I thought of having a thread of posting interesting, or odd chart runs. You could also post old random charts or any fun facts relating to charts. :)
* I've mentioned before that "Brand New Girlfriend" by Steve Holy once dropped 7 spots from 43 to 50 with it's bullet (though barely). Of course it rebounded to make it to #1 in 36 weeks in 2006.
* "I'll Die Tryin'" by Lonestar and "No Shame" by Jeff Bates jumped up 9 and 6 spots respectively on the week ending 2/10/2006 chart to #39 and #40 because of a bunch of songs going recurrent. "I'll Die Tryin'" would lose it's bullet the following week and never recover, while Jeff's was able to hang around a few more weeks in the 40's before losing it's bullet for good.
* "Drugs Or Jesus" bounced around the #11-13 range for what seemed like forever on R&R before dying.
* "One Second Chance" by Jeff Bates peaked at #47 on R&R, while it's peak on Billboard was just #59!
* "Something Like A Broken Heart" had a jump from #34 to #31 without it's bullet in the spring of 2005, then would go recurrent two weeks later. It's peak on Billboard was #38.
* Both "Just Might (Make Me Believe)" and "Stand Back Up" debuted at #45 and #47 respectively in September of 2005. "Stand Back Up" would go no further than #47 though while "Just Might" went on to a #7 peak in early 2006.
* Aaron Tippin's "Come Friday" had a relatively fast climb up the charts to #37 then hit a brick wall and fell off. Same goes for "That Thang" by Fast Ryde in 2009 when it hit #41 on Mediabase and then hit a wall.
I'll save some for later...

Sara Evans' "Low" from the soundtrack to Billy: The Early Years was released on September 29, 2008 and debuted at #59 in October. It spent only one week on the chart, falling off the week after it debuted. It randomly managed to re-enter months later for the week dated January 24, 2009 where it again spent only one week on the chart (also at #59).

So "That Thang" got Top 40 on BB but not MB/R&R? How many other songs can claim that?
I already entioned the chart run for I Don't Love You Like That by Jypsi. It debuted at #46, hit Top 40 in its third week, and bounced out of the 40 three times before freefalling.
I know the chart run for "Missing You 2007" by John Waite/Alison Krauss was bizarre. Up and down, in the 40, out of the 40. It also peaked waaaaay higher on BB than MB, I think.

Sarah Buxton - Outside My Window 1183 41. Fast Ryde - That Thang 1113 42. Lady Antebellum - Need You Now 948 43. Lost Trailers - Country Folks (Livin' Loud) 835 It would drop 1 spot to #42 and two weeks later lose it's bullet and that was it for "That Thang" (thank goodness)

It pays to be the headliner:
1. Garth Brooks and Martina McBride were touring in 1993. Her My Baby Loves Me peaked at #2 behind his American Honky Tonk Bar Association.
2. Same thing with Brooks & Dunn and Jo Dee Messina. Her Heads Carolina, Tails California peaked at #2 behind their My Maria in 1996. They were touring together that year.

I know the chart run for "Missing You 2007" by John Waite/Alison Krauss was bizarre. Up and down, in the 40, out of the 40. It also peaked waaaaay higher on BB than MB, I think. "Missing You" spent all of February and early March bouncing from 43 to 40. It's peak on Billboard was #34. It's highest peak on Mediabase was #39. Though it was only 127 points from the #36 song that week which was Steve Holy's "Come On Rain". The #37 song was "Lucky Man" and the #38 song was "A Different World".

* Shania Twain's "Shoes" debuted at #42 on the week ending 9/9/2005 chart. It would however only spend 10 weeks on the R&R chart and peak at #29 in late October/Early November.
* "Wherever You Are" would surprisingly leapfrog Jason Aldean's "Why" on the 5/12/2006 chart from #4 to #1. "Why" would get to #1 next week. Looking back that was probably the first sign of Big Machine manipulation...
* "Billy's Got His Beer Goggles On" would sneak one week at #10 on the 11/11/2005 R&R chart. It would edge out "Big Blue Note" by 7 points. Neal's song would begin to fall after that.
* I remember "I'll Wait For You" having a rocky road up the chart. Early on it was stuck with a massive amount of brand new singles from established artist who all decided to release songs around the same time in August of 2006 ("Little Bit Of Life", "You'll Always Be My Baby", "The Woman In My Life", "Some People", "Finding My Way Back Home"). At one point it dropped 5 spots on Billboard from #29 to #34. But managed to hold steady and peak at #7 after 36 weeks.
* "Two Hearts" by Zona Jones had a weird run. It wondered through the 60's and the low 50's, then skyrocket one week to #48 on R&R for two weeks before losing it's bullet and disappearing.
* "River Of Love" had a major drop on Mediabase after hitting #1. It went from 1-7-14 before going recurrent. "It Just Comes Natural" would fall all the way to #11 in early 2007 before exiting.
* A bunch of songs went recurrent on Mediabase on the 8/18/2006 chart. This allowed many songs to have higher peaks than they looked like they have. "Ain't My Day To Care" (#39), "Tennessee Girl" (#42), "Cheapest Motel" (#45). In fact "Cheapest Motel" would only peak at #55 on Billboard.

