The Voice’s Jake Worthington dominates the second half of the Top 10 with two of the five tracks belonging to him, the first of which is at #6 with “A Country Boy Can Survive,” A duet with Blake Shelton. music.yahoo.com/blogs/chart-watch/chart-watch-meet-iggy-azalea-211310608.html Chart Watch: Meet Iggy Azalea!By Paul Grein, Yahoo! Chart Watch As recently as a few months ago, few had heard of Iggy Azalea. This week, the 23-year old female rapper from Australia accomplishes something that nobody has done since the Beatles in early 1964—hold down the top two spots on the Hot 100 with his or her first two chart singles. "Fancy" (featuring Charli XCX) jumps from #2 to #1. Ariana Grande's "Problem," which features Azalea, jumps from #3 to #2. The Beatles held down #1 and #2 for six weeks in early 1964 with their first two Hot 100 entries, "I Want To Hold Your Hand" and "She Loves You." Broadening the discussion beyond initial chart hits, Azalea is the third female artist to hold down the top two spots simultaneously. R&B star Ashanti was the first female artist to achieve the feat. She scored in the spring of 2002 with her own smash "Foolish" and Fat Joe's "What's Luv?," on which she was featured. Mariah Carey scored in late summer 2005 with "We Belong Together" and "Shake It Off." "Fancy" is the first all-female collaboration to reach #1 on the Hot 100 since "Lady Marmalade" by Christina Aguilera, Lil' Kim, Mya & P!nk in 2001. Two other all-female collabos have reached #1: "No More Tears (Enough Is Enough)" by Barbra Streisand/Donna Summer (two weeks on top in 1979) and "The Boy Is Mine" by Brandy & Monica (13 weeks on top in 1998). Billboard's Gary Trust also notes that Azalea is the fourth solo female rapper to reach #1. She follows Lauryn Hill ("Doo Wop (That Thing)"), Lil Kim (the aforementioned "Lady Marmalade") and Shawnna (Ludacris's "Stand Up," on which she was featured). Azalea's new hit, "Work," jumps from #77 to #63 in its fourth week. Both "Fancy" and "Work" are featured on her debut album, The New Classic, which rebounds to #9 on The Billboard 200. "Fancy" also moves up to #1 on Hot Digital Songs, displacing "Problem." Azalea is the sixth artist to have back-to-back #1 hits on this chart (combining lead and featured credits). She follows Mariah Carey ("All I Want For Christmas Is You" and "Don't Forget About Us"), T.I. ("Whatever You Like" and "Live Your Life"), Beyonce ("If I Were A Boy" and "Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)") The Black Eyed Peas ("Boom Boom Pow" and "I Gotta Feeling") and Glee Cast ("Teenage Dream" and "Forget You"). "Problem" tops the 1 million mark in digital sales this week. "Fancy" reached that plateau last week. Azalea is just the third act to have two songs each sell 1 million or more copies so far this year. She follows Lorde ("Team" and "Royals") and Imagine Dragons ("Demons" and "Radioactive"). "Fancy" also moves up to #1 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs. Charli XCX, 21, is a singer/songwriter from England. She first cracked the top 10 last year as a featured artist on Icona Pop's "I Love It." "Turn Down For What" by DJ Snake & Lil Jon holds at #5 for the second week. The song is #1 on Hot Dance/Electronic Songs for the ninth week. It becomes the 10th song to sell 2 million copies in 2014. "Am I Wrong" by Nico & Vinz leaps from #17 to #8. Improbably, Nico & Vinz are the second Norwegian duo to crack the top 10 in less than a year. Ylvis reached #6 in October with "The Fox." Jason Derulo has two songs in the top 10 for the first time in his career. "Talk Dirty" (featuring 2 Chainz) holds at #7. "Wiggle" (featuring Snoop Dogg) leaps from #20 to #10. Here's a recap of this week's top 10 songs. The Top Five: "Fancy" by Iggy Azalea featuring Charli XCX jumps from #2 to #1 in its 12th week on the chart. This is its fifth week in the top 10. Digital sales rank: #1 (336K) … "Problem" by Ariana Grande featuring Iggy Azalea jumps from #3 to #2 in its fourth