Big & Rich's 2004 single, Save A Horse Ride A Cowboy should have hit the top ten so they would not have to wait until 2007 when Lost In This Moment became their ONLY top ten (#1).

Believe it or not that hit #7 on R&R back in 2004. I believe there were some songs that refused to leave the top 10 on BB that had already peaked and of course R&R had the two week grace period rule. Week Ending: 8/20/2004 (issued 8/16/2004) R&R 1. Tim McGraw - Live Like You Were Dying 2. Kenny Chesney - I Go Back 3. Brad Paisley w/Alison Krauss - Whiskey Lullaby 4. Keith Urban - Days Go By 5. Terri Clark - Girls Lie Too 6. Josh Gracin - I Want To Live 7. Big & Rich - Save A Horse (Ride A Cowboy) 8. Andy Griggs - She Thinks She Needs Me 9. Gretchen Wilson - Here For The Party 10. Alan Jackson - Too Much Of A Good Thing

After her "suspicious" rise to #1, she fell to #3 then to #8 the week prior to this one.

O.K.. Where's Reba McEntire's Somebody that interrupted the reign of Tim McGraw on the R&R chart? She just went recurrent. After her "suspicious" rise to #1, she fell to #3 then to #8 the week prior to this one. The Billboard dated for the 21st has her at #8. Is that what you're referring to?

Whops. R&R. In which case she went from #2 to #3, then to #8. Issue date: 8/16 - Recurrent Issue Date: 8/9 - #8 Issue Date: 8/2 - #3 Issue Date: 7/26 - #2 Reba was a BB only #1.

Too bad he could not get this to #1 at R&R (I know he didn't own MCA).

They certainly put quite the effort into that "push" ;) In her week she peaked at #2 on R&R, she increased 2206 points. That was the greatest gainer on the entire chart, and by a good margin too. The next closest point gainer was "I Want To Live" by Josh Gracin with just 1032 total points. Reba's song was roughly 30 weeks old. Nothing suspicious about that at all.

Highway 101's This Side Of Goodbye from 1990 should have hit the top ten so their first eleven singles would have hit that mark (going back to their first single, The Bed You Made For Me (1987-#4).

Gail Davies had a #11 hit in 1979 with Someone Is Looking For Someone Like You. Had that hit the top ten, the following would have happened: 1. She would have had top tens during the 1970s and 1980s. 2. She would have had top tens on two labels: Lifesong and Warner Bros.

Chely Wright will always be remembered as the artist who knocked Lonestar's Amazed from the top of the charts after their 'amazing' eight week stay there with her Single White Female from 1999 (too bad Jo Dee Messina can't say the same with her Lesson In Leavin'). Anyway, Wright's follow up, It Was from 2000 hit #11. She would have charted consecutive top tens for the ONLY time in her career and would have had top tens in the 1990s and 2000s.

Tracy Byrd's time at RCA would have started on a top ten note in 2000 had Put Your Hand In Mine got there. He only managed three top tens for the label: 1. Just Let Me Be In Love-2002-#9 2. Ten Rounds With Jose Cuervo-2002-#1-chart wise, his biggest hit 3. Drinkin' Bone-2004-#7

The tandem of Tammy Wynette and David Houston would have gone a two for two in top tens had their second duet, It's All Over reached that plateau in 1968. The previous year saw their My Elusive Dreams hit #1.

I know that these were both number 12 but I hate the fact that they didn't make the top ten "The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia" (Reba) and "Independence Day" (Martina's McBride).

Judging by how widely popular they are and considering how much recurrent play they've received; peaking outside the top 10 doesn't mean much. There are countless songs that peaked in the top 10, heck even went to #1 that are largely forgotten. While it stinks for avid chart watchers like us, in the end Martina and Reba got the last laugh on those songs. ;)

Well for me they should have at least been top 5's. They are played a lot though.

Johnny Horton would have seen Honky Tonk Man hit the top ten twice if the second version hit there in 1962. Originally, it was a #9 hit in 1956.

David Kersh would have had four consecutive top tens had Day In, Day Out hit there in 1997. His previous top tens were: Goodnight Sweetheart (#6 in 1996) and Another You (#3 in 1997). He followed up with If I Never Stop Loving You (#3 in 1998).

Martina McBride would have ended her RCA era (1991-2010) on a top ten note had Wrong Baby Wrong hit there in 2010.

