You know the songs. The ones that you can't usually find even on YouTube and can't just download off iTunes because they're out of print or something. Or maybe they never got put on an album.
* I have a rare early-80s album from Eddy Raven called Eyes that I bought mainly because a friend wanted it. He ripped it to MP3 and cleaned it up. There are some great songs on there. One of my favorites from it is "Dealin' with the Devil."
* The same friend is also a huge Steve Wariner fan, and he unearthed an early non-album single of his called "Forget Me Not". Steve recently sent out a re-recording of it. Either way, it's an amazing song. I'm a bit of a fan of his too, and I'd say it's one of my favorites.
* About 12 years ago, I found Western Flyer's second album at a dollar store. Most of the other albums at that store were cheap nobodies (Wilcox & Pardoe was another — a somewhat average Christian country duo with a few decent songs, including a version of "I Think About You" that predates Collin Raye's), so I was surprised to find that Western Flyer actually had a Top 40 hit with "What Will You Do with M-E?" Great song, that one.
* Lionel Cartwright had two songs for an unreleased fourth album: "Be My Angel" and "Standing on the Promises". I've found both. "Be My Angel" is a great Dan Seals co-write full of harmony, and "Standing on the Promises" is a sturdy anti-cheating song.
* Speaking of harmonies, the work of The Remingtons was good in that regard. "A Long Time Ago" takes a couple pokes at the members' former tenures in Bread and Cymarron, and "Wall Around Her Heart" has some wonderful arrangement of harmonies. "Two-Timin' Me" for some reason makes me think of our Subway right after it opened in 1992.
* Regina Regina's "More Than I Wanted to Know." I don't know why I like this song so much, but I just do. (For some reason, Giant Records as a whole tended to have really dated sounding production. I wonder if they just had bad engineers?)
* Jon Randall, "She Don't Believe in Fairy Tales". I once heard someone describe Jon's voice as "Vince Gill in too-tight pants", which amused me. Randall's lack of success continues to baffle me, but he does seem to have a lot of fans despite his sporadic output.
* 4 Runner, "That Was Him (This Is Now)". I found former lead singer Craig Morris on YouTube and he provided me with a few tracks from their unreleased second album, including this one. 4 Runner had great harmonies and songs, and it's a shame that label issues cut them off so quickly. (I also wrote a one hit wonder article on them, which Morris enjoyed.)

Great thread. * "King Of The Castle" and "Bad As I Want To" - Matt Jenkins (I got to thank a fellow pulser for these songs, but before that I was searching everywhere for them. Eventually an awesome uploader on YouTube put "Bad As I Want To" on there, but they did say it was harder than hell to locate, and I completely believe them. But "King Of The Castle" I tried to get back in the summer of 2005 and it wasn't available. I didn't think much of it cause I thought surely there would be plenty of time to get that song. Then 8 freakin' years went by with no luck. Finally I have it ) * "Ain't What It Used To Be" - Megan Mullins (why was this song never available on iTunes?) * "I'd Still Have You" - John Pierce (I think this was on iTunes at one point and it was possible to get this song on Amazon, but certainly not easy) * Good luck getting any of Carolina Rain's material as it's no longer on iTunes or spotify and only "Get Outta My Way" and "Isn't She" is on YouTube. Thank God I own their album, along with "Let's Get It On", "Louisiana Love", American Radio", and "Weight Of The World" which I downloaded right away when they were first released. * "The Middle Of Nowhere" - Brian McComas (thank to that fellow pulser again for this song. But his Back Up Again album is nowhere to be found now. Take my word for it, "All Comes Floodin' Down" is a fantastic song).

Seconding the good thread.
-"Somebody Else" by Pat Green, a Target-exclusive bonus track from Cannonball (Big & Rich also recorded this).
-"Damn Right I'm Gonna Miss You" by Brooks & Dunn, a Walmart-exclusive bonus track to Cowboy Town (I understand Terri Clark also recorded this).
-"If He Came Back Again" by the Highwayman, a bonus track on the anniversary edition of The Road Goes On Forever (probably not technically rare, but I want to mention it away).
-"The Ghost of Another Man", one of four bonus tracks on a 2000 CD reissue of George Jones' I Am What I Am.

