How high did "I Will Wait" get on Mediabase? I know it didn't make Top 40, even though it did on BB. Sorry, I forgot about the Mumford and Sons song. I should have included that in the made top 40 on Billboard but not MB post I had earlier. "I Will Wait" peaked at #44 on Mediabase. Mostly bounced around from #44 to #48 for a few weeks last spring before dying. It only got added to 21 total stations, in which case a #44 peak in 2013 on that little of stations is quite the accomplishment. #37 BB, #44 MB? That is a HUGE disparity. Wonder what caused it to get so much higher on BB? * "Letters From Home" missed #1 on R&R by just 11 points. Thank you to miss Gretchen Wilson. Martina McBride said that "My Baby Loves Me" was only three or four spins away from #1, although she didn't clarify which chart. I believe someone told me that "Happy Girl" also missed #1 by <10 spins in 1998.

^ " I Will Wait's" audience was super high on Billboard compared to other songs around it. "Forever" by Aaron Lewis was played 275 more times than "I Will Wait" yet it has less audience. Only being on 21 stations was just too much to overcome when it came to Mediabases points system.

"I'll Take That As A Yes (The Hot Tub Song)" did get to #10 on R&R in May of 2005. It's Billboard peak was just #17. That's the largest discrepancy I've seen that high up on the singles charts. Here's the R&R chart the week that Phil's song peaked. It was an unbulleted peak no less.

^ I didn't know "Homewrecker" was Number One hit. I knew it only peaked at #2 on Billboard, so I always just thought Gretchen's only chart-topper was "Redneck Woman."

Sorry, I thought I mentioned that. Probably something you should know about me by now. ;) Gretchen only got there by less than 300 points over Jo Dee that week. This would also be the final time she would hit the top 5.

Gary would go 5 straight nights before having to be retired.

I guess that's true, but I feel better if I admit it's insignificant. Now I'm feeling really nerdy... Heartland's "I Loved Her First" and "Big & Rich's "8th Of November" went 5 straight nights as well. "Easy Does It" by Hot Apple Pie lost by 1 vote to "Bring It On Home" by Little Big Town, and "If You're Going Through Hell (Before The Devil Even Knows)" by Rodney Atkins lost by 1 vote to "The Lucky One" by Faith Hill. ^ We all know who got the last laugh with that last one though. ;)

There was a nighttime show I would listen to about 9 years ago that did listener votes for singles. You could call in and vote on a scale of 1-99 for a new song. And on Friday, they would rank the highest voted song of the week. I remember that they did Honky Tonk Badonkadonk one night, and it ran the gamut. Half the callers were giving 1's, and the other were giving 99's. There was also a week where they ended with two 99's, but one of them had gotten a 98 vote, so the other one was declared the week's best song.
I also remember a station somewhere around Petoskey doing a song duel between Taylor Swift's "Our Song" vs. "The Pearl", the only release by Jeremy Boz. Surprisingly, it was only 64%/36% in Taylor's favor. (I voted for Jeremy.)

* On the Chart Week ending 5/11/2007 on Billboard, both "Settlin' by Sugarland and "Stand" by Rascal Flatts ended up with 35.066 in total audience. Literally there was a tie, though Sugarland were declared the #1 song of the week due to their increase of .224 in audience and Rascal Flatts who was the previous weeks #1 single lost .680 in audience, giving Sugarland the win.
Sugarland was also the #1 song on Mediabase that week, edging out Rascal Flatts by just 55 points which was one of the closets I've ever seen on MB.

Like I've said before, Steve Holy's "Brand New Girlfriend" on the R&R chart week ending 3/24/2006 dropped 7 spots to #50 with barely maintaining it's bullet. It's points went down by 15 but was barely able to gain in it's spins, keeping it's bullet. After that, the song would catch fire and get to #1 that September.
Week Ending: 3/24/2006
31 30. Gary Allan - Life Ain't Always Beautiful 30 31. Kenny Rogers - I Can't Unlove You 32 32. Rodney Atkins - If You're Going Through Hell (Before The Devil Even Knows) 33 33. Jamie O'Neal - I Love My Life 36 34. Little Big Town - Bring It On Home 34 35. Big & Rich - Never Mind Me 35 36. Eric Church - How Bout You - 37. Brad Paisley - The World 38 38. Billy Curington - Why, Why, Why 37 39. Trent Willmon - On Again Tonight 39 40. Jake Owen - Yee Haw - 41. Dixie Chicks - Now Ready To Make Nice 40 42. Josh Gracin - Favorite State Of Mind 50 43. Sugarland - Down In Mississippi (Up To No Good) 44 44. Neal McCoy - The Last Of A Dying Breed 42 45. Megan Mullins - Ain't What It Used To Be 46 46. Blaine Larsen - I Don't Know What She Said 41 47. Chris Cagle - Wal-Mart Parking Lot 45 48. Hank Williams Jr. and friends - That's How They Do It In Dixie 47 49. Carrie Underwood - Don't Forget To Remember Me 43 50. Steve Holy - Brand New Girlfriend
As you can see many songs lost spots from the previous week. Hardly any songs went recurrent, along with some debuts and fast rising songs. You combine the two and you have this scenario. Chris' "Wal-Mart Parking Lot" would lose 6 spots, but unlike Steve's, he did not recover and #41 would end up being his peak.