Barbara Mandrell would have had ten consecutive top ten hits in her career for the ONLY time had Crossword Puzzle reached there in 1984. Her streak started in 1981 with her duet with George Jones, I Was Country When Country Wasn't Cool (#1 in 1981).

Forgot about "Still Holdin' On" by Clint and Martina. And looking up Clint's singles, noticed this was his first to not hit top 10 (according to Wikipedia...) Kinda surprised me. Were you surprised that Clint had as big a radio career as he had? He disappeared from radio too soon, but he had more than a decade of big success. And I'd like to add something about Still Holding On that is a memory of mine, but possibly an unreliable one. In addition to other people's reasons this song should have been a top 10, I remember that it was held to #11 by a dropping song -- was it It's Your Love by Tim and Faith? - I'm not sure what song it was. But this one would have slid into the top 10 for a week had not a song that was way past its peak, and didn't need that last top 10 week, edged the Clint/Martina song by a small amount. I don't have the charts anymore, but I've been enjoying reading this thread and am trying to contribute. My contribution might be fictional, though. I do remember being very disappointed that this song peaked at #11.

The other two songs that might have contributed were "Loved Too Much" by Ty Herndon and "I Only Get This Way With You" by Rick Trevino. All three were sent recurrent on R&R by the time Clint & Martina had their final peak week, which was #8 on R&R and #11 on Billboard.

Just for Zazie, sabre14, and everyone else. Here is the top twenty chart where Clint Black and Martina McBride peaked with Still Holding On. Ready?
BILLBOARD TOP TWENTY FOR WEEK ENDING AUGUST 9, 1997: 1. Carrying Your Love With Me-George Strait-MCA 2. I Left Something Turned On At Home-Trace Adkins-Capitol 3. Come Cryin' To Me-Lonestar-BNA 4. All The Good Ones Are Gone-Pam Tillis-Arista 5. How A Cowgirl Says Goodbye-Tracy Lawrence-Atlantic 6. How Do I Live-Trisha Yearwood-MCA 7. Drink, Swear, Steal & Lie-Michael Peterson-Reprise 8. She's Got It All-Kenny Chesney-BNA 9. It's Your Love-Tim McGraw and Faith Hill-Curb 10. I Only Get This Way With You-Rick Trevino-Columbia 11. STILL HOLDING ON-CLINT BLACK AND MARTINA MCBRIDE-RCA 12. We Were In Love-Toby Keith-Mercury 13. I'd Rather Ride Around With You-Reba McEntire-MCA 14. Dancin', Shaggin' On The Boulevard-Alabama-RCA 15. There Goes-Alan Jackson-Arista 16. How Was I To Know-John Michael Montgomery-Atlantic 17. How Your Love Makes Me Feel-Diamond Rio-Arista 18. He Left A Lot To Be Desired-Ricochet-Columbia 19. What The Heart Wants-Collin Raye-Epic 20. Don't Love Make A Diamond Shine-Tracy Byrd-MCA
First, Billboard gave Airpower status to titles #14-#19. Second, thank you Zazie for the comments. For sabre14, I do not see the Ty Herndon title in the top twenty in Billboard. I know that song peaked at #2 behind It's Your Love. Hope this was helpful!

The Glaser Brothers had a #11 hit in 1969 with California Girl And The Tennessee Square. Had that hit the top ten, they would have had top tens in the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s. They hit the top ten twice with Rings (#7 in 1971) and Lovin' Her Was Easier Than Anything I'll Ever Do Again (#2 in 1981).

Loretta Lynn would have had a top ten hit with her first duet partner, Ernest Tubb had Mr. And Mrs. Used To Be hit that plateau in 1964. She had to wait another seven years to score a top ten with her second duet partner, Conway Twitty with After The Fire Is Gone (1971).

Ronnie McDowell would have had a lucky stretch of thirteen consecutive top tens had I Just Cut Myself reached there in 1982. His streak started with Wandering Eyes (#2 in 1981) and ended with All Tied Up (#6 in 1986).

Third Rate Romance would have had reached the top ten twice had the original by The Amazing Rhythm Aces reached there in 1975. Sammy Kershaw turned it into a #2 hit in 1994.

Don't You Ever Get Tired Of Hurting Me would have been a top ten three times had the first two versions hit there in 1966 by Ray Price and 1981 as a duet with Price and Willie Nelson. It finally was a top ten hit for Ronnie Milsap in 1989 (#1).
