www.billboard.com/articles/columns/chart-beat/6150428/trey-songz-scores-second-no-1-album-with-trigga Trey Songz Scores Second No. 1 Album With 'Trigga'By Keith Caulfield, Los Angeles | July 09, 2014 11:00 AM EDT R&B singer Trey Songz secures his second No. 1 album on the Billboard 200, as "Trigga" debuts atop the list. The set, which was released on July 1, sold 105,000 copies in the week ending July 6, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Songz also saw his last album, 2012's "Chapter V," open at No. 1, selling 135,000 in its first week. While "Trigga" does give Songz his second leader, it does so with his smallest opening sales week for a full-length album since 2007's "Trey Day" launched at No. 11 with 73,000. "Trigga's" most recent Billboard Hot 100 hit single, "Na Na," peaked at No. 22 on the chart dated April 26. On Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, it climbed to No. 7 -- his 19th top 10 effort. "Trigga" also happens to be the second No. 1 in-a-row for Atlantic Records, as it follows Ed Sheeran's "x," which debuted in the penthouse a week ago. Sheeran's album slips to No. 2 with 53,000 (down 75 percent). ("Trigga" was released on the Songbook imprint through Atlantic.) Sam Smith's "In the Lonely Hour" falls one rung to No. 3, selling 45,000 (down 33 percent). Rock band Seether claims its fourth top 10 album, as "Isolate and Medicate" bows at No. 4 with a little more than 37,000. The group's last studio release, 2011's "Holding Onto Strings Better Left to Fray," debuted and peaked at No. 2 off a 61,000 start. The "Frozen" soundtrack spends its 28th consecutive week in the top five, as it stays put at No. 5 with 37,000 (down 2 percent). This is also its 30th straight week in the top 10 -- a streak that started on the Dec. 28, 2013-dated chart. New pop/rock band MAGIC! opens at No. 6 with "Don't Kill the Magic," selling just under 36,000. The album is powered by the hit single "Rude," which rose to No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 dated July 12. Miranda Lambert's "Platinum" climbs 8-7 on the new Billboard 200 with 25,000 (down 12 percent) and Lana Del Rey's "Ultraviolence" slides 4-8 with just under 25,000 (down 44 percent). Robin Thicke's "Paula" is the third new entry in the top 10, as it bows at No. 9 with 24,000. It's the R&B singer's fifth top 10 set, but starts far slower than his last album, 2013's "Blurred Lines." That effort was his first No. 1, opening in the top slot with a career-high sales week of 177,000 -- powered by the ubiquitous title track. "Paula," which is titled after Thicke's estranged wife Paula Patton, is Thicke's lowest debut sales week since 2007, when "The Evolution of Robin Thicke" launched with 20,000. Country artist Colt Fold closes out the top 10 with his second top 10 effort, "Thanks for Listening," debuting at No. 10 with 23,000. The genre-bending set is guest-studded (Keith Urban, Lee Brice and Jerrod Niemann, among others, are featured) and follows Ford's 2012 album "Declaration of Independence," which debuted and peaked at No. 5 (31,000 first week). Over on the Digital Songs chart, Sam Smith holds at No. 1 with "Stay With Me," selling 185,000 downloads (down 12 percent). MAGIC!'s "Rude" is also steady at No. 2, with 180,000 (down 15 percent). Iggy Azalea's "Fancy," featuring Charli XCX, rounds out the top three, stationary at No. 3 with 171,000 (down 4 percent). 5 Seconds of Summer's "Amnesia" is the top debut, entering at No. 4 with 162,000. It's the best sales week yet for the band, which has commercially released five songs from its upcoming full-length self-titled debut album (due on July 22). Ariana Grande's "Break Free," featuring Zedd, follows closely behind 5 Seconds of Summer, opening at No. 5 with 161,000. Grande is also at No. 6 with "Problem," featuring Azalea, down two spots with 146,000 (down 4 percent). Nico & Vinz's "Am I Wrong" descends 6-7 with 126,000 (down 14 percent), Jason Derulo's "Wiggle," featuring Snoop Doggy, falls 7-8 with 120,000 (up less than 1 percent) and Maroon 5's "Maps" dips 8-9 with 104,000 (down less than 1 percent). Charli XCX's "Boom Clap" holds at No. 10 with 97,000 (down 3 percent). Overall album sales in this past chart week (ending July 6) totaled 4.25 million units, down 1 percent compared with the sum last week (4.29 million) and down 12 percent compared with the comparable sales week of 2013 (4.86 million). Year to date album sales stand at 125.14 million, down 15 percent compared to the same total at this point last year (146.85 million). Digital track sales this past week totaled 21.30 million downloads, down 1 percent compared with last week (21.48 million) and down 13 percent stacked next to the comparable week of 2013 (24.41 million). Year to date track sales are at 614.85 million, down 13 percent compared to the same total at this point last year (706.60 million). Next week's Billboard 200 competes with the same week in 2013 when: Jay Z's "Magna Carta Holy Grail" debuted at No. 1 with 527,000, while Ciara's self-titled album started at No. 2 with 58,000.