A few rare songs I have:
* Jamie O'Neal - "Wanna Do Something Fun" [From her unreleased On My Way to You album.] * Jessica Andrews - "Didn't You Know How Much I Loved You" [From her unreleased Ain't That Life album. Later a hit for Kellie Pickler.] * Loretta Lynn - "Wouldn't It Be Great" [One of her forgotten '80s singles. It was later re-recorded with Tammy Wynette and Dolly Parton in 1993.] * Nikki Nelson - "Too Little Too Much" [The debut single from Highway 101's second lead singer. It only got to #62 on the charts and Columbia dropped her without a full album.] * Reba McEntire - "I'll Take Your Heart" [This is from a bonus CD that came with the If You See Him/If You See Her albums by Reba and Brooks & Dunn.] * Shania Twain - "This Man of Mine" [The original version of "Any Man of Mine" before it was completely re-written.] * SHeDAISY - "Mr. McLennen" [From their unreleased A Story to Tell album. Later recorded by Jann Arden with SHeDAISY on backing vocals.] * Suzy Bogguss - "Love Will Never Slip Away" [One of her first singles. The song only got #69 on the charts and was left off of her Somewhere Between album.] * Terri Clark - "Nashville Girls" (with Martina McBride, Reba McEntire, and Sara Evans) [From her unreleased My Next Life album.]

I have a lot of unreleased or obscure material. I love collecting it. "Getaway Car" was a great song for both 4 Runner and The Jenkins. I have both versions, and while I prefer 4 Runner's, the Jenkins' version is great too. Also have "Ain't What It Used to Be", which someone else mentioned. And "All Comes Floodin' Down" by Brian McComas. And John Pierce's "I'd Still Have You". And Heartland's "Mustache". For some reason, none of Heartland's post-I Loved Her First stuff is online except the music video for "Mustache". I think "Once a Woman Gets a Hold of Your Heart" is the most recent charting single that absolutely can't be found anywhere online. rsmatto has given me unreleased stuff before, like McHayes' entire debut album and James Wesley's first album as James Prosser, but I've lost the latter without ever listening to it.

I had tried to find James Wesley's first album as James Prosser once before but had no luck, would have liked to hear it someday
Martina McBride released a cover of Let It Be Me with her Timeless album that was only available to those who preordered the album on Itunes. I did not preorder that one so I never got it. Wish I could get another chance to get it. Same with For the Love of a Woman which was a bonus track on her Emotion album I think at KMart.
Did not know Jessica Andrews recorded Didn't You Know How Much I Loved You. Wish I could hear that one as well.

I cannot find the studio version of "Let It Be Me" ANYWHERE. Not even on YouTube! I am dying to find it someday, because she absolutely knocks the live version out of the park. As for "For The Love Of A Woman", it is listed as an international bonus track. So one day I decided to try searching for the album on Amazon UK, and lo and behold there it was, bonus track and all! Took a couple weeks to ship to me, but it was so worth it :) So if you're looking for it, try there!

I have heard the song before but it was really hard to listen to cause the audio wasn't good. It was on youtube once upon a time. her live performance of Let It Be Me was absolutely incredible and I am upset at myself for missing out on that song. Those are the only bonus songs I've ever missed out on from her. I do believe it was released on the Canadian version of Itunes which of course does me no good.

Somewhere I have David Nail's unreleased Mercury album from 2002. "Memphis" is a great song. His voice wasn't as strong back then, but it was still clear that he had good pipes.

Glad to see the mention of Regina Regina. I have their album, and I really do like it. Too bad "More Than I Wanted To Know" never really caught on. I also really liked their songs "Ticket Out Of Kansas" and "Border Town Road".

Carolina Rain "American Radio" Eric Paslay "If the Fish Don't Bite" has one good copy on youtube of a live version (otherwise impossible) It's such a shame that all of Carolina Rain's material is no longer available on iTunes or YouTube outside of "Get Outta My Way" and "Isn't She". As good as "American Radio" is, I actually think that "Weight Of The World" was even better and really had potential to become their first top 20 single if it wasn't for the label closing.

They were amazing. I remember getting the CD and actually getting a t-shirt when they came to Central Wisconsin. All the guys were awesome. Thought they could have been huge. Was surprised they went their separate ways after Equity went under. I know Rhean popped up a few years ago singing the feature on Colt Ford's "Chicken and Biscuits" (non-album version) but haven't no clue what Marvin or Jeremy are doing.
Remember people staring at me as I knew all the words to that entire CD and then some. Still feel, at least to me, "American Radio" and "Dealin" were my two favorites.