week on the chart. It has been in the top 10 the entire time. Digital sales rank: #2 (284K) … John Legend's "All Of Me" drops from #1 to #3 in its 33rd week on the chart. This is its 14th week in the top 10. Digital sales rank: #4 (147K) … Pharrell Williams's holds at #4 for the second week in its 21st week on the chart. This is its 17th week in the top 10. Digital sales rank: #6 (134K) … "Turn Down For What" by DJ Snake & Lil Jon holds at #5 for the second week in its 22nd week on the chart. This is its ninth week in the top 10. Digital sales rank: #5 (137K). The Second Five: "Dark Horse" by Katy Perry featuring Juicy J holds at #6 for the second week in its 36th week on the chart. This is its 21st week in the top 10. Digital sales rank: #30 (56K) … "Talk Dirty" by Jason Derulo featuring 2 Chainz holds at #7 for the second week in its 23rd week on the chart. This is its 18th week in the top 10. Digital sales rank: #21 (75K) … Nico & Vinz's "Am I Wrong" vaults from #17 to #8 in its sixth week on the chart. It's the duo's first top 10 hit. Digital sales rank: #3 (156K) … Justin Timberlake's "Not A Bad Thing" dips from #8 to #9 in its 13th week on the chart. This is its sixth week in the top 10. Digital sales rank: #27 (65K) … "Wiggle" by Jason Derulo featuring Snoop Dogg leaps from #20 to #10 in its fourth week on the chart. It's Derulo's fifth top 10 hit; Snoop's 11th. Digital sales rank: #7 (124K). Two songs drop out of the top 10 this week: "Love Never Felt So Good" by Michael Jackson & Justin Timberlake and Coldplay's "A Sky Full Of Stars." Let's keep an eye on three other songs that are already in the top 10 on Hot Digital Songs (but not yet on the Hot 100). Ed Sheeran's "Sing" jumps from #13 to #8 (114K). MAGIC!'s "Rude" jumps from #15 to #9 (112K). "Somethin' Bad," a duet by Miranda Lambert & Carrie Underwood, debuts at #10 (107K). Nicki Minaj's "Pills N Potions" enters the Hot 100 at #47. It's from her upcoming third studio album, The Pink Print. Each of Minaj's first two albums spawned a top five hit ("Super Bass" and "Starships," respectively). Lady Gaga's "Born This Way" tops the 4 million in digital sales this week. It's Gaga's fourth song to reach that threshold, following "Poker Face" (7,117,000), "Just Dance" (featuring Colby O'Donis, 6,911,000) and "Bad Romance" (5,503,000). "Born This Way" topped the Hot 100 for six weeks in 2011. The song's gay-friendly theme paved the way for "Same Love" by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis featuring Mary Lambert. Phillip Phillips's "Gone, Gone, Gone" tops the 2 million mark in digital sales this week. . "Home," his American Idol coronation song, has sold 5,099,000 copies, more than any song by an Idol alum. Phillips is just the fifth Idol contestant to release two songs that each sold 2 million copies. Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood have each hit that sales threshold with four songs. Daughtry and Jordin Sparks have also each done it with two. Phillips' achievement is all the more impressive because Idol isn't remotely the powerhouse it was in its early seasons. Clarkson, Underwood, Daughtry and Sparks all appeared in the show's first six seasons. The Charlie Daniels Band's 1979 classic "The Devil Went Down To Georgia" tops the 2 million mark in digital sales this week. It's the 48th country song to reach that plateau and by far the oldest. It just keeps on selling. You might say it's the "Don't Stop Believin'" of country songs, but it's even older than (by more than two years) than that Journey warhorse. Sam Smith's "Stay With Me" jumps to #1 on the U.K.'s Official Singles Chart. It's Smith's third #1; his second of 2014. He first topped the U.K. chart in June 2013 as the featured artist on Naughty Boy's "La La La." He scored on his own with "Money On My Mind" earlier this year. Smith is the first artist to land two #1 hits (as a lead artist) in the U.K. in 2014. "Stay With Me" leaped from #69 to #49 on last week's Hot 100.

