Refer to the poll question for a clearer explanation of the question being asked; it unfortunately wouldn't fit in the thread title.
This has been a conversation before, and it used to be possible on Proboards v4 (posts in the Lounge didn't used to apply to your total post count until 2011, for example), but personally I don't like that my posts in the Games forum count towards my total post count. I know I'm not alone in that either, because it can lead to serious inflation. Additionally, posting in the Games forum doesn't contribute much of anything to the whole of the board.
Personally, I say no; but I'm just going to make this a conversation again.

In this heated debate I voted NO. Now the real question is do we even need post counts, I personally would like to do away with post counts and the "new" "gold" "platinum" status. I think it deters brand new members as people look at post count to decide if someones opinion is worthy (stupid but happens) . It pisses me off because AMONG many other reasons it keeps new members from here.

I've always thought this conversation was fucking stupid, because it implied that post counts actually mean something. There are much bigger issues on this board. But if we're gonna open *that* discussion again, why do posts in the "What Are You Listening To" thread count when you're just posting an album cover? I do think it's right to count posts in The Lounge because some of the best posts happen here, but I still think if we're gonna even have post counts, it should count everywhere, because even if people don't think the Games section "matters," it's still a post, and your post count isn't indicative of the quality of what your posting so much as it is how much time you waste on here. So I don't see why the Games section would be any different?

No just displaying likes without post count reduces the efficiency of your likes fuck that. I think joined dates, number of posts should only be visible to admins/mods, I just think for a new poster its always daunting making your real feelings/opinions known because they feel nobody listens or cares. I just think if those two things were removed it would cause less of "hierarchy" that someone new has to kinda overcome. I just want the board to be more new poster friendly and where everyone has a equal voice instead of silly things like joined date or # of posts or history be used as a tool to shut ppl up, you know?
Not everyone is bold.

We need *something* to tell who's who. When people completely change their profile it can get confusing.

I can totally see that and I agree, how about your initial user name being displayed as that identifier instead of the join, post? I'm just thinking of ways for inclusion and equalness so new posters (who arent dupes we seem to only get those) are more engaged and willing to spark up the place.

or just have the join, likes, post count in your main profile so everyone can still check to see when you joined and such just not in the main forum profile

IIRC likes can't even be shown on your mini-profile anways. They can be. They were when we initially rolled out the visibility of total likes. Additionally, I agree with what Kurt is trying to say. It's confusing when people change their profile as is, with or without post counts intact-- eliminating identifiers other than a name definitely highlights the importance of identity and recognition. At least for those posters that consider that important. I can see why having likes shown could be misleading as well (or encourage a hierarchy even moreso than having post counts shown would). I've always thought this conversation was f**king stupid, because it implied that post counts actually mean something. There are much bigger issues on this board. So I don't see why the Games section would be any different? I mean, it really doesn't matter either way (not much of anything does matter on this board at all, lol) but I personally see a clear distinction between a post in the games forum-- which otherwise contributes nothing to the rest of the board-- vs. just about anywhere else. That's just me though. /shrug It's more of an aesthetic preference and a suggestion really. Like you said yourself, it isn't that serious and it wasn't meant to be taken that seriously beyond a poll asking if anyone else agrees with the idea.

Like you said yourself, it isn't that serious and it wasn't meant to be taken that seriously beyond a poll asking if anyone else agrees with the idea. I understand your concept there, but a post is a post and you can't really take that away from anyone, and yes there are times where the game activity has ventured out of the games section of pulse such as here (Which I still laugh at looking back), just read pages 114-117 in this thread, linkYou may remember this as the time you were confused in the mafia cause there were like six of us with the same name & Zebra. myself, Rocky and popstop had the same name. But yeah we took this out to the lounge and it was hilarious (At least we though it was) & ended up liking posts so that it would look like somebody was getting 6 likes from the same person, but it was from six different accounts, :kii: That may have honestly been my fav moment there tbh. When you read through it, this may be hard to imagine, but imagine Lozzy, ry4n, Rocky, popstop, Zebra. and myself with the same picture, account name and signature, it just makes reading this funnier. The name was at the time, #howisitpossiblenotthinkofname or something like that, lol. So, my general point here is that we've done stuff there that has contributed to other parts of the board, maybe not in the biggest ways, but we have. Lol, this might not be much coming from me though since I'm a regular in that section, but if post counts didn't count there I'd be willing to accept it still, though I don't deem it necessary to have to do that.

It's funny for you, but it's annoying as hell for everyone else. No offense.
Additionally, yes, staff can block posts from counting in a specific forum and thus far the majority agrees that it should be instated. If the opposite were true, I wouldn't be that bothered; but like Ginger Spice said, post count really doesn't matter that much.

I'm not sure. I said yes, but that could be de to the bias that I post there a lot. It really doesn't matter, and I'm pretty sure I would still post even if they were removed, but I'm all for the post is a post. I feel like newer members could use it to get acquainted with how to posting (formatting, etc.) and could potentially build relationships with other posters. It doesn't matter either way though, and inflation is a very real thing that can result from posting there. So I can see why some would want it gone.

I don't think that posts in the Games thread should count so I voted no. I'm not in favor of getting rid of the post count altogether though.

The games forum is the only one I really post in commonly, and that's where all the people (besides Coco) know me from. Take away the games section from the posts, and it shows up that I would probably have 300-500 posts, and that is not accurate measure of how many posts I have. Plus, the games section is part of the forum, right?

Just to counter this point, it would encourage members to post outside of the games forum and really interact with the rest of the community (provided they want or value a higher post count). Imo, it would absolutely suck if the Games forum devolved into another country forum where they'd honestly be better off defecting and making their own forum altogether.

That's a valid point. I agree that Games posters do tend to be limited in other parts if the board and that we need to try to venture out. I know I'm starting to try to, but I can see how some may not.

I'm hella late on this, but I don't have a strong preference either way, nor do any of the other staff members who have weighed in on this in the admin forum. I'm perfectly cool with letting the results of this poll be the basis for our decision, so I went ahead and disabled post counts in the Games forum. If anyone strongly opposes this decision to the point where you feel like it will ruin your posting experience, feel free to keep a tally of the number of posts you make in the Games forum each month, send me a PM and I can manually adjust your post count if you really really want me to.