They are my favorite band over the past decade in the genre actually. Marvin and Jeremy I believe went back home to pursue other interest. Rhean has been on some YouTube videos singing with Katie Armiger. My favorite songs on their Weather The Storm album other than the singles were "The Man I've Been Looking For", "How It Should Be" and "Carolina Rain". The former was an outstanding song that was very well written. As much as I loved "Dealin'", I still feel "How It Should Be" would have done better at radio in 2007.

Sorry for this somewhat off-topic rant, but store-exclusive bonus tracks drive me nuts. I confess I'm pretty particular about getting the complete edition, and it seems that before I buy any album release nowadays I have to do some research online and make sure that Best Buy/Target/Cracker Barrel/etc. aren't offering exclusive tracks. And if you don't get it at release, be prepared for those copies to become rare collector's items down the road and are either impossible to find or go for an outrageous price online (cf. tinyurl.com/ogl4764 ). I understand the business strategy behind it, but I miss the days when an album was an album and it had the same tracks no matter from what store you bought it from.

Yes this is annoying, I've been looking for a copy of Sara Evans' 'Real Fine Place' with the target bonus tracks for a few years now and I've had no luck. :( (P.S. if anybody can help me there I'd be eternally grateful lol)

Didn't David Lee Murphy do other remixes of "Loco" in 2004? I have the "Muy Caliente" version, which iTunes says came from "The Loco Tapes — An iTunes Exclusive", but that no longer seems to be available.

I've never noticed on any of her other songs (granted I've heard only a couple and the only one that I really know is "Who I Am"), but she really sounds almost exactly like Jessica Simpson on this, at least on the verses. Reminds me a lot of Simpson's "Remember That" from her country project. And, on another note, Kellie Pickler definitely handled the song much better imo. I find Pickler's vocal performance much more moving and the production is just epic on her version (at least the re-recorded one that went to radio; I don't use the Small Town Girl original).

When Dale Earnhardt died in 2001, there were a lot of tribute cd's recorded. I bought a song called "Black #3," by a local singer named Jerry Alan Fitzgerald. Jerry was not a big time singer by any means, and he recorded the song on a small independent label that doesn't exist anymore. A music video was filmed, and he somehow managed to get it played a few times on GAC. That would never happen today.
It was a decent song and I enjoyed listening to it. Unfortunately, my cd started to deteriorate and doesn't play correctly anymore. I wish I had ripped it to my computer.

I have quite a collection of obscure songs that I have gathered over the years. In some cases I just like to have them because they're rare, but a few that I genuinely really like are...
The Kinleys - My Heart Is Still Beating Trick Pony - All My Rowdy Friends Trick Pony - If You Think You've Got Trouble Lorrie Morgan - The Heart That Jack Broke (From CMT Girls Night Out CD) Chely Wright & Brad Paisley - Hard To Be A Husband/Hard To Be A Wife (it's on iTunes but album only) Brooks & Dunn - Gotta Get Me One Of Those Reba - All Of You (a huge miss to not be included on a full length album!!) Deana Carter - (Bleep) Texas (I also have about 20 other Deana songs that have never been released on an album)
I had a collection of 10 Chely Wright songs never released on an album and no longer can find them. It's very frustrating!

I found McHayes' (Wade Hayes and Mark McClurg (Alan Jackson's fiddle player) unreleased CD "Lessons In Lonely" at a garage sale. It was a disc jockey copy but it was well worth it since it wasn't released to the general public. It is listed on the CD as an "advanced CD" and supposedly was in stores on July 29, 2003 which it never was.
Also found The Lost Trailers' CD "Welcome To The Woods" at the same garage sale as well and as far as I can tell it wasn't promoted that much. Was their version of Zac Brown Band's "Chicken Fried" ever on a CD?

Was their version of Zac Brown Band's "Chicken Fried" ever on a CD? No it wasn't. After Zac requested the song be pulled from radio, that was pretty much it for getting a copy of the Lost Trailers version. I'm sure there are some copies of the song floating around some places but it was never on an album. Welcome To The Woods was their album for Republic/Universal in 2004 that only had one official single that failed to chart ("Down In the Valley").
