funny cuz One More Night was blocked by Gangnam Style here (7 weeks at #1 for that I believe) and Moves Like Jagger spent 10 weeks at #1 here iirc (blocking Someone Like You in the process) Yup, and Call Me Maybe blocked a lot of songs from #1 in the US, but because it peaked earlier in Canada, it also blocked Set Fire to the Rain from #1. #pooradele Yeah and in the US Lights was blocked from #1 for two weeks (first by CMM the jumped by Whistle), so if it was as big in Canada as in the US, since CMM had its steam months earlier, Lights could've probably hit #1 in Canada. Similarly, CMM blocked Glad You Came in Canada whereas GYC was already in the top 10 in the USA I believe, soon to peak, while CMM had just debuted and was still pretty far off from the top 10 during that same time. That gap in peaks between Canada and USA for the song really screwed over some songs on certain charts but really helped some too. "Rude" might end up doing the same thing although it peaked much lower than CMM in Canada and it will probably reach #1 on the Hot 100. Also, Kelly Clarkson's "Stronger" only peaked at #3 in Canada either due to being less popular here or aforementioned songs being more massive. We Are Young also got just one week at #1 around that time, vs. the six weeks it got in the USA. I did too notice the fact that Payphone and One More Night had opposite fates in Canada vs. USA and I had pondered it before it was mentioned here today lol.

I think that goes to show that charts are all about timing; since there's always going to be massive hits competing against each other. Just comes down to luck of taking off at the right time, I guess.

Is this the first time that every song in the top 5 of the Hot 100's primary artist is from a different country? 1. Australia 2. USA 3. Canada 4. Norway 5. UK Pretty cool imo (even if some of the songs themselves are not )

Pretty sure it is, actually. Spent a while digging, but all I've been able to find are several instances of 4-out-of-5 sprinkled throughout the mid-to-later 80s, and even in 1991. Not one 5, though. ETA: About this time in '85 tho there was a four-week period just ended where the Top 5 featured not one American.

As some may have noticed, I have set up separate threads for many of the singles charts, each thread contains every chart for the 2014 chart year, tomorrow morning this is where I will post them.
I have one for Hot 100, Streaming and Airplay. Will still do one for Digital songs. That should be it. Bubbling Under, Recurrents and Twitter Tracks have their own threads already. I'll being using those.

music.yahoo.com/blogs/chart-watch/chart-watch-ed-sheeran-week-000011685.html Chart Watch: It’s Ed Sheeran’s WeekBy Paul Grein, Yahoo! Chart Watch Ed Sheeran's "Sing" rebounds from #16 to #13 in its 11th week on the Hot 100, equaling its highest ranking to date. In addition, his "Afire Love" is the week's third highest new entry at #37. Both songs are from his sophomore album, x, which will enter The Billboard 200 at #1 next week with sales in the 180K range. This week's big Hot 100 news is Maroon 5's "Maps" emerging as the week's top new entry at #14.I covered this, and all the top 10 action, in a Chart Watch blog that we posted Wednesday. If you missed it, here's a link. This blog focuses on key movers and debuts below the top 10. "Latch" by Disclosure featuring Sam Smith jumps from #14 to #12 in its 14th week. The song reached #11 on the U.K.'s Official Singles Chart in November 2012 … One Republic's "Love Runs Out" jumps from #30 to #23 in its seventh week. But you know what? It still hasn't overtaken the group's monster hit "Counting Stars," which rebounds from #27 to #22 in its 53rd week. Humungous hits like that are hard to follow. Luke Bryan's "Play It Again" drops from #23 to #25 in its 15th week. It peaked at #14. The song returns to #1 on Hot Country Songs, displacing Florida Georgia Line's "This Is How We Roll," which features Bryan. These two songs have locked up the #1 spot for 15 straight weeks (nine for Bryan, six for the collabo). But Jake Owen's mellow summer song "Beachin'" will probably take the top country spot next week. 5 Seconds of Summer's "Kiss Me Kiss Me" is the week's second highest new entry at #28. Digital sales rank: #7 (135K). It's from the group's eponymous debut album, which is due July 22. Four "Kiss Me" songs have made the top 20: Sixpence None The Richer's "Kiss Me" (#2 in 1999), "Kiss Me Thru The Phone" by Flo Rida featuring Sammie (#3 in 2009), Lita Ford's "Kiss Me Deadly" (#12 in 1988) and Petula Clark's "Kiss Me Goodbye" (#15 in 1968). Charli XCX's "Boom Clap" drops from #29 to #31 in its third week. (A chart blip, no doubt.) Digital sales rank: #10 (97K). The song is featured to great effect in The Fault In Our Stars. It's the musical backdrop to the most joyous scene in a sad (but excellent) movie … "Bailando" by Enrique Iglesias featuring Descemer Bueno & Gente de Zona jumps from #40 to #35 in its eighth week … Wiz Khalifa's "We Dem Boyz" jumps from #62 to #53 in its 10th week … Tiesto's "Wasted" jumps from #76 to #54 in its third week … Becky G's "Shower" leaps from #75 to #55 in its third week … Coldplay's "A Sky Full Of Stars" rebounds from #71 to #56 in its eighth week. The song has climbed as high as #10. "No Mediocre" by T.I. featuring the red-hot Iggy Azalea is the week's fourth-highest new entry at #58. It's from his upcoming ninth studio album, Paperwork: The Motion Picture. (T.I. had a huge album in 2008 titled Paper Trail) … Kenny Chesney's "American Kids" debuts at #82 … "Really Don't Care" by Demi Lovato featuring Cher Lloyd jumps from #92 to #83 in its third week. "Rather Be" by Clean Bandit featuring Jess Glynne jumps from #97 to #86 in its second week. The song topped the Official U.K. Singles Chart for four weeks in February … Jennifer Lopez's stylish "First Love" debuts at #87. It's the second Hot 100 single from her current album A.K.A., which enters The Billboard 200 at #8 this week … Lana Del Rey's "West Coast" re-enters the chart at #100. It has climbed as high as #17. It's from Ultraviolence, which enters The Billboard 200 at #1 this week. Anybody out there want to figure out the last time someone had the #1 album and the #100 single the same week? Happy hunting.

Considering both Ariana and Iggy are getting ready to launch their new singles I think there's a good chance Fancy and Problem will start to slow down. But I think they'll be top 10 all summer.