I still think one of the most bizarre chart occurrences is Big & Rich spending five weeks at #11 with "Save a Horse (Ride a Cowboy)". That Top 10 was just brickwalled.
The Top 10 was also brickwalled pretty badly in summer 2005. I remember Faith Hill's "Mississippi Girl" zoomed into the Top 10 in something like four weeks, then took FOREVER to get to #1 before free-falling to #7.

Faith got to #1 on R&R for two unbulleted weeks after Toby lost his bullet and fell. But of course "Something More" was stuck at #2 for almost the entirety of "As Good As I Once Was'" run. Then "Play Something Country" got a weak #1 as well. I thought Sugarland would get shut out again by Rascal Flatts in late 2006 with "Want To". Luckily three times was a charm.

Didn't Joe Nichols' "Cool to Be a Fool" also fall five spaces at some point in the 30's before rebounding?

Didn't Joe Nichols' "Cool to Be a Fool" also fall five spaces at some point in the 30's before rebounding? I don't have the Billboard charts but I do have the R&R chart the week where I believe "Cool To Be A Fool" fell 4 or 5 spaces on Billboard. However it only dropped one spot (almost two) that week on R&R. Week Ending: 11/8/200328. Sara Evans - Perfect 29. Trace Adkins - Hot Mama 30. Craig Morgan - Every Friday Afternoon 31. Tim McGraw - Watch The Wind Blow By (jumps 3 spots) 32. Joe Nichols - Cool To Be A Fool (dropped 1 spot) 33. Alan Jackson - Remember When (jumps 7 spots) 34. Clint Black - Spend My Time (dropped 2 spots) 35. Ryan Tyler - Run Run Run 36. Blue County - Good Little Girls I'm assuming that there were a couple songs that were already recurrent on R&R but not yet on Billboard. Then I'm sure "Remember When's" audience was ahead of Joe's that week. My guess is "Cool To Be A Fool" sat at #35 that week from #30 or #31 the previous week.

9 year anniversary of one of my favorite songs of 2005 "Something Like A Broken Heart" peaking on R&R, so here's the chart week of May 27th, 2005 (songs #28 through #50).

John Corbett's "Good to Go" had a very odd beginning:
2/11/06: #48 2/18/06: #51 2/25/06: #53 3/4/06: #60 3/11/06: #43 3/18/06: #44 3/25/06: #48
It then spent the rest of its run bouncing around between #48-#52. I'm at a loss as to what happened those first five weeks. What caused it to slip all the way to #60, then zoom all the way up to #43 before playing dead?

^ Seems that the totally schizophrenic runs like that usually lead to higher Billboard than R&R/MB peaks. Same thing with "Missing You 2007", as mentioned upthread.

I found my chart week ending 7/15/2005, and at #46 was the debut and only chart appearance for "Our America" by Cowboy Troy with Big & Rich and Gretchen Wilson. I'm assuming that was because of the 4th Of July.
It's Billboard peak was #44 that week.
I think I might have heard it at some point but can't recall how it went. I believe it was just a spoken pledge of allegiance right?

^ Gotcha.
I knew there was something different about it. Interesting the songs below it, in terms of me really liking them.
47. Steve Holy - Go Home 48. Clint Black - Rainbow In The Rain 49. Aaron Tippin - Come Friday 50. Matt Jenkins - King Of The Castle
This was the beginning of the continuous singles that did next to nothing for Clint Black off his Drinkin' Songs and Other Logic album. "Code Of The West" followed by "Drinkin' Songs and other Logic", and "Heartaches". The title track was the only other one that charted other than "Rainbow In The Rain" (#44) as it peaked at #45 on R&R in February of 2006.

WATZ played all the singles off "Drinkin' Songs and Other Logic". I don't remember any of them doing much for me, although I thought it was a good title. The title track just scanned very awkwardly IMO.
Back to the original subject: how many songs have made Top 40 on Billboard but not R&R/Mediabase? I believe Fast Ryde's "That Thing" was #38 BB/#41 MB.

