy J holds at #3 for the second week. It becomes the second song (following "Happy") to sell 3 million copies in 2014. Idina Menzel's "Let It Go" holds at #5 for the second week. The song tops the 2 million mark in digital sales this week. It's only the third Oscar winner for Original Song to reach the 2 million mark in sales. It follows Eminem's "Lose Yourself" (6,019,000) and Adele's "Skyfall (2,183,000). Will "Happy" eventually top "Lose Yourself" in total digital sales? Place your bets. Trust reports that just 4% of the total Hot 100 points for "Let It Go" come from radio airplay. Sales accounts for 50%; streaming for 46%. Lorde's "Team" holds at #7 for the second week. Lorde this week becomes the first artist to sell 1 million copies of two different songs in 2014. She topped the 1 million mark with "Team" four weeks ago. As of this week, her 2013 smash "Royals" has sold 1 million copies in 2014. Aloe Blacc's "The Man" jumps from #9 to #8. This matches peak position of Elton John's 1971 classic "Your Song," from which Blacc picked up the hook phrase "hope you don't mind." This gives Elton John and lyricist Bernie Taupin their highest chart ranking since "Something About The Way You Look Tonight"/"Candle In The Wind 1997" wound up a 16-week run in the top five in January 1998. "Turn Down For What" by DJ Snake & Lil Jon jumps from #15 to #10. It's Lil Jon's ninth top 10 hit. Only one "Lil" artist has amassed more top 10 hits. Lil Wayne has had 18. Lil' Kim is next with five. Lil Jon scored his first top 10 hit, "Get Low," in 2003. It was credited to Lil Jon & The East Side Boyz featuring the Ying Yang Twins. He landed his biggest in 2004 as a featured artist (along with Ludacris) on Usher's monster hit "Yeah!." "Turn Down For What" jumps to #1 on the Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart, displacing "#Selfie" by the Chainsmokers. Here's a recap of this week's top 10 songs. The Top Five: Pharrell Williams's "Happy" holds at #1 for the sixth week in its 13th week on the chart. This is its ninth week in the top 10. Digital sales rank: #1 (321K) … John Legend's "All Of Me" holds at #2 for the second week in its 25th week on the chart. This is its sixth week in the top 10. Digital sales rank: #2 (226K) … "Dark Horse" by Katy Perry featuring Juicy J holds at #3 for the second week in its 28th week on the chart. This is its 13th week in the top 10. Digital sales rank: #5 (138K) … "Talk Dirty" by Jason Derulo featuring 2 Chainz holds at #4 for the fourth week in its 15th week on the chart. This is its 10th week in the top 10. Digital sales rank: #4 (161K) … Idina Menzel's "Let It Go" holds at #5 for the second week in its 18th week on the chart. This is its third week in the top 10. Digital sales rank: #3 (164K). The Second Five: Bastille's "Pompeii" holds at #6 for the second week in its 33rd week on the chart. This is its 10th week in the top 10. Digital sales rank: #8 (93K) … Lorde's "Team" holds at #7 for the second week in its 27th week on the chart. This is its 11th week in the top 10. Digital sales rank: #16 (62K) … Aloe Blacc's "The Man" jumps from #9 to #8 in its 14th week on the chart. This is its third week in the top 10. Digital sales rank: #6 (124K)…. OneRepublic's "Counting Stars" dips from #8 to #9 in its 41st week on the chart. This is its 23rd week in the top 10. Digital sales rank: #22 (56K) … "Turn Down For What" by DJ Snake & Lil Jon jumps from #15 to #10 in its 14th week on the chart. Digital sales rank: #7 (96K). It's DJ Snake's first top 10 hit; Lil Jon's ninth. "Drunk In Love" by Beyonce featuring Jay Z drops out of the top 10, ending an eight-week run. Two songs that are already listed in the top 10 on Hot Digital Songs are expected to move up on the Hot 100. "#Selfie" by the Chainsmokers drops from #7 to #9 on the digital chart (92K). "This Is How We Roll" by Florida Georgia Line featuring Luke Bryan holds at #10 for the second week (77K). Martin Garrix's "Animals" tops the 1 million mark in digital sales. The instrumental has climbed as high as #23 on the Hot 100. Miley Cyrus' "Adore You" also tops the 1 million mark. The song reached #21 on the Hot 100. This is Cyrus's 10th million-seller as a lead artist. It's her third from her current album, "Bangerz." To My Readers: Yahoo has restored the separate Chart Watch folder, so Chart Watch blogs are no longer just part of the Yahoo Music blog. I hope this makes it easier for you to find them. Also, I'll have a separate Chart Watch report on this week's key movers and debuts on the Hot 100 later today. I won't recap the top 10 in that second report. It will be fresh material.