www.hiphopdx.com/index/news/id.29658/title.trey-songz-s-trigga-tops-this-week-s-album-sales-reportTrey Songz's "Trigga" Tops This Week's Album Sales Reportby Andres Tardio posted July 09, 2014 at 11:30AM EST Trey Songz has the #1 album with "Trigga," while Robin Thicke's "Paula" makes a Top 10 debut. This week on the Billboard Top 200, Trey Songz hits #1 with Trigga. Meanwhile, Robin Thicke also has a debut on the charts with Paula, an effort that landed within the week's Top 10. Iggy Azalea also made this list with The New Classic remaining in the Top 20. Trey Songz Pulls Of #1 Album With Trigga Trey Songz earned the #1 spot on the chart this week. The singer sold 104,785 units of Trigga this week, the album’s first week of availability. Trey Songz was recently in the headlines when 50 Cent publicized the fact that he purchased a Best Buy’s supply of Trigga. 50 Cent and Trey Songz have collaborated. The two worked together on "Smoke." Trigga earned a 4 out of 5 X rating in its HipHopDX review. Robin Thicke's Paula Arrives At #9 Robin Thicke's Paula debuted at the #9 spot this week. The singer's effort sold 23,765 units in its first week of availability. The album is said to be a dedication to Paula Patton, a woman Thicke was romantically involved with for years. Recently, Thicke's father, actor Alan Thicke, spoke about the relationship when asked if they are separated for good. "We honestly don't know," Alan Thicke said to E! "I'm sure they don't really know either. Robin's put it all out there. He's put it hard on the table and poured it into his music." Iggy Azalea Remains In Top 20 Iggy Azalea's The New Classic continues to succeed in the Top 20. Iggy sold 14,029 units of her debut album this week, which keeps her on par with last week's 14,087 copies sold. As a result, Iggy Azalea keeps the #19 slot she occupied last week on the chart. The emcee's The New Classic has sold 220,283 units overall. Recently, Azalea has been in the headlines due to a perceived feud with Nicki Minaj. Both rappers have recently denied that a feud exists. "The media puts words in my mouth all the time," Minaj recently said of a beef with Iggy. "This is no different." Hip Hop Album Sales: Week Ending 06/29/2014 #1. MJ's album is faring alright, especially when considering how other big-name albums have been faring. Sure, there has been some discounting, but still.

music.yahoo.com/blogs/chart-watch/chart-watch-trey-songz-beatz-robin-thicke-165823128.htmlChart Watch: Trey Songz Beatz Robin ThickeBy Paul Grein, Yahoo! Chart Watch Trey Songz and Robin Thicke both debuted at #1 on The Billboard 200 with their previous studio albums, Chapter V and Blurred Lines, respectively. If someone had asked you a few months ago which artist would be more likely to debut at #1 again with his follow-up album, you would probably have said Thicke. After all, he’s a bigger celebrity and he was coming off a bigger album. But it didn’t work out that way. Songz lands his second #1 album in a row with Trigga, while Thicke’s Paula debuts way down at #9. Trigga sold 105K copies this week, a moderate drop from the first-week pace of Chapter V, which sold 135K in its first week. Paula sold just 24K copies this week, a huge drop from Blurred Lines, which sold 177K copies in its first week. A key factor here is that Songz’s album has generated a hit single and Thicke’s hasn’t. “Na Na,” the first single from Songz’s new album, reached #22 on the Hot 100. It’s his highest-charting single since “Bottoms Up” (featuring Nicki Minaj) hit #6 in November 2010. “Get Her Back,” the first single from Thicke’s album, finally entered the Hot 100 last week at #82. Paula got off to an even worse start in the U.K. The album, which was named after Thicke’s estranged wife, actress Paula Patton, sold just 530 copies in its first week. It entered the Official U.K. Albums chart at a dismal #200. By contrast, Blurred Lines sold more than 25K copies in its first week in the U.K. and debuted at #1. A specific problem for Thicke is that his contrite manner in recent months is the opposite of the carefree, even cocky, persona he projected on “Blurred Lines,” and especially in the racy video. He may be confusing his fans. Thicke and Patton announced their separation in February. Thicke has made several highly public attempts to win her back, as if driven by the lyric of the 1966 Temptations classic “Ain’t Too Proud To Beg.” Billboard's Richard Smirke noted dryly, “It remains to be seen whether the low sales of Paula will aid or damage his cause.” I explored various other reasons for Thicke’s slower start in a Chart Watch preview that we posted last week. If you missed it, here’s a link. Trivia time: While this