^I've said it before and I'll say it again, "Brand New Girlfriend" is one of my least favorite songs on country radio ever. It is certainly one of those songs that comes to mind right away. My ears have always found it rather gritting to listen to.

I'd love to see R&R charts from 1998-2002 or so. Their faster-dropping recurrent policies, vs. all the former Top 10 hits spending an eternity in the #15-#25 range on BB, must've surely made for massive discrepancies. I wouldn't be surprised if there were songs that peaked 10-15 slots higher on R&R than BB in that era.
Off the top of my head, I remember putting Crook & Chase's site into the Wayback machine and finding a chart that had "I Will Survive" by Wild Horses at #38 or #39, and it only got to #46 on BB. That was a really odd release IMO — it was off a multi-artist album for PBR, and I don't think the band ever put anything else out.
I also know that Kid Rock's "Single Father" was #40 R&R/#50 BB due almost entirely to one station that was on R&R's panel but not BB's having the song in heavy rotation. (This is the same reason that Garth Brooks' "Workin' for a Livin'" went something like 40-49-40 on BB near the tail end of its run — I believe BB at that point happened to add a station that was still playing the song heavily.)

^ One example was Monty Holmes single "Alone". It's R&R peak was #44 in 1998 while it's Billboard peak was #53.

In regards to some short chart runs, "Mockingbird" by Toby Keith with Krystal Keith lasted 7 bulleted weeks and just 9 weeks overall on Radio and Records from November 2004 to January 2005, with a peak of #22.
* "Rainbow Man" by Jeff Bates only spent 8 total weeks on the charts as well with a quick rise to #40 then took a bad updated week and never recovered.
* Jimmy Wayne's "Paper Angels" (though if you want to say this was a Christmas single and that's why if you want) spent just 7 bulleted weeks as well and 9 overall with a peak of #22 in late 2004. It's two unbulleted weeks were in 2005.

I remember discussing Jamey Johnson's second single "Rebelicious" with Kanenrá:ke. Well it never charted on Billboard but it did get to #57 on R&R in late May of 2006. Unfortunately it was only on 10 total monitored stations and only accumulated 184 total points. It certainly seems as if he was or not going to be with BNA much longer cause that was an epic bomb after a promising top 15 debut single.

Then came In Color, his only top ten and then he had to settle for the lower regions of the chart. Jamey Johnson should have been a huge country star and not just for his songwriting only.

* "Keg In The Closet" skyrocket to #6 in just seven weeks on R&R, then hit a brick wall and would go no further. What's odd is that it didn't have a high debut. It started in the 40's and had a consistent chart run that would indicate a #1 or #2 peak. It went 45-32-24-17-10-9-6-6-7-7-6-6-7-recurrent.
Kenny's next single "Who You'd Be Today" would debut at #30 and reach the top 10 in just 4 weeks. 30-18-12-8. It would peak at #2 thanks to "Better Life" and "Come A Little Closer". He was certainly the hottest star on the charts back then in terms of fast rising singles.

^ I think Keg fizzled out fast because they weren't pushing it hard. It was sort of a stopgap between "Anything but Mine" and the lead to his next album
And considering that "Anything but Mine" was a #1, I'm surprised that I NEVER hear it. Come to think of it, most of Kenny's #1's in the last 10 years seem to get swept under the rug quickly. I can't even remember how "The Boys of Fall" goes.

Rascal Flatts, Toby, and Sugarland were three of the biggest hits of the year and George was in the top 5 for a good portion of June and July as well. "Who You'd Be Today" was released in September, so there was a good two months between both singles.

^ The Top 10 was pretty crammed for most of the latter half of 2005 really. I remember Faith Hill zoomed into the Top 10 with Mississippi Girl, but it took her an eternity to wade through the Top 10 to #1, after which the song fell like a rock.

^ "Something More" was probably a bigger crime not getting to #1 for them than even "Baby Girl" was. Their audience and total R&R points were plenty good enough more weeks than not to get them the top spot. But nobody was moving Toby that summer. Faith's song just lucked out by some good timing, though she was able to wait it out, so I'll give her credit for that. She fell from 1 to 5 which was the biggest drop on R&R that year.
