Thank God for Dan+Shay.
Can we have a new phase in country where they are the star?

With all due respect to Hunter and his grandmother, what's his reason for lackluster vocal performances everywhere else? I want to love him as an artist, and I do --- recorded. But live, he is consistently terrible. Although you may paint this as a slight toward him and/or his grandmother, it's not. It's solely a comment on his lackluster live vocals. He performs well at his own shows. At awards he gets way too nervous and his vocals go all over the place. I don't blame him for that because it has to be pretty unnerving performing in front of these people he looks up to. Try putting yourself in his shoes. I've seen him live and I agree, he is better at live concerts... But at his level, nerves cannot be an excuse, no matter the audience. And I do sing, I find nerves actually fuel performance quality. I obviously cannot compare myself to the performers tonight (although I'd like to think I'm better than some of these "singers"). In the very least, though, I do know what it is like to perform live...

Look, Hunter's def. talented, but even at the Blown Away Tour shows that I attended when he was opening for Carrie in '12 and '13, he wasn't good live. I like a lot of his music; he's just never proven himself to be a strong live vocalist at all. I still don't think he's done any worse than his Grammy performance this past January, though.
Anyways, I'm pretty sure they're saving the Miranda/Carrie collab for the closer, which is frustrating bc I've had to sit through this whole show thus far waiting for it. Also, I was getting pissed that Carrie and Mike have had 0 camera time this entire night, but after seeing this show, I wouldn't be surprised if they're drinking backstage so they don't have to watch this disaster. As a matter of fact, I'd applaud them.
ETA: Oh good we get to hear "Play It Again" bc I was really getting upset that we haven't heard the near 4-week #1 hit enough.

What about most of the other artists who do sound good in front of their peers? They have better control over their nerves. He does need to work on that, I'll admit. Hunter Hayes best live performance was when he was 4 with Hank Jr.

Yeah, they're saving Carrie/Miranda for the end... which sucks. "Somethin' Bad" would have made an excellent opener. But to close? Although it could fit right before Video of the Year... We'll see. Edit: Danielle Bradbury's face during Luke's performance... explains it all.

I sing too, and nerves only hit during rehearsals for me. Everyone is different though. I'm ready for Miranda and Carrie already. Also, they just showed Carrie and Mike. Is it me or is Luke drunk? Edit: Wow, Hillary looks really pretty! Loving that dress.

These are lyrics to Scotty McCreery's "Something More." He is 20 and wrote this song and understands what most fans way older than him want to hear. This sure as hell is what I want out Country music... By now I think I've heard every line There is to hear 'bout a truck And I've got the point that the beer tastes good When you're down on your luck But don't get me wrong a summer song Sounds good when you're on the shore But every now and then I wanna dig in And hear something that means something more Like a mama's love even when she don't approve Four generations sittin' on the same church pew A soldier's first steps back through his own front door Yeah, something that means something more It's amazing how this old guitar Can say so many things It can laugh, it can cry It can bring you fortune and fame But now as I'm sittin' down strummin' out these chords I'm praying that it's saying Something that means something more Like a long lost friend on the other end of the line A daddy's eyes when he holds his baby for the first time Grandpa goin' to meet Grandma and the Lord Yeah, something that means something more Saying "I do," puttin' that ring on Gettin' the news that the cancer's gone Knowing that man up on the cross in a crown of thorns Yeah, something that means something Oh, something that means something Something that means something more Something more This kid gets it. Awesome lyrics. If you want to listen to the saddest song, lyrically the best I have ever heard (that will obviously never see country radio) check out "Elephant" by Jason Isbell.

Is it me or is Luke drunk? If I was attending this show, I'd have to be, so I don't blame him if he is.* *He probably is.

I think Blake must be in the doghouse with Miranda tonight. Neither one of them look very happy with each other. Gossip aside, I love Miranda, but Carrie should have won that one.

If Carrie wins Video (fingers crossed), the award wins will be strikingly similar to last year, no?

Well, I'm glad I forgot I don't have CMT anymore and that I missed this since apparently it's terrible just like all the awards shows in country have gotten in the past 1-2 years. I'll just look up the winners and performances I want to see (the few that I do) later.

And Easton Corbin would be nice too. Don't forget Chris Stapleton, Brett Eldredge, Kacey Musgraves, and Chris Young! I grew up in a family of music lovers. I have heard all genres. We even have a little family ghostwrite of one of the worst 80's pop songs ever. With that being said. Outside of opera (where vocalists are far and away elite) Chris Stapleton, Freddie Mercury, Axl Rose and Al Green are the best vocalists I have heard. Sort them anyway you want. The problem is 3 are household names, 1 isn't. That's your country music of today.

Proud to say Stapleton is from my hometown and I've proudly wore my ball cap he signed for me until it's nearly faded (it was either put my favorite, coolest hat in storage or be able to wear it and let people know I had his autograph...I chose the latter lol.), he's amazing.

I didn't tune in until about an hour and 15 minutes into the show (I think) and I probably wouldn't have tuned in at all if it wasn't for Little Big Town performing. They did great and I loved it because of that, but was totally lost on the paint thing. Didn't care for that at all.
Florida Georgia Line need to go away...like yesterday. Yuck.
I agree that Hunter Hayes it not a good live singer. I can't stand his voice to begin with, and every award show he seems really off.
Miranda and Carrie's performance is on right now and it's really, really awesome. They sound phenomenal together and I love the song.