is the first top 10 album titled Paula, Paula Abdul landed three top 10 albums (including a pair of #1s) from 1989 to 1991 and Paul & Paula had a top 10 album in 1963 (which included their #1 smash “Hey Paula.”) Songz is just the third male R&B artist to land two #1 albums so far in this decade. He follows Usher (2010’s Raymond V Raymond and 2012’s Looking 4 Myself) and Chris Brown (2011’s F.A.M.E. and 2012’s Fortune). (I’m excluding hip-hop artists.) And Songz just missed having a third #1 in this decade. If his 2010 album Passion, Pain & Pleasure had sold just 2K more copies in its first week, it too would have debuted at #1. Songz deserves to have higher media profile than he does. He’s far bigger than many media people realize. Here’s a little proof: “Na Na,” which reached #7 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, is his 19th top 10 R&B hit. Ed Sheeran's x dips from #1 to #2 in its second week. It had better luck in the U.K., where it holds at #1 for the second week. Seether's sixth studio album, Isolate & Medicate, debuts at #4. It’s the rock/metal band’s second top five album in a row. Holding Onto Strings Better Left To Fray reached #2 in May 2011. The Frozen soundtrack holds at #5 for the second week. This is the album’s 28th week in the top five. That’s the longest run in the top five for a soundtrack from a theatrically-released movie since Whitney Houston's The Bodyguard logged 30 weeks in the top five in 1992-1993. It’s #1 on Top Soundtracks for the 32nd week. MAGIC!'s debut album, Don’t Kill The Magic!, debuts at #6. The album includes the charming hit single “Rude,” which jumped from #3 to #2 on last week’s Hot 100. Miranda Lambert’s Platinum rebounds from #8 to #7. It’s in its fourth week at #1 on Top Country Albums. It’s the first album by a female artist to top the country chart for four or more weeks since Taylor Swift's Red logged 16 weeks on top in late 2012 and early 2013. Colt Ford’s fifth studio album,Thanks For Listening, debuts at #10. It’s his second top 10 album in a row. Declaration Of Independence reached #5 in 2012. Keith Urban, Lee Brice and Jerrod Niemann are among the guests on the album. Sam Smith’s "Stay With Me" holds at #1 on Hot Digital Songs for the second week (185K). MAGIC!'s “Rude” holds at #2 for the second week (180K). Will either of these songs knock “Fancy” by Iggy Azalea featuring Charli XCX from the #1 spot on the Hot 100? You’ll find out later today when we post the first of two Chart Watch Songs blogs. Here’s a recap of this week’s top 10 albums. The Top Five: Trey Songz's Trigga debuts at #1 (105K). It’s his fourth top five album … Ed Sheeran's x dips from #1 to #2 in its second week (53K) … Sam Smith's In The Lonely Hour dips from #2 to #3 in its third week. It has been in the top five the entire time (45K) … Seether's Isolate & Medicate debuts at #4 (37K). It’s the band’s fourth top 10 album … The Frozen soundtrack holds at #5 for the second week in its 32nd week (37K). This is its 30th week in the top 10. The Second Five: MAGIC!'s Don’t Kill The Magic! debuts at #6 (36K). It’s the band’s first top 10 album … Miranda Lambert’s Platinum rebounds from #8 to #7 in its fifth week (25K). It has been in the top 10 the entire time … Lana Del Rey's Ultraviolence drops from #4 to #8 in its third week (25K). It has been in the top 10 the entire time … Robin Thicke's Paula debuts at #9 (24K). It’s his fifth top 10 album … Colt Ford’s Thanks For Listening debuts at #10 (23K). It’s his second top 10 album. Five albums drop out of the top 10 this week: G-Eazy’s These Things Happen, Mastodon’s Once More ‘Round The Sun, Phish’s Fuego, Linkin Park’sThe Hunting Party and Now 50. Coming Attractions: Look for Sia’s 1,000 Forms Of Fear to be next week’s top new entry, with sales in the 50K range. The bad news: That modest total may be enough to make it #1. Its chief rivals appear to be Frozen (which could return to #1 for a 14th week on top) and Sam Smith's In The Lonely Hour (which could finally move up to #1 for the first time). In any event, next week we’ll probably see the lowest weekly sales tally for a #1 album since July 2012, when Zac Brown Band's Uncaged returned to #1 with sales of 48K. Also due: Judas Priest's Redeemer Of Souls, Neil Diamond's All-Time Greatest Hits, Martin Garrix’s Gold Skies, Chicago's Now (Chicago XXXVI), Dirty Heads's Sound Of Change and Leela James's Fall For You.

MJ's album is faring alright, especially when considering how other big-name albums have been faring. Sure, there has been some discounting, but still. If you have the Cartwheel APP by Target, you can get the new album for an additional 25% off. There are plenty more, but that's a nice discount.