As the Rock Era only started 3 years before the Hot 100, how would we feel if Billboard started measuring chart feats from that starting point, and retroactively granting the prevalent 'Best Sellers Chart' "Honorary Degree" Hot 100 status? I have no problem with it. But be aware, if this were to happen, Elvis would become much more prominent in chart statistics than he seems to be now.

That's why the Hot 100, by itself, is not always the be-all-end-all measure of an act's/track's success/popularity, whether it's because the chart only began in August 1958 or because of chart rules throughout the years. Back in the 1950s and 60s the technology didn't accurately track radio airplay and sales. So you could look at it from that standpoint as well.

And yet at the time that's all Billboard had available to them in gathering the weekly chart data, so regardless, that chart history should stand.

The CHR law of diminishing returns suggests that Katy - unless she changes it up more (a la Dark Horse) - can only keep going for so long with multiple #1s. But she does change it up. Her singles per era literally have different sounds: Roar, Uncle Deshawn Ali, Dark horse and Birthday sound nothing alike...nor do her future hits This is how we do and Legendary lover California gurls, teenage dream, fireworks, Last forgotten song, ET and The one that got away sound nothing alike either (And, while Capitol Records has yet to officially release a follow-up single to "Dark Horse," the third single from Perry's album "PRISM," the set's "Birthday" is approaching the Pop Songs radio airplay chart, with an average of 20 plays on the 10 reporting stations playing it.) That "Unconditionally" shade Uncle deshawn ali was a holiday buzz song ;) and buried by the saltiness of a couple individuals. Funny. Anyone know the sales total thus far for "Dark Horse"? like over 4M or around 5M...

I'll guess G.U.Y. Enters at around #20. It won't be anywhere near that. It got about 2M Vevo views, but it wasn't even in the top 50 on Spotify, and got low (below the top 100) sales and airplay. That isn't anywhere near enough for a top 20 debut.

Yes- chart compilers did the best they could, with the methodologies/technology that was available to them. Once BDS/SoundScan data became available, we saw some big differences for some tracks in the June-November 1991 period, in terms of where they were ranked on the Hot 100, and where they ranked on Top 40 Radio Monitor and POS Singles Sales. But, regardless, earlier chart info/stats are no less valid because chart methodologies weren't as proficient.

As the Rock Era only started 3 years before the Hot 100, how would we feel if Billboard started measuring chart feats from that starting point, and retroactively granting the prevalent 'Best Sellers Chart' "Honorary Degree" Hot 100 status? I'd be for doing that but only if it goes back to the start of the Best Sellers chart in 1940. They should either count them back to the start of that chart or don't count them at all. What sense does it make to stop at the rock era? Particularly when, at the start of the rock era in 1955, 95% of what charted wasn't rock -- so should we only count rock songs for that year? Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, Glenn Miller, and Perry Como could match or beat several Elvis chart stats. For example, if they're going to grant Elvis the 12 top ten singles he had on the Best Sellers chart prior to the Hot 100, then in all fairness they've also got to grant Nat King Cole, an artist who charted top ten singles five years into the Hot 100 era (as late as mid-1963), his 13 top tens from the Best Sellers chart, dating back to 1944. Why would it stop at the rock era? That would not be fair at all.
