To be honest, their release strategy was on point IMO. For Pop anyway. I would have done this 1) WANEGBT (pop)/ Red (country) 2) IKYWT (Pop) - no country single, Red would be riding high (peaking around the same time) 3. 22 (Pop) / Stay Stay Stay country 4. All Too Well (pop/country) I know people here hate 22 but it truly is a Max Martin classic and a total jam. In no way is 22 a Max Martin classic. SUBG, BOMT, IWITY, and the list goes on tower above it. If anything, it's typical/boring MM and that's why it flopped. What is IWITY?

'22' is flawless, and I will hear no objections. In no way is 22 a Max Martin classic. SUBG, BOMT, IWITY, and the list goes on tower above it. If anything, it's typical/boring MM and that's why it flopped. What is IWITY? 'I Want It That Way', I'm guessing.

Taylor wrote an article for the Wall Street Journal today about the current state of the music industry. Here are some of the most interesting bites.
What a queen.

My favorite part from Taylor's essay- Another theme I see fading into the gray is genre distinction. These days, nothing great you hear on the radio seems to come from just one musical influence. The wild, unpredictable fun in making music today is that anything goes. Pop sounds like hip hop; country sounds like rock; rock sounds like soul; and folk sounds like country—and to me, that's incredible progress. I want to make music that reflects all of my influences, and I think that in the coming decades the idea of genres will become less of a career-defining path and more of an organizational tool. Taylor's full essay here- online.wsj.com/articles/for-taylor-swift-the-future-of-music-is-a-love-story-1404763219

Fearless is probably eligible for 7xP.
The Taylor Swift Holiday Collection is eligible for 1xP.

It feels really weird that Red is at the bottom of her studio albums with its sales considering its impact, but I guess that proves just how big of an impact each of Taylor's albums have had.
As for the majority of the album being produced by Max Martin, I'm excited. I don't want an album full of WANEGBT or IKYWT. But really, as long as the music is good, who cares?

Her sales consistency is out of this world. First four albums all selling over four million? Wasn't the last person to do that, like, Eminem*? *not counting his irrelevant and forgotten debut, Infinite

Don't forget that the album market is in decline so a lot of the decrease could be owed to that. Also the singles from Red sold far more than the singles from the debut or Speak Now and nearly match those of Fearless. Wow @ "I Knew You Were Trouble" being so close to 5 million and "22" being so close to 2 million! It also looks like "Mean" has had fairly healthy sales over the past year.

To be fair, Red could have sold way more copies had they not dropped the ball for country radio.

A decade covers 10 years: currently, we're on the 5th year of the 2nd decade of the 21st century --> Taylor's (or any other artist's) sales for the decade thus far are being counted since 2010 which means that 90% of her first 2 albums' sales belong to the previous decade.

The 'Red' area should have gone like this. 01. We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together / Begin Again (Country) 02. I Knew You Were Trouble (Pop) 03. Red (Both) 04. All Too Well (Country) / 22 (Pop) 05. Come Back Be Here (Country) / Holy Ground (Pop) This would have been absolutely perfect. :'(

The era will begin soon I think. Love this announcement!! Taylor Swift, Coldplay, Usher to Play iHeartRadio Music Festival 2014 The fourth annual iHeartRadio Music Festival is shaping up to be a typically star-studded concert, featuring a litany of pop's biggest artists performing over the course of two days. Taylor Swift, Coldplay, Usher, Ariana Grande, Nicki Minaj, Mötley Crüe, Zac Brown Band, One Direction will all perform, as will Ed Sheeran, Paramore, Iggy Azalea, Eric Church, Lorde and Calvin Harris, among others. The festival's organizers are also promising special surprise guests at the event, which will take place at Las Vegas' MGM Grand Hotel and Casino on September 19th and 20th. The festival will also feature an iHeartRadio Music Festival Village in the lot across from Luxor Hotel and Casino featuring live performances by Iggy Azalea, Neon Trees, Kacey Musgraves, Childish Gambino, Magic!, the Pretty Reckless, Lil Jon and more. It will also include what organizers call "fan zones" and interactive experiences with brand partners. "Year after year the iHeartRadio Music Festival continues to deliver an unprecedented music experience for millions of fans nationwide," the festival's host, Ryan Seacrest, said in a statement. "I couldn't be more excited to be part of it. The adrenaline-pumping performances by pop stars and legendary artists alike, the never-seen-before collaborations, the energy of the fans and the artists, this is truly an event like no other." Tickets for the general public will go on sale on July 26th at 1 p.m. EST. Since the festival is a Clear Channel event, music fans who are unable to attend will be able to listen to a live broadcast of the event on Clear Channel stations in 150 cities or watch a live stream on Yahoo! Screen beginning each night at 10:30 p.m. EST. Fans can also watch a two-night special broadcast on the CW at 8 p.m. EST on September 29th and 30th.