Probably "Gangnam Style" again. Probably Happy, actually. Why would "Happy" get a 40%+ boost? Not saying it's not possible, but it's been on its way down, not up.

Billie Jean re-enters at 14 because of a viral video. Are you kidding me? Still PO'd about Let Her Go and Budweiser commercial - would've (and should've) been #1 based on that metric.

Michael Jackson's 'Billie Jean' Returns To Hot 100; Legend Lands 50th HitBy Gary Trust & Keith Caulfield, New York | May 28, 2014 5:44 PM EDT The late King of Pop's 1983 smash returns thanks to a viral video. Plus, 'Slave to the Rhythm' debuts, marking Jackson's milestone 50th Hot 100 hitA week after becoming the first artist to reach the Billboard Hot 100's top 10 in five different decades (and six including his work with the Jackson 5), as "Love Never Felt So Good," with Justin Timberlake zoomed 22-9, Michael Jackson makes news again, as his 1983 No. 1 "Billie Jean" returns. The song re-enters at No. 14 thanks to the popularity of a viral video featuring the track. Meanwhile, Jackson scores his milestone 50th Hot 100 hit, as "Slave to the Rhythm," from his new album "Xscape," debuts at No. 45. "Billie Jean" revisits the Hot 100 with 95 percent of its chart points from streaming. It debuts on the Streaming Songs chart at No. 2 thanks to the stylings of Brett Nichols, a junior at Pitman High School in Turlock, Calif. Nichols performed Jackson's iconic dance sequence from 1983's "Motown 25" TV special for his school's talent show, with the clip featuring the song's original audio. The video went viral and Jackson's classic bows on Streaming Songs with 11.2 million U.S. streams in the week ending May 25 (a 320 percent surge), according to Nielsen BDS. It debuts with 95 percent of its streams from YouTube (non-Vevo) activity. "Billie Jean," from "Thriller," the best-selling studio album of all time (it's been certified 29 times Platinum by to the RIAA), spent seven weeks at No. 1 on the Hot 100 in a 24-week run in 1983. It and 1991's "Black or White" mark the longest reigns of Jackson's 13 Hot 100 No. 1s, the most leaders among solo males. On Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, "Billie Jean" re-enters at No. 6. It spent nine weeks at No. 1 in 1983, passing "Rock With You" (six weeks, 1980) for his longest command on the genre tally. NIFTY FIFTY Jackson also earns his landmark 50th Hot 100 entry, as "Slave to the Rhythm" begins at No. 45. With 75 of its chart points from streaming, the song enters Streaming Songs at No. 11 (3.9 million, up 345 percent). Fifty-six percent of its streaming activity is owed to the official Vevo video of the much buzzed-about virtual Jackson performing the song at the Billboard Music Awards on May 18. Jackson becomes the 30th artist to collect at least 50 Hot 100 hits and the 20th solo male to earn the honor (tying Eminem's sum). Lil Wayne leads all male soloists with 121 entries, followed by Elvis Presley (108), James Brown (91), Jay Z (82) and Ray Charles (74). Among all acts, Lil Wayne trails only the cast of Fox's "Glee," which has made 207 Hot 100 visits. On Hot R&B/Hop-Hop Songs, "Slave" soars 38-12. Jackson also debuts at No. 50 with "Chicago." "Love Never Felt So Good" (which drops 9-16 on the Hot 100 dated June 7), "Slave" and "Chicago" are from Jackson's posthumous album "Xscape," which debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 dated May 31. It ranks at No. 3 this week with 67,000 copies sold (down 57 percent) in the U.S. in the week ending May 25, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Its two-week sales total stands at 224,000. REID'S WRITING 'RHYTHM' An additional feat regarding "Slave": The song marks a return to the Hot 100 for L.A. Reid as a songwriter after a nearly 20-year break. The current chairman and CEO of Epic Records co-wrote "Slave" with Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds, Kevin Roberson and Daryl Simmons. Reid co-wrote and co-produced numerous Hot 100 hits with Babyface in the '80s and early '90s for the likes of Whitney Houston, Toni Braxton, Boyz II Men and Bobby Brown. Reid eventually stepped back from writing in the early '90s, focusing on his then-role as co-president of LaFace Records. Until "Slave," Reid had last charted as a writer on the Oct. 29, 1994, Hot 100, when Braxton's "You Mean the World to Me" spent its final week on the chart. It had peaked at No. 7. "Slave" dates back to 1989, when Reid and Jackson collaborated in writing and recording sessions for what would become Jackson's 1991 album "Dangerous." "Slave" ultimately never was included on the set and sat unreleased until "Xscape." The original tune (produced by Reid and Babyface) was reworked and produced for its 2014 incarnation by Timbaland and Jerome "JRoc" Harmon. As an artist, Reid was a member of the Deele (with Babyface), which reached No. 4 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and No. 10 on the Hot 100 in 1988 with its sultry ballad "Two Occasions." www.billboard.com/articles/columns/chart-beat/6099413/michael-jackson-billie-jean-hot-100-return-xscape

