Interview with Gary Lightbody from Snow Patrol. CM: There was a crazy rumour that you might be working with Taylor Swift again? Is that jut a crazy rumour? GL: That is a crazy rumour. I worked on the last record a little bit but I didn't get the call this time. So, no, not me. She's working with Max Martin on this record I think pretty much exclusively. That's why he gets paid the big bucks you know, he's working with everybody.

Hopefully there are a couple of songs that will have a country vibe. Max Martin did do a killer job on Carrie's Quitter.

As long as we get more songs as good as "All too Well," I'm happy.

I am not expecting any country whatsoever on the upcoming Taylor Swift CD. I said so several months ago (can't find where I said it, but I know I did).

I'm expecting more songs in the vein of "Red," "All Too Well," and "Everything Has Changed." Are they pop? Are they country? Neither or both, they're just sitting on some random blurred line, but hot AC would play the hell out of them.

If she wants to be a full-on pop star and a glam bitch I don't see where the problem lies. It fits her 100% than pretending to be the plain white girl next door.

The 'Red' area should have gone like this.
01. We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together / Begin Again (Country) 02. I Knew You Were Trouble (Pop) 03. Red (Both) 04. All Too Well (Country) / 22 (Pop) 05. Come Back Be Here (Country) / Holy Ground (Pop)
So many songs that should/could have been singles. :'(

Taylor's singles strategy is correct. They could have also thrown out "State of Grace" to pop instead of "Holy Ground" if they so chose. Red had so much more potential at both formats. "Treacherous" could have been a country single as well.

I love Treacherous so fucking much.
I'm still kind of surprised they never tried Stay Stay Stay at country. I mean, it's probably the worst song on the album, but it was basically a guaranteed country hit.

"Treacherous" is on my shortlist of favorite songs ever. I love it to bits and pieces. Nothing safe is worth the drive is a perfect lyric.
I was shocked, too, that "Stay Stay Stay" never got thrown to country radio. I never had any disdain towards it like a lot of people did; I thought it was cute.

To be honest, their release strategy was on point IMO. For Pop anyway.
I would have done this
1) WANEGBT (pop)/ Red (country) 2) IKYWT (Pop) - no country single, Red would be riding high (peaking around the same time) 3. 22 (Pop) / Stay Stay Stay country 4. All Too Well (pop/country)
I know people here hate 22 but it truly is a Max Martin classic and a total jam.

I think if state of grace would had gone to radio it'd had need a radio edit :v.. Maybe it would loose some of the magic the song has

Album confirmed for October release according to Soundscan. It's on. Scott Borchetta said Taylor Swift is a fourth quarter artist, so that is continuing. Anyone bet she'll open up with a million in sales?

I'm sure Taylor would sell incredibly well no matter when her album is released, but it does just make sense to stick with the October release date given that she sells monumental amounts in the fourth quarter, so much that it basically doesn't matter if the album plummets after Christmas (which I hope doesn't happen). So excited!

SUBG, BOMT, IWITY, and the list goes on tower above it. If anything, it's typical/boring MM and that's why it flopped.

Lol @ "22" being a classic. It's not even a Taylor classic.
Looks like Taylor and Adele are poised to save the industry this Christmas.

The Red era went fine, actually more than fine, especially given the mid-level crossover success of the predecessor. The CHR strategy for the first 3 singles was on point, even with how 22 did. The only place where they dropped the ball was pushing only 2 (?) singles to country radio (not counting We Are Never...). Stay Stay Stay, I Almost Do, All Too Well (with an edit) would have done just fine.
I'm not upset about Max's large role in this. I loved the more pop direction on Red. Give me that Taylor over small town and dreaming of princesses Taylor any day.

October release sounds great. That would mean the Lead single would be out Early/Mid-August this year. Can't wait for the next Taylor album. :)
As for the "Red" era itself,It was a much bigger era worldwide than the "Speak Now" era was.Two Monster smash singles that did extremely well worldwide.Taylor finally got her first UK #1 album with this. Overall as a fan,I think the era got Taylor back on track on CHR/Pop radio after none of the "Speak Now" singles didn't go top ten. On initial listen,I thought "22" was the worst song on the album "Red",still have it in my bottom three of the album by far not her worst track although as that belongs to "Today Was A Fairytale".

What I meant by Max Martin classic is that it follows the patterns and build up of his songs to a T. It's a fun, sing-along track filled with hooks and sugary melodies that stick in your head for days. No I don't think it's one of his top songs, and no it may not be lyrically*~ up to Taylor's best tracks, but it's still a great track and made for a great single in my opinion, far better than any other song could have in Pop radio. Sucks that it's so underrated here.
Not hating on IKYWT as it's probably Taylor's signature song and one of my personal favorites but something tells me that it'll feel more dated than 22 as time passes because of its dubstep influences. It's actually been a year and IKYWT would probably sound dated on the radio if it were to be released as Taylor's first single off of this upcoming album, especially compared to what's on the radio now. 22 might not, and neither would WANEGBT, to be honest. They're kind of like Britney's early tracks. They've been out for 10+ years but still sound fresh because even though, while mostly non-threatening, slightly generic Pop tracks, never followed a trend.
Still though, IKYWT >>> 22 AND WANEGBT in every way possible. Just pointing out the fact that 22 isn't really the terrible track y'all make it out to be.
