Did Early Winter not chart? I believe that was a European only single.

Did Early Winter not chart? I believe that was a European only single. That is correct. "Now That You Got It" did so badly that it ended the era on this side of the Atlantic. I don't know if it scraped top 50 at Mediabase Pop or Rhythmic before disappearing.

I would love an entire album in the vein of Cool/Early Winter. The latter is my fave Gwen song ever.

Yeah I can appreciate how Gwen has always been pretty experimental, but it's always been either hit or huuuge miss with her in utilizing that formula and the hits are few and far between. I mean you get bops like "Hollaback Girl" and "What You Waiting For", but then you also get complete dumpster fires like "Spark The Flame", "Wind It Up", and "Slow Clap" so.... Oddly enough I feel like she is most consistent when it comes to balladish type songs which most likely don't naturally associate her with. I mean "Early Winter", "4 In The Morning", "Cool", "Used To Love You" etc are all very strong. This has been a consistent criticism of her from the internet for a while but yet her more "quirky" songs tend to perform better than her pop ballads. For example, "Hollaback Girl" and "Rich Girl" were big hits with crossover success and "Wind It Up" was a big digital seller enough to chart in the top 10 of Billboard's Hot 100. Everyone on the internet always says "Cool" is their favorite Gwen single yet it barely made the top 10 at Pop Radio, "4 in the Morning" flopped, and "Used to Love You" did well for someone her age but was far from a hit.

I wasn't referring commercial success, I was referencing quality in terms of her hitting or missing the mark. Even with commercial success, yes, she has struck gold with a few of her quirky songs, but even those haven't been stacked enough to justify her going with that route continuously IMO. I don't even find "Rich Girl" particularly quirky outside the sample which was different.

Iโd say let Gwen experiment with her soundโa little silly, a lot catchy, and identifiably quirky. I donโt want her to limit herself to pop ballads just because HAC hits would be age appropriate for her. Let her lead the foray of ageless pop musicians into Top 40.

Chart success is a fact and her going the pop ballad route ("Cool", "4 in the Morning", "Use to Love You") is not backed up by commercial success either. We can all agree "Hollaback Girl" was a monster of a hit and "Rich Girl" was big as well. "The Sweet Escape" was a huge hit and I could see an argument made either way that its quirky or falls in line more with a traditional pop song.

Whoever gave the ok to Now That You Got It as a single was a fool, Early Winter deserved Rich Girl is one of her worst songs ever imo Chile, this Rich Girl slander ain't it

Aren't 99% of the things on the forum outside of actual statistical data opinion-based? Still, thanks for the clarification. lol As I said, I never was referencing chart performance at all, but you do you. lol

I would argue "4 in the Morning"'s lackluster chart performance was such a let down after such a big hit like "The Sweet Escape" that the promotion of the album was effectively over then. They threw "Now That You Got It" out with little to no radio promo plus Gwen was on a world tour and didn't promote the single in the US.

It seems to have peaked at #65 at Mediabase Pop pulsemusic.proboards.com/thread/8151/gwen-stefani-got?page=14Yummy or Early Winter would have been much better single choices

The 100 Greatest Song Bridges of the 21st Century: Staff Picks
8. GWEN STEFANI, "HOLLABACK GIRL"How It Starts: "Let me hear you say, 'This s--t is bananas'" The Part You Definitely Remember: If -- for some reason? -- you didn't know how to spell "bananas" before this song came out, you definitely did after hearing it once: B-A-N-A-N-A-S. Why It Works: Before you even get to the bridge, the song's pep-rally inspiration is obvious, with its bleacher-stomping beat and high school marching band horns, so it's only appropriate that it also include a full-on cheerleader breakdown -- one with an instantly iconic spelling lesson. -- K.A.

Gwen is in the cover of the latest Paper Magazine issue. The album is still scheduled to be out sometime this year, although the tracklist and the album's title is currently undecided.

Not really a fan of the part of about politics. It sure sounds like she may have voted for Trump, and the fact that she doesn't speak out at all... on anything... certainly has been jarring.

Where did you get that from? In the interview with Paper Magazine she says something along the lines of it's obvious where she stands and goes into her Ska roots and anti-racism. I would like to see Gwen speak out more as well but it's not accurate to say she never does. She hosted a fundraiser with Michelle Obama in 2012, performed at The White House for President Obama in 2016, and has posted on social media in support of March for Our Lives (gun safety group) and Black Lives Matter. Ultimately, she's just not a political person and probably wants to avoid saying something that will be misrepresented in the media or by the Twittersphere.

She needs to get some space away from Blake Shelton and record some new songs for a new album. Enough of the Country music crap, show him who's the boss Gwen!

Where the hell is her new album? Being Mrs. Shelton should not be her full-time career.