Chart Watch: Miranda & Carrie Double Up"Somethin' Bad," a duet by the hottest female country singers who aren't named Taylor Swift, is this week's top new entry on the Hot 100 at #39. The official credit is Miranda Lambert Duet With Carrie Underwood. It's from Lambert's fifth major label studio album, Platinum, which is due June 3. The song enters Hot Digital Songs in the top 10 this week. Digital sales rank: #10 (107K). That rather stiff billing was also used on Underwood's 2011 hit "Remind Me," which was credited Brad Paisley (Duet With Carrie Underwood). Both Lambert and Underwood have had success with duets. As a member of Pistol Annies, Lambert was featured on Blake Shelton's "Boys 'Round Here," which reached #12 last year. Underwood paired with Randy Travis for "I Told You So" (#9 in 2009) and with Paisley for the aforementioned "Remind Me" (#17 in 2011). This week's big chart news is Iggy Azalea becoming the first artist since 1964 to hold down the top two spots on the Hot 100 with his or her first two chart hits. I covered this, and the rest of the top 10 action, in a Chart Watch blog that we posted Wednesday. If you missed it, here's a link. This blog is a look at key movers and debuts below the top 10. Paramore's "Ain't It Fun" rebounds from #12 to #11 in its 13th week. The song reached #10 two weeks ago … Ed Sheeran's "Sing" jumps from #16 to #13 in its seventh week. This is its highest ranking to date. Digital sales rank: #8 (114K). Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean" re-enters the chart at #14. This is the song's first appearance on the Hot 100 since 1983. The classic logged seven weeks at #1 that year and received a Grammy nomination for Song of the Year. Jackson has two other songs in this week's top 50 (seems like old times). "Love Never Felt So Good," his collabo with Justin Timberlake, drops from #9 to #16 in its fourth week. "Slave To The Rhythm" is the week's second highest new entry at #45. It's the second Hot 100 single from Xscape.MAGIC!'s "Rude" jumps from #28 to #15 in its fifth week. The charming, reggae-shaded song is a candidate for Song of the Summer. Digital sales rank: #9 (112K) … Katy Perry's "Birthday" jumps from #23 to #17 in its seventh week … Luke Bryan's "Play It Again" rebounds from #21 to #18 in its 11th week. The song has already climbed as high as #14. The song is #1 on Hot Country Songs for the seventh week. 5 Seconds Of Summer's "She Looks So Perfect" jumps from #32 to #27 in its eighth week … "Latch" by Disclosure featuring Sam Smith jumps from #36 to #29 in its 10th week … Smith has two songs of his own on the chart. "Stay With Me" leaps from #49 to #31 in its seventh week. "Leave Your Lover" debuts at #92. Both of Smith's songs are from his debut album, In The Lonely Hour, which is due May 26. OneRepublic lands its eighth top 40 hit as "Love Runs Out" leaps from #69 to #34 in its third week. It's still ranked below the group's monster hit "Counting Stars," which drops from #24 to #26 in its 49th week … Jake Owen lands his second top 40 hit as the mellow "Beachin'" jumps from #44 to #37 in its ninth week. His only previous top 40 hit was "Barefoot Blue Jean Night," which reached #21 in 2011. Nicki Minaj's "Pills N Potions" debuts at #47. It's from her upcoming third studio album, The Pink Print. Each of Minaj's first two albums spawned a top five hit ("Super Bass" and "Starships," respectively). Minaj has also amassed six top 10 hits as a featured artist—Trey Songz's "Bottoms Up," Drake's "Make Me Proud," Big Sean's "Dance A$$," David Guetta's "Turn Me On," Madonna's "Give Me All Your Luvin'" and Justin Bieber's "Beauty And A Beat." Plus, she was featured on two other top 10 hits that I'm not counting toward her top 10 tally: Young Money's "BedRock" (where she wasn't given an individual credit) and Britney Spears's "Till The World Ends" (where she was featured only on "The Femme Fatale Remix.") Sia's "Chandelier" jumps from #62 to #48 in its third week … Justin Moore's "Lettin' The Night Roll" jumps from #64 to #55 in its 14th week … Iggy Azalea's "Work" jumps from #77 to #63 in is fourth week ... "Somebody That I Used To Know" by Christina Grimmie & Adam Levine debuts at #66. The original by Gotye featuring Kimbra logged eight weeks at #1 in 2012 and won a Grammy for Record of the Year. Grimmie's version of Elvis's 1962 hit "Can't Help Falling In Love" debuts at #74. Grimmie finished third on Season 6 of The Voice. Phillip Phillips's "Raging Fire" jumps from #88 to #70 in its sixth week. The song has already climbed as high as #58 … Lady Antebellum's "Bartender" debuts at #78 … Dierks Bentley's "Drunk On A Plane" jumps from #91 to #79 in its second week … Shakira's "Dare (La La La) debuts at #95. It's the third Hot 100 single from Shakira … Lorde's "Tennis Court" re-enters the chart at #98. The song has already climbed as high as #71. "We Are One (Ole Ola)" by Pitbull featuring Jennifer Lopez & Claudia Leitte re-enters the chart at #99. It has already climbed as high as #88. The festive song is the Official 2014 FIFA World Cup Song. The international men's soccer competition will be held in Brazil from June 12 to July 13. Pit and J.Lo have collaborated on three previous chart hits, most notably "On The Floor." The official song from the 2010 World Cup tournament was "Waka Waka (This Time For Africa)" by Shakira featuring Freshlyground. The song reached #38 in July 2010

It's the second Hot 100 single from Xscape. MAGIC!'s "Rude" jumps from #28 to #15 in its fifth week. The song reached #38 in July 2010.