Bad Blood by Bastille selling enough to be certified gold despite peaking at #11 on chart means that sometimes the peak position is not everything.
Wish they would get a second hit from the album though.

Robin Thicke apparently only sold 550 copies in Canada with his album. I'm curious to know where that places him on the album chart.

www.billboard.com/biz/articles/news/chart-alert/6157430/chart-moves-pink-floyds-division-returns-voice-winners-low Chart Moves: Pink Floyd's 'Division' Returns, 'Voice' Winner's Low Debut, 'Frozen's' 30th Straight Week in Top 10By Keith Caulfield, Los Angeles | July 11, 2014 This week on the Billboard 200 albums chart, Trey Songz claimed his second No. 1 with the chart-topping arrival of "Trigga." The album sold 105,000 copies in the week ending July 6, according to Nielsen SoundScan. It was one of five debuts in the top 10, joined by Seether's "Isolate and Medicate" (No. 4), MAGIC!'s "Don't Kill the Magic" (No. 6), Robin Thicke's "Paula" (No. 9) and Colt Ford's "Thanks For Listening" (No. 10). There's a full 200 albums on the chart, so let's take a look at some of the list's other movers and shakers: -- Soundtrack, "Frozen" - No. 5 - The smash Disney movie soundtrack spends its 28th straight week in the top five, and 30th consecutive frame in the top 10. The last album to spend more weeks stuck in the top five was Adele's "21," which had two lengthy consecutive runs in the region. It spent 68 weeks in the top five in total, separated by two runs of 39 and 29 straight weeks (between March 12, 2011 - Dec. 3, 2011 and Dec. 17, 2011 - June 30, 2012, respectively). The last soundtrack to spend as many weeks in the top five was the Whitney Houston-led "The Bodyguard" soundtrack. It spent 31 weeks in total in the top five, with 30 of those consecutive between 1992 and 1993. (Its 31st week in the top five came following Houston's death in 2012.) With regards to "Frozen's" long run in the top 10 -- 30 weeks and counting -- again, Adele's "21" was the last album to notch as many weeks in the region. "21" spent a total of 81 weeks in the top 10, with 78 of those consecutive between 2011 and 2012. (The last soundtrack to spend 30 straight weeks in the top five was "The Bodyguard," which tallied exactly 32 frames between Dec. 5, 1992 and July 10, 1993. In total, "The Bodyguard" spent 42 weeks in the top 10.) -- Jenni Rivera, "1969 - Siempre: En Vivo Desde Monterrey -- Parte 2" - No. 27 - In total, the late Latin diva has charted 11 albums on the Billboard 200. Of those, seven of those debuted on the chart following her death in December of 2012. Over on the Regional Mexican Albums chart, "Simpre, Parte 2" is Rivera's seventh No. 1 -- tying her with Selena for the most No. 1s among female artists. -- Tessanne Chin, "Count On My Love" - No. 41 - The most recent winner of "The Voice" sees her post-show album debut with 7,000 copies. This is the lowest sales debut for a "Voice" winner thus far, dipping below the 10,000 bow of first season champ Javier Colon's "Come Through For You" in 2011. (Colon's album, however, peaked at No. 134 from that sales figure -- as it was released during the competitive holiday season when sales are generally higher.) Chin was crowned the winner of the fifth season of NBC's "The Voice" on Dec. 17, 2013. Second season winner Jermaine Paul has yet to release an album, while third season winner Cassadee Pope saw her "Frame by Frame" album bow at No. 9 with 43,000. Danielle Bradbery, who won the fourth season, debuted and peaked at No. 19 in 2013 with her self-titled debut, selling 41,000 in its first week. -- Soundtrack, "Begin Again" - No. 44 - The star-studded soundtrack debuts with 44,000 and boasts the film's stars Keira Knightly, Adam Levine and Cee-Lo. Over on the Soundtracks chart, it enters at No. 4. -- Pink Floyd, "The Division Bell" - No. 60 - The rock act's 1994 album returns to the chart at No. 60 (5,000 sold; up 1,903 percent) thanks to a deluxe reissue. The album has been off the chart since 1995, after debuting at No. 1 on the chart dated April 23, 1994. It spent four weeks atop the list -- the second-longest run at No. 1 for the band. Of their five No. 1 albums, only "The Wall" ruled longer, with 15 weeks at No. 1. -- Bon Jovi, "New Jersey" - No. 73 - Another rock album, of a slightly different vintage, returns to the list thanks to a deluxe reissue. Thirteen steps behind the return of Pink Floyd's "The Division Bell" we find Bon Jovi's "New Jersey," stepping back in at No. 73 with 4,000 (up 3,420 percent). Re-issued with oodles of bonus tracks, the former No. 1 album jumps back onto the tally for the first time since 1990.
