Fred Bronson had a CHart Beat column online for awhile, but I'd say it;s been five years or so since he was let go from Billboard. They have an Ask Billboard section now, but it's not as entertaining as Fred Bronson was. :( I LOVED Fred's column. I credit him with really fostering my interest in charts back in, like, 2008.

I just heard Maps. It sounds pretty f**kin' cool!
& I am quite sure that Rude will be the next Hot 100 #1. Following in the steps of Call Me Maybe in becoming popular in the US months later but being more popular in the US than it was in Canada. Very obvious that it will out peak it's #6 peak in Canada (probably even as soon as this week as it's #2 on Digital songs and top 5 in on-demand and probably streaming while top 10 in airplay by tomorrow). It's funny because I live in Canada and I listened to this song for a week and liked it but got tired of it right away and now it's getting popular in the US so I'm starting to really like it again lol.

Dang! Problem probably won't make it to #1, but I'm still proud of what she accomplished with this song! Strong digital sales (almost 2M already!) Top 3 on overall radio (so far...) and #2 on pop radio (so far...) no to mention making top 10 on other genres too! :) And getting strong streaming numbers! And proving she's no one-hit wonder!
Anyways, I'm so glad this song was a smash! #legendariana4eva

Literally Payphone situation here where it debuted in the top three with monster first-week sales but failed to pass an even bigger monster hit song and didn't reach that deserved #1 (except that Payohone was blocked by more than one song) :'(

I don't understand why Chandelier isn't taking off at radio... I mean I don't understand a word she's saying in the song, but it's catchy all the same.

MAROON 5 – Maps: 20.415
Be ready 4-5M updates. (With a 10M update today, because it came on iTunes kinda late yesterday.) I've listened to it probably 50 times already, no joke. #NoLife

If you exclude the top three songs since they're going to crash by tomorrow, Maps is #4 on iTunes.

Most people don't care for songs on first listen, etc. But once radio plays a song over and over haters start liking it. That's why I wish there was a higher turn over rate in music airplay, so many songs out there that people would enjoy if radio would give them a chance.

If you exclude the top three songs since they're going to crash by tomorrow, Maps is #4 on iTunes. And if you exclude the top 7, because they're not by Maroon 5, "Maps" is #1. A-ma-zing.

Then by that logic Dark Horse is still #1 if you exclude the 42 songs that are above it

I wonder what other big releases will hit this summer. "Maps" is out of gate. Will Ed Sheeran be able to get another hit? "Sing" seemed destined to be a huge hit based on out-of-box sales and airplay, but just collapsed last week. Poor timing before album. Were scores bad?

I don't follow the logic behind "if you exclude..." then such and such a song has a higher position.
What is popular at the moment is what it is. What is popular tomorrow might be different.
You can make any list you want to by excluding anything that you want and have your own #1.

It looks like Fancy and Problem are starting to wane on sales, and Airplay wise Fancy looks like it's about to peak. I really thought it'd be #1 longer but it looks like Rude is going to take it much faster than I thought.

But like I said, you can manipulate it any way you like.

those songs aren't at No. 1 because people are buying them in droves, though. they shoot to No. 1 because everyone who has pre-ordered the album gets those pre-release songs automatically downloaded.

Yeah, they're not even really sales. They're automatically getting them for free just because they pre-ordered the album. It's not really the same thing.