Paramore just outside the top 10 this week! Hopefully it'll get back in next week and maybe even get a new peak.

Not to take anything away from Iggy, cuz I like her and she's killing it, but I don't think Problem is one of her first two singles. But that's just my opinion that doesn't matter, lol.

Billie Jean at 14 is such a joke. Why doesn't billboard just turn the hot 100 over to YouTube and just like gangnam style be #1 for all eternity.

So where's the logic that Billie Jean 11MM viral streams and probably minimal sales and airplay ranks HIGHER than LNFSG, which has substantial sales and airplay. C'mon that's ridiculous. By that standard, I'd like to know how GS has not returned to the chart once.

I was wondering how many U.S. views that "Billie Jean" clip would have following that clip. Not surprised at the re-entry.

Are we seriously going to discuss this again? Get over it already. People have a right to complain about something over and over again if the problem is not being fixed. And it is a problem. Why should streaming for that video count? It is completely obvious that people watched that video because of the kid's dance moves, not because of the song. "Billie Jean" should not have re-entered this week. These random re-entries of old songs is getting ridiculous. Now had the video for "Billie Jean" got a sudden surge in streaming, then yeah, that would make sense, but that's not what happened. At least when artists create viral videos in the form of something like "Wrecking Ball," then people are searching out the video because of the song, and it works. "Wrecking Ball"'s digital sales surged the week of the video's release. "Billie Jean"'s sales? Nope.

Yea that's pretty stupid that song re-entered. But then they wouldn't let those Super Bowl commercials count either for Let Her Go.

Eh, not that I've seen the video but if it's a kid doing a dance routine of MJ's, surely that's related to the song?
lol at Sam Smith's iTunes #1 debuting at #92 (regardless of being an instant grat, it still got there). Nice debut for Somethin' Bad, I'd like to see it have a good run when country radio decides to play it someday.

By that standard, I'd like to know how GS has not returned to the chart once. That's actually a really good question... Maybe because they're afraid it would just bob in and out of the chart forever and forever?

Eh, not that I've seen the video but if it's a kid doing a dance routine of MJ's, surely that's related to the song? Not really. It's a video that contains a bunch of clips from some random high school's talent show, so it actually includes a few clips of different songs, but then it ends with about 2-2.5 minutes of some kid dancing to "Billie Jean" mimicking Michael Jackson's moves. He's very good at it and it is impressive, but everyone watched the video because the kid was good at dancing, not because of "Billie Jean." He could have been doing those moves to any song and people would still watch it.

Why don't we call a spade a spade and just say it.
LA Reid wanted the press this will give to Michael & Xscape. That's why the video counts for Billie Jean.

"Wrecking Ball"'s digital sales surged the week of the video's release. "Billie Jean"'s sales? Nope. I disagree completely. The Hot 100 is not a chart about popularity, but of commercial success. What matters is that the record label is making money off of the song. When a video featuring the song is watched, ad revenue goes to the label/artists/etc. This is the only way to make the Hot 100 make sense as a chart, it simply isn't feasible to measure the true popularity of a song. After a song is bought, people will listen to it many times after the week in which they bought it. If you want to measure popularity, you would have to count every single one of these plays as a part of the formula (ironically, this would slow down the chart even more, likely upsetting a lot of people on here). Then there is the issue illegal downloads, which are also a form of a song's popularity and are (for obvious reasons) ignored. If you look through all the things that are included and excluded on the Hot 100, there is a pattern. Things that are included on the Hot 100 make money each time they are bought/spun/streamed/etc. Everything that is excluded involves either no monetary transaction, or the label is paid up front (such as with commercials, which I suspect is why Let Her Go's commercial didn't count for the Hot 100).

So you're telling me that you think that the short clip of "Billie Jean" being used in that video gave the record company so much revenue that only 13 more songs earned more money for their record labels than it did last week? YouTube gives like, what, not even a full cent per stream? I do think the Hot 100 should reflect revenue. (Check my posting history, I've said it multiple times.) However, it doesn't even come close to doing that. The largest component of the Hot 100 is sales, correct? The component that gives the most revenue is in fact airplay, though.