Oh boy, I have to go through my collection of charts to see. "That Thang" was a #41 peak on MB and #38 on Billboard. I will give you one from 2013 though. Chris Janson - "Better I Don't" Mediabase Peak: #41 Billboard Peak: #40 I'll check back later...

I believe we've covered this somewhere before (though not sure where), but I thought "Drugs Or Jesus" might have serious complications for his next single off Live Like You Were Dying. But "Do You Want Fries With That's" first few chart weeks on R&R went, 41-32-24-22-19-17. Then peaked at #4 in early September. "My Old Friend" had much the same chart run.
Though considering the fast paced climbs of the first two singles from the record, perhaps it had a little to do with his next few singles not being able to get to #1, in fact he had 4 straight top 5 singles since "Drugs Or Jesus" ("Do You Want Fries With That", "My Old Friend", "When The Stars Go Blue", "My Little Girl")
----------------------------------------------------------------------
"Our Song" jumping up 6 spots to land at #1 on the second to last normal chart week in December of 2007. The total audience was just 29.964 for "Our Song" and it only increased 2.8 million. Again, a really good number, but certainly most weeks would not be near enough to get a song from #6 to #1. Very soft chart that month, which sometimes happens after a long stay at #1 for a recent single like "Don't Blink".

^ The weirder thing was that when Taylor went 6-1, Carrie went 1-10 with "So Small". I believe "So Small" zoomed to #11 in only three weeks, fell back for a bit, then rebounded. I wonder if some of the chart flukes around that time were sort of a ripple effect caused by the shenanigans of "More Than a Memory".

I just realized that "More Than A Memory" spent 15 weeks in the top 10. Good God that's ridiculous. "So Small's" drastic fall was helped by "Don't Blink" being at #1 so long. By the time Kenny fell back, someone had to be #1 and Carrie was it. Then a freefall should be somewhat expected. It should be noted that she was just .090 away from being #9, just .631 from #8 and just .955 from being #7. Sara's "As If" was almost 3 million behind her in audience at #11.

* "Big Time" by Big & Rich had a rather anti-climatic end to it's run. Originally in February and March I thought for sure they would have their first top 10 on both charts and perhaps a shot at the top 5. Then it hit a wall at about #20 and went no further than #16 on R&R. One week it went from #18 to #21 with it's bullet as it posted a small gain. Right then I knew it was in trouble.
--------------------------------------------------
* I still am amazed how quickly "I Loved Her First" by Heartland rose to #1. I know the song was fantastic and it touched many listeners (it went 5 straight nights and got retired on WYRK's new country battle as it destroyed every song it went up against), but they were still a new group on Lofton Creek Records for God's sake. It's chart run on R&R/Mediabase was 53-55-45-41-36-34-31-26-21-20-15-12-9-8-6-3-2-2-1-2-4-recurrent. :o
Aside from that blip at the beginning, it looks like a Chesney or Paisley chart run.

Sara's "As If" was almost 3 million behind her in audience at #11. Still upset that this didn't even make the Top 10. It should've been a Number One hit, too. It was such a jam. :( * I still am amazed how quickly "I Loved Her First" by Heartland rose to #1. Guess everything was rectified after that though because then they bombed incredibly hard. Will definitely go down as one of the strangest flukes on the charts.

How high did "I Will Wait" get on Mediabase? I know it didn't make Top 40, even though it did on BB.

I should have included that in the made top 40 on Billboard but not MB post I had earlier. "I Will Wait" peaked at #44 on Mediabase. Mostly bounced around from #44 to #48 for a few weeks last spring before dying. It only got added to 21 total stations, in which case a #44 peak in 2013 on that little of stations is quite the accomplishment.

* "Letters From Home" missed #1 on R&R by just 11 points. Thank you to miss Gretchen Wilson. * "The Good Life" by Trent Willmon actually got spun on some Texas stations that caused it to chart for a good number of weeks in late 2004/early 2005 while "Home Sweet Holiday Inn" was doing it's official chart run. At one point "Home Sweet Holiday Inn" was at #42 (it's peak) and "The Good Life" was at #44 (all from unsolicited airplay) * Because of the long title the only featured artist other than Jimmy Buffet that was printed on the credits for "Hey Good Lookin' was Clint Black * "Free And Easy" by Dierks Bentley was #1 on the week ending 11/16/2007 Billboard chart by just .283 in audience over "Don't Blink". Kenny's song would hold for another week on Mediabase. * "New To This Town" by Kix Brooks would actually miss the top 30, peaking at #31 in June of 2012. Why is this hilarious? Because this was after Kix had cut his countdown show to the top 30 singles on Mediabase. So Kix couldn't even countdown his own song. If it was any other number it wouldn't have been as funny. It had to be #31.
